Ahead of Guitar Hero: On Tour's release later this month, Nintendo has confirmed plans to release a new DS bundled with the portable rhythm game. First revealed in May by Activision publishing boss Mike Griffith last month, and later spotted where a kid can be a kid, the bundle is set for release on June 22 alongside the game, rather than a week later as previously reported.
An official price for the package, which will include a new black and silver DS Lite branded with the Guitar Hero logo, has not yet been announced. However, Toys 'R' Us earlier listed the bundle for $179.99 (a listing that has since been removed), giving rockers on the go an idea of how much to scrape together before going on tour.

An interesting color. Unfortunately there is a logo on there that is just about as ugly as sin.
Still, I'm all for Nintendo releasing more colors, branded or not. Portables don't last forever, at least in great condition. So it's nice that when the time comes to replace it, I can spice things up with a new color scheme.

The two screens combined are about the same size of a PSP screen.

Two things:
1) I've been reading and posting on Joystiq for probably 4 years and this is the first response I've gotten from the legendary/infamous Fernando Rocker. I'm not sure if I should be flattered or insulted :-P
2) Compared to the PSP, yes the sizes are comparable. However, I was making the comparison to TVs where people usually play Guitar Hero. The DS/PSP screens are much smaller than even a small sized TV.

Lol. Yeah, I wouldn't want to play it on a PSP either. Besides, other than the touch screen (and myabe the phenomenal battery life,) the DS's technology really isn't its strong point...the games are. PSP, on the other hand, is the exact opposite.

Well, I wish I could really say something but here is my problem and why I cannot comment from a frankly hypocritical stance.
I play DJ Max Portable. Like, a lot. My obsession with the game is beyond all compare because it literally is a portable Beatmania with much better gameplay, better music, more gradual learning curve, and in essence one of the best games to ever come from Korea. But I don't have to add bulk to PSP to play it. So in that regard, I can see the appeal of a portable guitar hero.
However, his holds zero interest from me and I'm going to be honest, I'm more interested in the Looney Tunes EBA clone than GH.

Because your previous comments indicate a brand loyalty that often extends beyond the boundaries of normal human logic and FAR beyond the bounds of the software support and level of customer satisfaction offered by your brand of choice.

Are people really going to buy this bundle? It just looks unpleasing to me and after seeing that commercial that Joystiq had (aired or not) this game has been ruined

I would buy it just for the color and peel off the sticker if I didn't already own a DS.
The Grey/Black thing is just sexy. Reminds me of my good old DS Phattie on my desk. If they come with a bundleless version, I might have to pick up a new DS. It's about time I upgraded anyway.

I just checked a box in from UPS at my Wal-Mart today and I remember the price on the invoice said $169.99. But Wal-Mart is infamous for sticker price and actual price differences.

I just don't get this...
Guitar Hero on the DS doesn't make sense.
How hard is it to tap little coloured buttons with a lil pen on a 2 inch screen?
Playing songs using a controller Guitar, rather than actually learning a real guitar is one thing. No one can deny the awesomeness of using little effort to become a Rock God is friggen awesome.
But when it gets to the point we can tap little sequenced bleeps using a pen to get the ultimate lifestyle of Drugs Booze and Chicks... well... thats going a bit too far.
