Analyst: PS3 will keep outpacing Xbox 360, MS may announce price drop at E3
Although the information isn't as solid as if 30 Helens agreed, EEDAR analyst Jesse Divnich believes the PS3 is going to keep increasing its sales and that Microsoft will announce a price cut for the Xbox 360 at E3. He foresees the PS3 gaining momentum and claims Metal Gear Solid 4 will actually have a greater impact on the console's hardware sales than Grand Theft Auto IV did.
Divnich also believes that Microsoft will announce a price cut at E3 next month, speculating the console could also get a new hardware SKU with added features. He claims if Microsoft does cut the price, Sony will respond with a drop of its own within two months. We're currently gathering up 30 Helens to see what they think.

OH REALLY?
I swear the prediction was the same last year.
Fucking analysts. I hoe they don't get much money for this crap.
why not the LS2LS7? @ Jun 13th 2008 10:15AM
Didn't MS cut the price of the 360 last year?
But I do agree, these analysts are just guessing, and often they guess worse than even a hardcore game who is paying attention would.
Kizzle @ Jun 13th 2008 10:17AM
What really makes me laugh is people like Michael Pachter winning awards for their analysis of the game industry. Are you fucking kidding me? Half the people who comment on this site could make predictions as accurate (or MORE accurate) than him.
Only difference between Pachter and HAloKiLlaz666 when it comes to analyzing the game industry is Pachter sits behind a desk rather than behind a coffee table with a bong on it.
Solid Chief @ Jun 13th 2008 10:17AM
They did do a price drop...But after E3 (not announced their either, but of course the analysts kept guessing).
Don't prove me wrong with factual sources though! =)

It's also pretty fun having games to play Co. So when's the next batch of rehashes due?
Co @ Jun 13th 2008 10:49AM
Right on time with the next batch of FPSs for your 360. We can go all day 87.
tmacairjordan87 @ Jun 13th 2008 10:51AM
Yeah forget about the 4 jrpgs just announced for 360. Face it, the NDF is so short on games now they're reaching far out there and praying on generic games like the Conduit so they can say well...we have like 3 good non nintendo games now.

You know what's really funny? The Pachter hate. It amuses me immensely.
Michael Pachter is not a gaming fucktard. What he IS is an analyst who has access to information you WISH you had. Likewise, his job is to look at "sure bets" and such by gauging public reaction to announced titles. His JOB is to make predictions which will help investers interested in getting in on the gaming market. Plain and simple, his predictions are NOT for you. He looks at the business side of things, not the "OMFG, TeH HaloZ" side of things. And frankly, Pachter has the highest accuracy rating of the analysts. Most analysts are considered performers if they accomplish a 10% accuracy rating. He has 33%. And you, as gamers, are privelaged to a very small portion of his predictions. And the man must be good since his annual salary is the high six figure income.
But since you guys are all "in the know" about this shit, I guess you already KNEW that.

The upcoming lineup of games for the Wii is very good:
Tales of Symphonia, Fragile: Farewell Ruins of the Moon (by tri-Cresendo btw), Samba de Amigo, Mushroom Men, Project O, Spore, Sky Crawlers, Shiren the Wanderer, Monster Hunter 3, MadWorld, The Conduit, Super Mario Sluggers, Wario Land, DeBlob, Deadly Creature, Fatal Frame IV, Tenchu IV, Sonin Unleased, Spyborgs, Samn and Max and a lot more...
Besides the Factor 5 game, the Nintendo unanounced games, the Retro games.
And don't forget WiiWare titles too: World of Goo, Eternityhs Child, Animales de la Meurte, Gyrostarr, Stron Bad.
And the Wii has excellent titles right now, at least better reviewed games than the PS3. And you complain about the lack of good Wii games, but for every good PS3 game, there is a good Wii title.

Excuse PS360 for not caving into releasing shovelware party games and focusing on new IP's that push videogames forward instead of going downhill with its bland PS2/Gamecube grafix. SPOGS racer anyone? LMAO!!!
Kizzle @ Jun 13th 2008 11:15AM
Since Sir Fidlious Wong is so easily amused, let's look at his heartfelt diatribe in defense of his close, personal friend Michael Pachter:
"Michael Pachter is not a gaming fucktard."
He's even better - he's a GLORIFIED "gaming fucktard" masquerading as a suit-and-tie.
"What he IS is an analyst who has access to information you WISH you had."
Then I wish he'd start making better use of it, since he is wrong much more often than right (even by the numbers you provide later on). You must not pay attention to comments sections of sites like this too often - odd, since you post here relentlessly. Pachter "makes predictions" that are talked about weeks/months in advance on sites like this.
"Likewise, his job is to look at "sure bets" and such by gauging public reaction to announced titles."
So basically, by your definition, his job is something half the people who read this site could do. Thanks for proving my point.
"His JOB is to make predictions which will help investers interested in getting in on the gaming market. Plain and simple, his predictions are NOT for you."
For christsake, I never said they were. I'm saying that this guy has one of the sweetest deals going, he gets paid big bucks to make a "professionally-presented" version of what most of us are aware of either at the same time as or long before him.
"And frankly, Pachter has the highest accuracy rating of the analysts. Most analysts are considered performers if they accomplish a 10% accuracy rating. He has 33%."
So he's basically the best weatherman.
No, wait. Being a weatherman is harder - it's pretty simple to figure out the upcoming trends in the game industry if you don't have your head in the sand.
"And you, as gamers, are privelaged to a very small portion of his predictions."
LOL at "privileged" (or "privelaged," as you say). I couldn't care less if coverage of his "expert analysis" disappeared tomorrow. I'd be able to read the same thing, sooner, and probably in a more amusing format, on sites like this, Kotaku, Destructoid, et al.
"And the man must be good since his annual salary is the high six figure income."
Oh, obviously. Clearly, salary dictates performance/skill at every job. Ever. In history.

How does me saying the screens look good, but I can't get past dual analog set ups for FPS games equate??

What's funny is that the article doesn't really care about the Wii all that much, but tmacairwhatever decides to rag on it for no reason whatsoever. Me thinks someone's a bit insecure with their decisions.

Must I reply today? Awww, but I have sooo many long lats to enter into the database. Oh well... if I must (because 4myfriends seems to believe I was soo pwnd hard that I have to respond). For sake of space, I'll respond to each section with labels...
-Glorified gaming fucktard: Nope. You see, he has no vested interest in which one wins or loses. He sees Haze's bad scores as a hit Ubisoft now has to take and how it will effect Free Radical as a company rather than a sign of PS3's utter failure. In other words, he's a business man who could give a shit whether Madden is good or bad, so long as it sells. So no, he's not a gaming fucktard.
-Something half the people could do: Really? You could take a look at how asset creation as an outsourcing model effects the cost of development versus the advantage of having exclusive right to those assets? And I'm sure you know exactly how much Midway pays the guy who organizes the outsourcing contracts as well? Nope, you don't. The people who look around here don't. When the fiscal reports come out, what makes the news on these sites? Is it cost incurred versus profits made with analysis on how they improve? Nope, it's when games are announced or delayed and rough percentages. If you want to have a debate with someone about a book, you have to move beyond the cliffnotes. Tht is what Pachter does. He reads the book, you guys debate the cliffnotes.
"professionally presented" version- Well, here is the difference. While only one or two of his comments make the blogs a week, he's making literally hundreds of decisions and making companies millions in investments. He has to predict how good Madden 2010 will do or if Mirror's Edge will be another Bioshock or an Okami. He has to make these predictions far out. And what we are privelage to is the low level shit, facing facts. Otherwise his job as a consultant would be in jeopardy if he basically shared his portfolio plans and strategies with the internet as a whole. So essentially he IS like a weatherman. But he's a weatherman who works hard and his predictions are a commodity, not a time filler.
The value of his comments- He is mentioned because he's important to the industry. Yes, we could get the outside view of Joystiq, Destructoid, etc. But we wouldn't get this information based on retail reports. His PS3 predictions were usually accurate and stem not from an increase in interest to the system but the limited stock available to retail shelves.
As I said before, not defending him, just getting tired of every analyst thread turns into a "fuck Pachter" tirade when in reality, most of the people making these predictions on this blog would be thoroughly disinterested in shifting through the raw data needed to makes those predictions. After all, EVERYONE thought GTAIV would be a massive boon to both 360 and PS3 hardware numbers. Everyone was wrong.

why not the LS2LS7? @ Jun 13th 2008 10:14AM
I think PS3 will top the 360 in the US for the next couple months, seeing as it did last month and MGS3 will certainly lead to one or two more.
But it's tough to predict farther than that in the US.
I don't think MS will concentrate on expanding the feature set of 360, I think they'll concentrate on reducing the cost, and hopefully make a slim (which reduces shipping costs BTW).
The PS3 is catching up to the 360 in Europe, it looks like by the end of the year the PS3 will have a larger installed base than 360 in 2 of the big 3 markets. Sony should be happy with that, cause beating out the 360 on unit sales in the US seems unlikely now.
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread) @ Jun 13th 2008 10:22AM
yea i think your spot on. PS3 is a lot closer in Japan and Europe but i doubt it can catch the 360 in the US. they'll probably just go price drop for price drop back and forth for the rest of the generation.
i think Sony should be very pleased with all this considering the dismal failure the PS3 was shaping up to be, they pulled a complete turn around. now if they could just get their damn big name games out that i've been waiting forever for.
Kizzle @ Jun 13th 2008 10:17AM
MS is always rumored by "analysts" to have a price drop right around the corner...I guess eventually they'll be right if they keep saying it, right?
The 360 should have price-dropped a year ago...and I don't mean that sissy $20 drop or whatever it was. They were arrogant and sloppy, now they're paying for it.
...which sucks, because despite that I have no desire to own a PS3 - I just want the system I own to stop dropping the ball. My interest in the 360 is fading quickly.

Shimrra @ Jun 13th 2008 10:16AM
Does it really matter anymore? 360 has done what it wanted to achieve and that is to make a stronger mark in the game console market. PS3 technically is a more powerful system it just lacks more unique gaming experiences backed up by a strong position with online multiplayer community. As a gamer does it really matter what analysts have to say? Does what an analysts prediction play a huge role to that kid or adult in the game store that is looking to buy a new system? Analysts are just like game reviewers where its all about personal opinion and just assumption that what they think is the next big thing.
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread) @ Jun 13th 2008 10:28AM
i think your right in some regards but analyst do have the added perk of being able to look at buying trends and such to make semi-educated predictions. but either way, they are just predictions. a review is completely an opinion.
but all in all, it really wont mean much to the gamer per say, except for flame fuel. on the other hand, it is nice to think that my console of choice is poised to do better especially considering that game developers are probably looking at the same predictions to decide to make new games or not.
why not the LS2LS7? @ Jun 13th 2008 10:39AM
I don't get the obsession over sales and who is beating who anyway. I can enjoy something even if it isn't the most popular thing.
The only thing I can see where sales matter is hardware sales have to be at some minimum level to ensure the platform remains viable. Well, with the PS3 now getting its head above water, all 3 platforms are viable in the US and so there's not a whole lot of point arguing about console sales anymore.
Excitement over game sales baffle me even more. Unless you're getting a cut, why do you care whether your favorite game is the biggest seller?
Co @ Jun 13th 2008 10:47AM
"I don't get the obsession over sales and who is beating who anyway. I can enjoy something even if it isn't the most popular thing."
While I agree with you on enjoying something even though it's not the most popular, not being the market leader really doesn't assist in my enjoyment of that console. See the Gamecube and it's owners last generation, we'll tell ya.
Vcize @ Jun 13th 2008 10:57AM
"I don't get the obsession over sales and who is beating who anyway. I can enjoy something even if it isn't the most popular thing."
Indeed. And thank goodness I don't get stuck on what's the most popular or else I'd be stuck watching American Idol and Precudural Crime Drama #84 instead of Firefly and Lost.
Come to think of it, I don't think my preferred console has EVER been the most popular (well, unless you count the NES but it didn't really have any direct competition).
kataztrophy @ Jun 13th 2008 1:08PM
analysts are just fanboys that get paid for starting rumors. So no, it doesn't really matter.
BlackFreefall @ Jun 13th 2008 10:20AM
MGS4 is definitely spikings the sales up for PS3 but is really hard to tell for how long.
The console sales for this fall should be very interesting as both MS and Sony are bringing thier guns to the console fight. (GoW2 and R2)
Korova *Pyro aspect* @ Jun 13th 2008 12:13PM
Its not MGS4, its the $100gc price drop by Walmart. But on a page in July, it will look like MGS4 did it.
Maybe an ignorant developer somewhere will fall for the bait, but they will be wrong. Otherwise, 5cent a disk royalties from BD are coming - oohhh-hooo, break out the bottled water, lets celebrate.
rc @ Jun 13th 2008 10:21AM
I would guess the PS3 will outsell the 360 in every world market, pretty much from now on. But the one poster is correct. The 360 has established a strong base, has good game sales and is actually making money for MS now. All three companies are gonna do well this time. It would be great if we could just lose the fanboy stuff and enjoy and talk about games.
