Just in case you hadn't heard via, oh, every manner of media possible, British rockers Coldplay will have a new album, Viva la Vida, on shelves (and your favorite music download service) June 17. Today Activision announced that a dose of Coldplay DLC will hit Guitar Hero III two days later on June 19.
The Coldplay track pack will contain three songs, including "Violet Hill," the first single from Viva la Vida. "Yellow" and "God Put a Smile on Your Face" from the album A Rush of Blood to the Head round out the set. Activision has yet to price the goods, but three-song packs have historically run 500 MS points via Xbox Live and $6.25 on PSN.
[update: Activision sends along confirmation that the Coldplay track pack will, in fact, set you back 500 MS points or $6.25 on XBL and PSN, respectively.]

Why Guitar Hero? Don't the record label execs see the sales of Rock Band DLC?

That's what I'm saying! GH comes out with better songs than RB. RB picks a good artist and doesn't choose the best song from that artist. Maybe with GH IV coming, they'll feel the pressure and get better songs for their DLC.

Umm, excuse me but Yellow was from Parachutes, NOT A Rush of Blood to the Head.

Oh noes, I'll have to get up and switch disks! What a minor inconvinence!
Like, really, it wouldn't be possible to have GH3 DLC on Aerosmith. First off, they are usining a tweaked Engine for Aerosmith, and even if they weren't, they would have to re-program all the mo-cap, animations, light effects, crowd effects and sound effects for the song, not to mention in GH: A there are 5 band members now (6 when you play Walk this Way), so that would make it less compatable to be sure...
Basically, it isn't possible to begin with. Also, with this in mind, it's gonna be bloddy hard for EA and Harmonix to get the RB DLC compatable with RB2. They would have to do everything I just said above and a huge scale, and if they want to tweak the engine (something I suggest they should, vocals work like crap), then it throws it out the window totally.

I can't speak for the PS360 versions, but the PS2 versions of GH take so long to load after you insert the disk - memory card check, memory card load, about 3 intro movies, then select multiplayer, etc etc
I have friends over to play and we just never switch disks.

Actually, I would never bother switching disks. I was just making fun of GH's bad implementation of pretty much everything since Harmonix left. I bet it sucks working at a company where the smartest 90% just left you holding the bag and developed a superior competitor.

I don't get it. GH adds some weird songs. I can get that they are trying to rope different listeners but who at Harmonix dropped the ball on coldplay? Thats a perfect group to be used on RB.

Agreed.
I don't think the mellow style of Coldplay really fits the hardcore image Activision has given GH3. Who knows, though, they'll probably figure out some way to put a section of lightning fast repeating triplets or fast scales in one of those songs on expert. Hooray for adding notes that aren't there.

BULLSHIT!!!! why can't GH bring these songs on the original game instead of an add on??? i wanna play these colplay songs (among others if they were available) but i got a PS2 and no online connection, FUCKEN SHIT!!!!! GH has screwed me over once again, at least Rock Band is comin out wit a CD and a selective few hits that were add ons.

I'm still hopeful that they'll be the featured act in the soon-to-be-released Not Having Any Balls Hero.

I've got nothing against Coldplay (I'm actually quite fond of them), but that doesn't mean that these make good GHIII (or even Rock Band) songs. They're too repetitive and don't really have any wicked solos. I personally think they're great songs, but I wouldn't want to play them.

How come two of my favorite bands, Muse and Coldplay, have track packs come out ON THE WRONG GAME? Come on, Harmonix, get these awesome vocals/drumming songs onto your game.
