Wow... looking nice. Now we need a Final Fantasy VI for next year.

The voice acting, specially from Cecil, sounds very good.

This is a better example of the voice acting. It's actually pretty good.

I guess you like FF then right buddy? Not enough to get a PS3 though huh. I hope this new one coming out is as good or better than FF7 or 10. Those were my favorites.

10 was one of your favorites? I can't say I've heard that very often.

Man, my favorite JRPG has gotten some wonderful service, July 22nd is still too far off for my tastes though.

Yup, FFX was one of my favorites. Only reason I bought it is because of other friends who bought it also who had nothing but good things to say. Other than those none have grabbed my attn. I just thought it was all around great. Characters, story, music. All of it. That, and I was in a game drought at the time.

FFX was alright (except for that awful voice acting), but IV and VI are the best in the series. IX and XI are the only ones I've never been able to stay interested in (haven't played XII yet).

That comment was uncalled for.

There's a difference between looking forward to a remake of an old game you know to be good, and liking the newer shitpiles that the FF series became with FFX. God that game was fucking awful. Same with FFXII. I don't trust them with XIII anymore. At least with this remake you know the core game structure is still gonna be there. Unless they're going to fuck that up too.

July 22nd can't come fast enough. At least I have The World Ends With You to keep me occupied until then.

I couldn't agree more. I haven't looked this forward to a game in a very long time. Seeing a proper update to one of the most beautiful games I've ever played makes my heart sing.

I might actually get this one since I hear the story is decent. Then again I heard FFVI was the opus of the series and I got bored by that one about halfway through...

Wow, I just got a rush of nostalgia listening to the music. FFII was one of my favorite games as a younger lad...

Because they're doing a new translation, I'm worried that they will change that line. I don't remember seeing it in the GBA port of IV

It was in the GBA remake and it will be in the DS remake.

They learned their lesson after the epic shitstorm over changing "son of a submariner" in the FFVI remake.

It certainly looks impressive. I came fairly late to the Final Fantasy series and really only started playing after VII. Can anyone comment in regards to the story within the earlier iterations? I always thought (and was perhaps under the incorrect belief) that FFVII was the point where story started bearing a central role. Am I wrong?

The story in IV is decent, but it's nothing that will blow your mind.

VI is where the story lines really came to bloom, with multi branching plot lines, and a multitude of characters.

Oh dude. You need to play VI.

It's in my opinion the best in the series. IV is my second favorite.

Story and characters are great in VI.

IV is actually where the FF series really starts to focus on the story. The story isn't as crazy and convoluted as the later FF games, but it still is interesting. It's got a pretty good story for a 16 bit game.

It was actually FFIV that really brought the story to the forefront of the game. Right behind FFVI, FFIV is my favorite 2D FF. Man this remake is looking FANTASTIC. I am really happy they are keeping the old difficulty as well.

Yeah, I'm another fan of FFX. I think what I appreciated most was that the combat had some strategic depth from the beginning, instead of making you endure hours of attack-attack-attack before things got interesting. For me, mechanics generally trump story, so I was completely willing to overlook the cheesy voice acting in order to have a better combat experience.

How about the fact that they reduced the game to a simplistic bunch of levels (towns literally had a front and a back entrance?), imprisoning you in a single, straight path? Did you like that? FFX was the single worst FF I've ever played simply because of the fact they might as well have made it on-rails like Killer7, and it would've been the same game. It was limited, claustrophobic, boring. They neutered the game world to absolutely nothing, thereby making it feel like they were just aiming the game at giggling fucking high school girls who love girly looking guys, sappy romance and pretty colorful fashionable outfit designs, yet cannot be bothered actually navigating an interesting world, let alone appreciate the exploration element.

I know I'm hammering on this a lot, but let me restate myself once more: FFX MURDERED the series and everything that was good about it, and it MURDERED the genre because developers now think it's ok to string a few cutscenes together with three dungeons in a straight line to mindlessly run through, and some battles inbetween, and call that a game. Have I made myself clear? Good.

The good thing about FF4's storyline is that it's just so lovely. Like kittens, only kittens that could turn themselves into stone to stop the onset of shrinking walls that could kill you, and can't be cured back because it was their own free will to be turned into stone.

I'll try out this game, I'm always open. But Final Fantasy 3 sucked hard, so I'm already prepared to be disappointed.

Auto-battle! Sweet. Now I can go through the story without all the annoying and pointless battles getting in the way.

I've tried playing FF6 about 3 times now (GBA version) and I love the characters and the art style, and the story seems interesting... but the battles seem purely designed to annoy you as much as possible. If only there was a way to get rid of all the random battles, and replace all the other battles with math puzzles.

FF6-Brain-Training would rock.
