WRUP: The Inaugural Edition

To celebrate the first-ever Joystiq WRUP (or "What Are You Playing"), we've all pulled out our dusty old 3DO consoles that none of us regret purchasing, given there's nothing else that really came out this week worth playing. Well, except maybe Metal Gear Solid 4. And Dolphin Olympics 2. And ... anything else. Here's what we'll be playing this weekend, be sure to let us know what games will be occupying your time this weekend.

Alexander Sliwinski: I will be hunkering down with some Sins of a Solar Empire. I'm also going to test the Civilization Revolution demo a little more, which will get me itching to play some Civ IV, so then I'll probably do that.
Andrew Yoon: Depending on how devastated I am by tonight's Battlestar Galactica finale, I'll be playing Metal Gear Solid 4 (PS3). For my multiplayer fix, I'll be back in Team Fortress 2 (Xbox 360) and Grand Theft Auto IV (Xbox 360).
Chris Grant: Unfortunately my $20 bid for BenHeck's portable PlayStation 3 wasn't a winner, so that means trying to cram the entire epic Metal Gear Solid finale into one hurried weekend before heading out to LA next week for some pre-E3 stuff. Go!
James Ransom-Wiley: My folks are in town for the weekend, but I'll be "sneaking in" some MGS4. Unfortunately, the PS3 (and everything else I hold dear) is in the all-purpose office / entertainment / guest room. No place to hide!
Jason Dobson: MGS is good and all, but right now I am neck deep in GRID, which honestly is the effing gold standard for quasi-realistic racers. I expected as much given the majesty that was/is DiRT.
Justin McElroy: Dolphin Olympics 2, obviously. ... What's that? There are other games? I wasn't aware.
Kyle Orland: My word processor. I've been stealing some moments with Trackmania United, actually, since Joystiq featured a post on it being free. Very frustrating, but the feeling when you actually win a race is the best.
Ludwig Kietzmann: I'll be playing Metal Gear Solid 4, mostly because I enjoy bowling people over with oil barrels. And, should I get too happy, I'll just play some Ninja Gaiden 2 to remind how disappointing a sequel can really be. I suppose I have to find time for GRID as well (hint: it's excellent!).
Randy Nelson: It's been a pretty slow couple of months for new releases, so I figured I'd check out this little indie deal called Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. I've heard some good things about it. Once I've watched ... er, beaten that, it's back to that Saint's Row wannabe, GTA 4. If I get a chance, I really want to sit down and get with the silly in the Spore Creature Creator. Sporky needs a friend.
Ross Miller: Given my new addiction, probably Metal Gear Solid 4 until my eyes bleed. Then Spore while I let them heal. I'm also thinking I'll bring Wii Fit and Rock Band home to my family to play on Father's Day.
Scott Jon Siegel: Super Mario Galaxy, in the capacity of star-bit collector. Also, hopefully Key Largo and Risk.

I'll be hitting Okami pretty heavy this weekend, I just met with Queen Himiko, and now i'm exploring North Ryoshima coast to hunt down the people necessary to calm the Water Dragon

In between, little bits of Radiant Dawn, Brawl, and possibly minutes-long sessions of Wrecking Crew

Well, I'll be finishing Ninja Gaiden 2 tonight. Almost there, but damn is Dagra Dai a bitch.

Then after that I'll probably move to Orange Box. Finally picked it up yesterday for $40 at Wal*Mart and am really looking forward to TF2, from what I've heard, the online community is leaps and bounds above that of Halo 3. Or I could go for the 100% in GTA first, all I have left is those pigeons. Hmmm, decisions, decisions ...

I'll be playing some Eternal Sonata early in the morningins, and then once my friends wake up(lazy slackers!) I'll hop on to COD4.

I might even get some Okami in if the mood strikes me.

(No MGS4 for me, I can't replace my PS3 untill all the newborn baby stuff is paid for and out of the way)

we do. it's the "mid-season" finale. The rest of the season won't air until 2009.

I've taken a hiatus from the Xbox 360 and the stack of unfinished games I have for it because I recently got re-hooked into playing World of Warcraft after I picked up the Burning Crusade. I swore it off before that expansion came out and I was dumb enough to buy it a couple of weeks ago. I'll be running my Troll Rogue up through his twenties all weekend.

Weird, Early in the morning I was reading an article about the 3DO and Alone in the Dark.

I have a ton of work today but if I have time I guess I'll play Metal Gear Solid 1 or Grand theft Auto 4 in the night.

This Sunday I'll be in a business trip so I guess Contra 4 and Super Mario bros 3 advance or maybe Yu-gi-oh Tag Force 2, Killzone Liberation or Megaman Powered up depending in which handheld I decide to bring with me.

It's surprising where some great franchises originated. Alone in the Dark came from the 3DO, and Rayman started on the Jaguar, about a year before it wound up on other consoles

they're missing the giraffe. i didn't go out this week so i'm thinking about ordering MGS4. i got my eye on the LE but funds are tight and only getting tighter. you'd think sobriety would make decisions easier.

Yup I'm playing MGS4 it's ok not great. It feels like a breed between Metal Gear-and-Call Of Duty meets a stupider story line from a Japanese-Pose-for-the-Camera after-every-badass-move against-an-enemy.... So far I'm 14 hours into this game. I'd give it a 4 out 5 so far, with the storyline making it a 4 instead of a 5. As for the Online play... Pretty Fun stuff!!! This will be my last Metal Gear game ever...

I'd love a few more cars but for what you're getting its pretty intense and cool. I think its a great way to start a new franchise or series...

I don't even usually care much for racing games, and GRID completely blew me away. And I've never had so much fun watching replays. The presentation in GRID is nothing short of amazing.

MGS3, because I'm broked, and i got sucked into it again. I also have to play through God of War 2. I finally got around to playing this game (haven't played the first one) and am pretty impressed. Reminds me of how devil may cry played, except God of War is actually fun.

Working my way through MGS 1, 2 and 3 before I pick up 4 (I skipped the PS2 first time around, so 2 and 6 are new to me). Also working on Beyond Good and Evil on GameTap when one of the family is on the tv.

I got MGS2 for XBOX in the bargain bin a few months ago. I guess I'll put it in to see what the hub-bub is about. Otherwise its back to the regiment of TF2 and Assassin's Creed for me.

I just got COD4, but I am not ready, I think. I also want to get to the NG2 demo finally.

Alexander game me an idea to mess with the Civ Revo demo a bit more.

I'm currently playing EQ1. That's right, 9 years later. I forgot how large and dangerous a world it truely is. I hope one day that someone will create an environment as massive as this one. Todays instanced worlds are small and unmassive by comparison.

After work, I'll probably try and finish up The World Ends With You: the game is great but it is a little long. That is not a complaint, by the way. Also, I might play some Pro Evolution on my PSP, depends if I feel really up to it.

I have a suggestion: instead of asking what are people going to play, you guys should ask "what did you people play this weekend?"

It would be better to ask on a Monday or Tuesday as people's plans change all the time. You can never predict the future.

21 and a half hours later ..... and I have Changed my opinion and score back to a 5 out of 5. Thats one long ending...ssshhhh. What, no one loves Rome Total War anymore?

I'm happily early in the Greek game and have pretty much bitch-slapped the Romans back into their capitals and nowhere else. So refreshing, it being 200BC and for the Romans to not be all over the map. Who are all these weird primitive factions everywhere?
