We began to lose track of games featuring Capcom's iconic blue bomber when they began adding arbitrary letters and words to each sequel -- that's why we were overjoyed to hear that Capcom recently registered Mega Man 9 with the Office of Film and Literature Classification (Australia's ESRB). That's right, just Mega Man 9 -- not Mega Man Zero 9, Mega Man X9, Mega Man 9 ZX, or Mega Man 9 2: Electric Boogaloo.
The OFLC entry has the game slated for a multiplatform release, though the most insubstantial of rumors hint that Rockman's new adventure will take place on Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network. We usually scoff at unattributed gossip, but with vivid visions of online multi-man robot slaying dancing through our heads, our powerful scoffin' muscles feel a tad bit atrophied.

MM&B is more of a side-story than a full-on sequel. I mean, they even reused a few bosses (Green Devil, Tenguman, Astroman).
Even the header for the game calls it "Rock8.5"

Look, I know all you fanfic writers are totally into the whole storyline or whatever of Megaman, and it probably makes sense to people like you when you say "it's a side story" or whatever. But to any regular gamer/customer, MM&B is just another MM game, like the previous 8. Capcom aren't going to make those fine storyline distinctions, they may very well call it nr. 9, or if they don't, they might re-label a rerelease of it as nr. 9.
I'll say it again: if you deny the possibility is there, you're a fool.

It had to do with the music, the mechanics, and to show relation between the characters (Rockman, Roll and Blues)
I know, it sounds silly, but still interesting fact nonetheless...

Trust me, I know about the music theme behind the character names (don't forget Bass/Forte, Treble/Gospel, Punk, Tango, Beat, and maybe even Rush).
Doesn't make Rockman a good name, though. His original name, Rock, is fine though. :P

hahah, meh, I like Rockman, it makes him sound younger, more childish and not "badass" as Rock alone would sound.
Still, I do think that Rockman sounds much better than Megaman, I swear, Megaman sounds more like a wrestler's nickname...

I assume that was a typo....because I do not see WiiWare in that line.

like
dust+bubble=sticky toxic sludge
fire+heat=um.. bigger fire!
top+wire sponge=weedeater attack

Does anyone else remember the front cover to the first megaman on the NES?

imagine how much mega man would suck on a single platform. all you'd be doing is running straight to the right, shooting things as they come at you.
