Final Fantasy Tactics A2 trailer full of whimsy, tactics
27
It's actually pretty difficult for us to tell if the above trailer is any good -- you see, when the original Final Fantasy Tactics Advance came out, we played it until our GBA SP's brilliant backlight peppered our poor eyeballs with cataracts. From what we can tell through blurs and blind spots, Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift looks similar to it's last-gen predecessor, with a few minor graphical tweaks and improvements in sound. Considering Square-Enix has added a handful of new classes and races, and yet another lengthy single-player campaign, we're wondering where we can find a black market eyeball dealer/installer in our neck of the woods, and if they can pencil us in before the game's June 24 release date.

I was told that FFT was an amazing title when in comparison to FFTA, but I played and loved FFTA, but couldn't stand FFT (I still have the poor PSP port on my drawer)...
I just couldn't stand the camera of FFT, it gets too much on the way...
One thing I did like of FFT over FFTA (which btw does have a somewhat poor storyline) was the initial setup, it seem more challenging and hinted more to the ability of multiplayer battles (one thing that FFTA didn't have, only co-op was available)
All they need is, a bit more of skill variety, and a multiplayer option, other than that, they are set!

uh, you can move the camera but it stays on the isometric view, which is god awful because it still blocks your biew
FFTA, yes, you werent able to change the camera, but why would you when it was great to begin with? you could see the whole battlefield, there were transparencies just in case something blocked you....
Yes, FFT, the little I played of it seemed mor challenging, something that I love with passion about games, but the camera was so horrible that I couldn't stand it...
That reminds, Imma contact Yoon to see if I can give it away :(

Not a big fan of strategy RPG's (I love RPG's with turn based or real time fight system).
But... I enjoyed a lot of strategy RPG's on the DS (Final Fantasy XII, Heroes of Mana, and some Atlus games), mainly because the stylus. It's a lot fast paced and fun than traditional controls.

I personally think FFTA was better than FFT. Everything was awesome except for the childish story, and supposedly this one has a childish story too. I want a FFT game with EVERY FF game featured in a big fan service strategy game.

I cannot wait for this game, if it gives me half the playtime of FFTA then it'll be worth my $40.

Did you finish the 300 missions? I forgot what it was that you get once you finish all the missions, aside from the fact *spoilers* that you find out that Marche becomes the next judge...

*SPOILERS*
I beat all 300 missions on both files. You get the alternate ending which tells you that Marche becomes the next judgemaster and you get Cid as a guildmember.

haha, yah, I remember.
But Cid wasn't that great of a character, so all I did was show off...
"I found one of the secret characters!"
"Oh? I got Cid!"
It pissed me off tho that he losses his chocobo...

Cid was okay, just not worth the amount of playtime needed to unlock him.

IMO this game looks much too similar to the original FFTA for my tastes. Anyone who like me never finished the original game cause they grew bored with it are probably better off avoiding this one.

Goodness gracious, I put like 150 hours into the first Tactics Advance and I don't even remember how many hours into the first Tactics for PS1. I prefer the story of the first, but wish it wouldn't be so complicated. But as long as the gameplay is similar, the game will be awesome. Momminsean, I will be waiting for Disgaea, too. But Disgaea is like overkill if you really want to get everything and the last one did start to get boring to me way faster than Tactics would.

Oh and by the way, JerJer, I bought and started playing Tactics Ogre and "meh" was exactly how I felt after about 6 or 7 hours. Tactics (way) > Tactics Ogre
Super star, did you try out the PSP Tactics? I almost bought a PSP just for that game.

Just maybe I'll beat the original before this one releases. That game is crazy hard - in part because I don't grind for xp enough.

I was never a big fan of the whole FF Tactics series. I really like Advance Wars and Fire Emblem and I have a love/hate thing going with Rondo of Swords. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate FF Tactics, I just never "got it".

For some reason I can only stand SRPGs on handhelds...Disgae is the only exception
But yah, the 3 series are different
For me I would say that FE is the hardest of them all, you have to think about each unit, AW, it is also hard, but not as hard because you can always create new units, you think more like in a "military" way (which is also cool) in which sacrifices can be made, and there is FFT, which is much easier than the other 2, the thing that I liked about the game is the level of customization was so great, I think for my main party members I ended up getting them to the highest level, all the classes/skills, and the best weapon for them...

Looks alright I guess, but is it really worth it without Yasumi Matsuno being involved?
I loved Tactics Advance, but I'm on the fence with this one without Matsuno-san's direction (awesome visuals though, Hand Drawn 2D Isometrics FTW!).

FFT makes me want to try it. But FFTA makes me know I shouldn't.
