60 person online / 8 person co-op loooks awesome, they didnt talk enough about the 8 co-op, didnt I hear somewhere that the levels were self generating. So that the co-op is fresh and different everytime. Did I dream that or what? game looks pretty graphically so far, but the gameplay is where insomniac wins IMO.

Needs more colours...Or should it be less colours to fit in with other next-gen shooters?

Haha!
I got downvoted! How is insulting the lack of colours in the majority of shooters something to be offended by?

Unless you actually enjoy having high bloom high contrast low colour games. I sure don't unless there's a good enough reason... Which I haven't run into so far.

Lol, war is meant to be dire, otherwise we end up with a game like Crysis or Halo where people spend more time looking at the foilage, background scenery and taking a swin rather then shooting the hell out of the enemy, lmao, if you want that, play an MMORPG :)

Interestingly, the backdrop for the interview (Insomniac Games HQ) is all brown and dimly lit. Apparently they have next-gen offices.

Lol @ why not the LS2LS7?

I like moody looking games with good lighting/bloom effects and I also like the more colour-rich games like Halo, which have amazing lighting/bloom effects. Why can't we just all get along? Won't anyone think of the children?

Sweet you can kill Gollum in it. Or at least.. something that looks like Gollum... except taller..

Looks pretty cool and smooth. Nothing's ever going to kill Halo, but why should it have to? It's still probably going to be a decent shooter, or at least one of the better generic ones. I'm guessing the multiplayer will be pretty dope too - esp. the co-op

woah, halo isn't a generic shooter? I hope were only talking about console here, but since Orange Box is on consoles now, I don't see why halo is still considered, top of the shelf shit.

when you say nothing is ever going to beat halo are you implying that halo is the best fps of this generation? or ever?in my opinion halo 3 was rather mediocre with mediocre graphics and laggy 16 person multiplayer. It wasnt a really innovative game. Resistence 2 looks to be making alot of console firsts, the graphics look nice and the gameplay with insomniac is always creative and fun. So what makes halo so great?

I agree with the sentiment that its sad that everything's put up against Halo, but it set the standard for console FPS. I didn't intend to bring PC into this one.

FPS in general is just way too oversaturated and there's a need for something fresh in it - pretty much everything is "generic" at this point with little bits here and there that make it special. I think pretty much all genres are suffering from this these days.

No, I don't, but neither do you

Oh, and just for the kicks, here are the metascores of

UT3
http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/pc/unrealtournament2007?q=unreal%20tournament%203

and Crysis
http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/pc/crysis?q=crysis

Biggest complain with UT3 is the somewhat weak single player campaing and the few bugs it had, and for Crysis the somewhat weak multiplayer, and the AI (more so after the second half)

So you tell me, how is that overrated? is it because of the graphics? if so, they are rightfully so, the graphics are still not matched by any other game out there...

Valve makes linear shooters that are getting more boring and samey with each episode (oh and they made one pretty good puzzler I guess).

FPS's will all keep sucking as long as developers are so deathly afraid of having the player -think- about where they should be going next, even for a second.

Nimblewick wins.

All shooters are garbage at the moment. To pretend otherwise is to engage in self-skulduggery. These games are for the most common of people who desire cheap thrills and no real thought. Every shooter I've played that has been critically acclaimed has always come across as hopelessly shallow and redundant after the first action packed hour.

This truly is the genre of the poor man. The anti-man.

Lord Bowser,

Look, Im not a fan of shooters, but goddamn, the UT series is INSANE (Sorry NATO)

The game is weak on the single player campaing, but it more than makes up for it on multiplayer, where this series really shines.

I was killed within the minute or 2, but goddamn, that is on twitch action shooter that doesnt disappoint....

Noshino you're arguing with nintendo fans, so don't bother. They don't like anything unless it has wierd characters with no personality and worlds full of flowers and butterflies.

It's also funny that one would make fun of another genre when all Nintendo games ever have is the same repetitive gameplay in each version. There's no other facet to their games.

i havent played Halo3, but I did Halo 1&2, HalfLife, COD4 and Bioshock, SW Battlefront and I gotta say that COD4 is fantastic. Its the Ferrari of the fps - SP & MP.

I am looking for a different type of gameplay, like Wii kinda stuff. I am gonna get GH and see how it goes.

Hold DARE you stick Metal Gear Solid into a list of FPS. MGS has never been an FPS. It's an intense game of hide and seek.

Donald,

I actually get bored of Zelda, I know that they are good, and it shows, but I just dont find them entertaining, the only one that I actually loved were Link to the past (first one I ever played), Links awakening (it was awesome handheld game), and as far as the console ones, the only awesome one to my eyes has been Majora's Mask, and surprisingly it is seem by many as the worst one...

I stuck MGS in there as I was putting in FPS's AND games that are all grey and brown. MGS4 does look fun, but you can't deny that it's not exactly the prettiest game (color wise).

It's in the top 3 FPS played online, so overrated may be the wrong word. I don't play it myself, but it seems millions of people do.

Just give it a rest. Your shit is getting old. You don't like FPS, we get it. Whether you want to admit it or not, the arguments you made against FPS games can be made against pretty much every genre. Every time you appear it seems it's just to bitch and moan about games. Go find another hobby, this one clearly doesn't suit you.

Typical answer from someone who has seen nothing from the game except for the trailers. There are actually 5 different locations, one for each act, and each one is almost a 180 turn from the next. You go to deserts, jungles, snowy areas, and a european city area (won't spoil the last area).

It looks pretty solid, visually it does not seem like its pushing the ps3 that hard, but then again, they are using the same engine for multiplayer. It looks great though, can't wait to play it, i will have a blast, 8 player co-op wooo.

Actually yes, you are right. RFoM was a terribly dire and mediocre FPS. It was much too generic to be enjoyable (unless you like generic games). The story was weak, the music was ear splitting and the gameplay felt like any random PC shooter circa 2002.

I just don't have my head up any-company-related-to-this-game's arse unlike the above posters.

Funny enough, fall of man was bland, apart from the weapons, there was nothing great or spectacular about the game, but yet, neither was there much I could find that spectacular about the new Halo, but yet, both seemed to sustain my interest vaguely because of the Co-op and weaponry, had they both had no co-op or multiplayer aspects, they would both have been crap in my opinion.

Saying that, I think for a first time effort, Insomniac did quite a good job, unlike a lot of the games releasing these days, the game was more or less bug free, had all its modes open for use day 1, and while colours were bland, the enemies looked far more respectable then 60% of Halo enemies excluding the flood and Hunters.

This one however is looking quite interesting, and since they mentioned the 60 player online and 8 player campaign, I've been hooked, no matter how bland the game is, if I can have a laugh with mates, I'm not too bothered.
