Hey Ross,

I bought MGS4 after you said it was good for new comers, and I love it. Thanks for the recommendation.

Maybe its just me, but i love the cutscenes and most times look forward to them. 90% of the time the cutscene shows of some stunning graphics.

For those who havent played, way the story is playing out you cant have live action and tell the story like they did in GTA. its not like you can go stealth or into war with an audiotrack playing over. its essential to the game.

You know what, F it. Those who hate will always hate regardless, those who defend will be branded with "SDF", doesnt matter either way. For those who are or who have completed this masterpiece, i consider you the lucky ones.

BTW, all these reported cutscenes didnt scare off 1.3 million fans the first day.

Well, a lot of people hate it just because it's not on their system, or because they expected it to be exactly like the others. This is meant to close the gaps, so if you've been reading the news, you'd have no reason to be disappointed. It's a solid game and for those of us who have loved it since it's beginnings, the story telling is a welcome gift.

yah, i wanted to comment on that scene, but i try to avoid any spoiler talk...not saying you revealed a major spoiler or anything.

That scene is stunning. I actually just got to that scene about 10 minutes ago and all i can say is wow.

i really love the way they designed the Raiden character for this game. His body armor is amazing and the details are just simply gorgeous. Kojima and his team have an uncanny ability of detailing the smallest thing. I can't wait to finish and then play through again, and thats something i rarely do. Hell I even ebayed GTA last week because i was simply done with the game and felt no need to go through again.

Not saying GTA was not great, it is, and im not going to be one of those fans who after they finish GTA or have spent now a month with it, call it overrated. Its not. It was a great game, but the one problem i had with it was the amount of 100's (and other games including MGS that get 100's) it takes away from future games. IGN said it best, if they could give this game an 11 they would. Well IGN, if you and the rest of your suspect industry would fix the review format and stop giving AAA game such high scores then it would be easier to distinguish great games from masterpieces.

This game is a masterpiece, imo. Its not a ten, and no game should be considered a 10. Problem with the industry and reviewing will soon be, whos 10 is greater?

Sorry for the rant.

Dang it! You called IGN out on exactly the same thing I was going to. Wishing you could give a game an 11? This isn't Spinal Tap (or is it?). Rate games within your scoring scheme and you won't be faced with this kind of problem. The only game that should get 100/100 is a game on the holo-deck of the Enterprise that has no glitches (you know what I'm talking about... if you're of legal drinking age). Otherwise, rate it accordingly! A "90%" would ideally be a must buy in my book, but now it's just another pretty good game I might (but probably won't) like.

I don't mind reveiwers giving games a 10. It depends on what your definition of a 10 game is. To me, a 10 signifies that the game is one of the best games ever made, a description that fits MGS4 perfectly.

I didn't think GTA4 deserved a 10, simply becsuse I can think of loads of games I enjoyed more (GTA3 for example).

There can never be such thing as a perfect game, as everyone has different tastes, and there will always be a limit into what you can put into a game. You shouldn't think "ah this game got a 10, it must be perfect in every way" because you know it can't be.

So you're saying 11 hours of gameplay?

Re: "Hours of gameplay"

I am somewhat baffled by this metric, as many people seem to use it. Is the point of playing a game to rush through and get to the ending, then never play again? For me, it is not.

People griped about the length on Devil May Cry 4. To me, the real fun of that game does not come in the first playthrough, but in the subsequent ones as you build your skills, try harder difficulties, and master the timing. DMC pays off when you are pulling off sick combos and plowing through bosses untouched, and that takes practice.

Similarly, the fun in Metal Gear for me is in sneaking, exploring, finding all of Kojima's innumerable Easter Eggs, and beating the game on multiple difficulties. These things do not all come in the first playthrough. There is a lot to do in a Metal Gear game.

It's like some people play the game with a stopwatch. Where's the fun in that?

I am so happy to have a game that actually has a purpose and tells a story. This game actually touches on the current state of our world right now. It is by far the greatest game ever created on any platform. Even other mature titles simply feel like kids games compared to the majesty that is MGS4. This is the reason I play video games. I play games for stories like this as well as Hideo Kojima's perception of the future of our dangerous foreign policy. The social commentary in this game really makes my heart flutter and makes me want to fight for change and a revolution in our country and for this planet.

When you take into account the social commentary along with Kojima's attention to detail this game sits comfortably on top as the greatest interactive experience of all time. This is not your typical BS shooter with testosterone and aliens. This is MGS 4. I know a lot of people loved GTA Iv and rightfully so. However, there is no comparison what so ever between the mindless violence of GTA and the purpose behind the violence in MGS 4. There is actually a huge difference and if you can't see that I feel sorry for you.

Please check out Immortal Technique if you want the truth in music form. I have found it is the absolute perfect companion while playing MGS 4.
