Losing one of your company's most recognizable figureheads, especially one whose name is so closely associated with most of your best-selling properties, is bound to put a damper on things around the office. However, that last statement assumes that there are still people in the office -- 1UP recently printed a rumor that as many as three dozen Team Ninja higher-ups could be leaving the company following Tomonobu Itagaki's resignation, and will sue Tecmo to gain unpaid bonuses for the games they've completed (much like the class-action suit Itagaki planned to file against the company following his departure).
1UP's source for the rumor was the ever-present "word on the street", though that's likely just rumorese for "we have an inside source". Whoever it may be, we doubt it's the same hopeful Tecmo higher-up who recently assured the public that Team Ninja was going to be just fine, as losing your poster boy, a heartbreaking amount of stock market value, and supposedly, a healthy portion of your workforce in such a short period of time would surely make any game developer feel anything but.

If his team is willing to leave/follow his lead, then he must not be all that bad to begin with. Especially not as bad as most people here try to portray him.
Sure, he may be egotistical or egocentric, but at least he contributes something to the industry. I can't say that I am a major fan, but I know that he is very talented and also appears to be a good leader if his troops are following suit. If not to follow him, but follow his actions at least.

Yeah, I mean I think the guy is likely one of the biggest dbags on the planet. LOOK at the picture for gadssakes. Aside from being an ass about that, it's pretty clear the guy knows what he is doing, and has really been the force been some real quality gaming.
BUT, you need to look at why they're doing what they're doing. They're not necessarily following him so much, as they're following the almighty dollar. This still goes back to unpaid bonuses and compensation that they all felt Tecmo had promised them, but never delivered on. Cmon I'm sure all his coworkers know he's a tool, tee hee, I kid, I kid...

Like him or not (and clearly most of you don't), this doesn't leave Tecmo with much.
Their output for the last half decade or so has pretty much consisted (in the US at least) of Team Ninja's games, retro compilations, Fatal Frame, Monster Rancher, and Gallop Racer titles for Playstation.
I don't think it's a well-obscured fact that the latest console Fatal Frame is for Wii and it's being published by Nintendo. Monster Rancher sounds like it's going super casual (as if it wasn't already) on DS and *MMO*...
Tecmo may not be long for this world, or at least not the world of relevance for gamers who are interested in playing their titles on PS3 or 360. You're looking at a long line of DS, Wii, and mobile phone titles stretching from here to the end of the world.

Itagaki and Team Ninja had developed some good games. I still pull my SNES out of the closet once in a while and play the Ninja Gaiden Trilogy SNES multicart and I am still playing Ninja Gaiden DS. I had just beaten Ninja Gaiden from the first Xbox yesterday. Tecmo is so screwed without Team Ninja.
