Here's the first gameplay footage from Resistance 2

Wow. I was surprised at how bad that looked! Even my buddy, who was psyched about the game based on the features alone, just called me after watching the trailer (in HD) telling me how he couldn't believe it "looks like ass". It's amazing to be on the opposite spectrum. Have you not played MGS4? Now *that* looks amazing!

I'm missing it, what looks so bad? Textures look good, weapons and interface look good. Nothing blew me away, but I'm not seeing what's so bad about it. Fill me in.

You're right. Bad by itself is not the right description. I mean bad compared to the hype and bad compared to other games like COD4, MGS4, etc. Perhaps "extremely un-wowed" would be a better way to put it, or "at least it's better than Haze".

Exactly...this game looks pretty disgusting if you're looking at from the graphics perspective (which a lot of sony fanboys tend to do).

To me it looks as good graphics-wise as Call of Duty 4 multiplayer on consoles. Which means 'above average to good'. 'Amazing' being reserved for the most graphically impressive PC games ;)
It looks 'arcadey' in feel, which cheapens the look somewhat, but graphics wise it looks fine to me. I don't know why you guys are making such a fuss.

MGS4 for one

Gears 2 looks incredible so far. The few scenes of gameplay that Cliffy B showed a few weeks ago looked awesome. Even Ninja Gaiden 2 looks better than that...

But hey its just an opinion. Obviously I'm not going to change yours and you're not going to change mine. Its more for the others out there.

60 player games mean jack unless they can successfully have a map large enough with a decent amount of playing methods to make it fun. Deathmatch was the shit 10 years ago, but that day has come and gone. Having 60 people run around playing some halo slayer bullshit isn't worth the trouble.

I wouldn't call R2 ugly but it's definitely bland compared to Killzone 2.

But then again, hey it's only resistance. It's not trying to reinvent the genre or anything.I'd probably check this out just for the sake of Multiplayer.

I can't believe how many people are in love with these trailers. Seriously people. The game looks awful graphically. I prefer my PS3 to my 360 any day of the week, so there's no fanboism here.. Open your eyes...it looks BAD.

I agree with the statements that this trailer does not "wow" me at all.

Having said that, my most played game of all time is DICE's Battlefield 2. I play almost exclusively the 64 player city maps, and it's awesome. It's safe to say that BF2 pales in comparison to this, graphics wise.

I don't have a PS3, but if I did, I'd give this a go for the multiplayer aspect alone.

It may hit, it may miss, but it would be worth a shot.

You seriously think Killswitch Engage is a low standards band? You can not like them but not liking them has nothing to do with standards. The band, for nearly anyone who likes rock or hard rock, is one of the best out there. Their albums are great and their live shows are awesome.

As far as the game goes ... It looks pretty fun to me but why don't we wait until we actually see a final build or get to play it before passing judgement. I know that is a crazy concept and all especially on this site.

For the most part what we were all seeing there was multiplayer gameplay and it did not appear to have any lag issues from the videos. Another novel concept is judging a game on more than just looks alone. For example, I own both Haze and Halo 3 and I had more fun playing Haze for 6 hours than I did playing Halo 3 for 6 months. Sometimes if we don't allow ourselves to get caught up into the hype and we have very little expectations going into a game they can surprise us. I am not trying to say that Haze is a better game than Halo 3 in ever sense of the word. I am just saying that I had more fun playing it. Take from that what you will.

This is obviously not the final build of Resistance II so lets just take a wait and see approach. I will say that I am certainly impressed with what I have seen thus far. I am also very impressed with Socom for the PS3 which will also be released this year. Not every game has to have hyper real graphics to be great.

MGS 4 is the first game to combine those great graphics with equally great gameplay. In my opinion it is the pinnacle of a video game achievement. It is borderline interactive entertainment and the level of immersion and emotion provoked by the game is unrivaled by any other title in history. It is the most cinematic experience ever sculpted in virtual space. Resistance can sit back and just be its self and not try to be something it is not. It is not Halo, MGS or COD 4 and it should not try to be.

As for the rest of your killswitch comment, I almost feel sorry for you if you think they're a great "metal" band, cause nothing they play can hold a candle to any of the old greats.
