- Developers "stole shamelessly from mega-hits" to get the best features from each one. Games cited include Halo, Half-Life, Resistance, Metroid Prime and Goldeneye.
- The control scheme is fully mappable, and the look sensitivity can be adjusted in-game.
- Speaking of controls, The Conduit will support Wii remote and nunchuk only. Sorry, no classic or GCN controller compatibility.
- While the developers would love 60 frames per second, they are shooting for "a steady 30 fps."
- They avoided addressing the rumor about Nintendo self-publishing. Said Creative Director Matt Corso, "All I will say is that thanks to the explosion of interest in this title, we've had a lot of publishers knocking on our door."
Interview: High Voltage devs discuss The Conduit

Having already secured some nice exclusive screenshots from High Voltage's The Conduit, our friends at Nintendo Wii Fanboy also managed an interview with the developers to talk about the upcoming Wii first-person shooter. A broad range of topics were discussed, so in the interest of keeping your attention, we'll use a bullet-point list:

Eden Prime was a major victory! The beacon has brought us one step closer to finding The Conduit.
Sorry; every time I see this game, that's what comes to mind.
... and one step closer to the return of the Reapers.

Yeah, Wtf is up with this game. It looks just like Metroid and Halo 2 Mashed together. I feel reluctant to get this game. I mean it looks good and everything it's just lacking creativity. It'll probably get a 8.5 by IGN and will probably get reviewed by Bozon. The Video game community is so predictable.

I'll tell you what the reviews will say:
"in the end, the conduit is an average shooter that could not have competed in any of the other consoles, and also the best fps on the wii yet"

Probably. Might attract other FPSes to the console that way, since you don't have to compete in a market that's oversaturated with FPSes
But you're right. Not seeing anything that would make it exceptional, except that they are shooting for a realistic, graphically excellent FPS on a console where none of those exist, so they'll get credit for something that would have flopped horribly anywhere else

Really, since the days of Unreal Tournament and Quake 3 Arena, every FPS up to date has been generic to me.
What do we need to find a FPS non generic??? Besides the new way that the Wii brings to us?
This may be generic, but still, this will be an awesome game for the Wii

Downvoted into oblivion! yeah!
Anyway, I never said it would be generic, I said it will be average. To me it seems to lack the feeling of greatness other games have had, like sys shock2 or half life for fair comparison.
In short, it will have average gameplay, lame level design, etc...
Yeah, I know I have not played it yet, but I'd bet on it.

Idk, but when i read their description of the story, i almost think that what they're creating is bordering on genre parody, a la Mortal Kombat
I mean, check this line
Rob: The agency that Mr. Ford works for has developed its own unique technology that goes far beyond standard military weapons and gear. Our protagonist starts with some equipment given to him by his mysterious contact, "Mr. Adams". Later in the game, Ford acquires the "badass blue suit", which is actually a high-tech piece of battle armor. That explains the blue power suit that you see in the screenshots. The suit offers many combat enhancements to help get the job done right; greater jumps, better health regeneration, and damage resistance.
Matt: As for the tuxedo, it's actually more like a men's business suit. Guys like Mr. Ford need to look their best when investigating alien conspiracies. Unfortunately, they sometimes find themselves unprepared for when the truth starts shooting back at them. After a little help from his boss, Ford will not only acquire the blue suit, but also new weapons and devices that provide cutting-edge combat capabilities.
Between the names "Mr. Adams, Mr. Ford," and the painfully obvious allusion to Men In Black, and their admission to trying to create a core FPS based on the best of everything that's been done before, i'm kinda seeing genre parody

The all-seeing-eye and the alternate reality effect feel like They Live! to me. Which would rock. They should make a They Live! game.
it was pretty clear from the first trailer that it was gonna be a MiB style parody. the question is whether they can pull it off... comedy in video games is notoriously hard to make work.

I'm not really sure why some people are complaining. There isn't really anything wrong with it looking like "Halo and Metroid put together." At least they're... trying to make a good Wii game. I really hope that this game succeeds. Maybe developers will actually try to make Wii games that play AND look good, and the Wii could end up getting a better looking and more original shooter. And in my opinion... today, it seems kinda difficult to make an original FPS.

This sounds interesting...
Halo for the replenishing health bar, Half-life for the story, Metriod for the control (though hopefully improved and teaked a bit) and character designs, Goldeneye for a slower pace (no jumping up and down with a rocket launcher on your shoulder while moving at break neck speeds) and customization..
Never played Resistances so I have no idea..

First person shooter for the Wii that looks like a PC game from 1999. Cool. I guess.
This one is going to have to win me over with a great mechanic or story. I've lost faith in my Wii.

Shouldn't that be the reason you buy games in teh first place?

Did you play PC games in 1999? They didn't look that nice. Most PC FPS games from 1999 still play better than any made today, but they didn't look that nice.

I hope this game sells well, too, but at least on gaming websites, it feels like there's a collective yawn towards it.
It makes me feel kinda bad for these guys since they're obviously putting their heart and soul into this.

yes. yes i can.
it should be completely obvious that when a developer of 100 shitty licensed shithouses comes out slinging massive emotional excitement about (paraphrase) "finally being able to do what they want to do without publisher pressure", you CAN (and should) blame the collective video game media scene for making rash assumptions based off of circumstantially mostly-irrelevant history.
thanks for asking.
also: that first (main) screenshot looks like xbox360 material. look closely. the only argument against that statement would be the tree, in which case i'd retaliate by saying that this game is months and months away from retail, and is a very early build.
i'm really really hoping nintendo themselves gets behind this as publisher.

Yeah I don't get the "collective yawn" over this game. Maybe I haven't exhausted my interest in FPS by being able to play a lot of them or owning systems being showered with like two dozen a year, but I just don't get why people are so inclined to mock this effort. The Wii itself has hardly gotten a FPS game of presumably similar caliber as those that people get excited for on other systems (or is it because it's on the Wii that people are more inclined to bash it). I mean people went relatively gaga over Haze, Darkness, or Timeshift and I didn't even see anything special about those in the same way people here have for The Conduit. And if we're on the subject of generic, Resistance, Gears of War, Legendary, etc. on the surface look exactly the same to each other. I'm not saying The Conduit will or will not be great, I just don't get the reaction, especially considering the mounds of garbage software and the typical "Wii's not for hardcore/deep storyline" BS the system tends to get.

@ Vegata
Not always for me. Sometimes I can be a graphics whore. There are a handful of PS3 and 360 games that I probably would never have played if not for the eye candy.
That's a luxury that the Wii doesn't have in my house. Though I do understand that many people love the system for it's ease of use. Like many, I've been let down by the lack of quality titles for the Wii. It seems to be either Home Run, or bunt for a third strike with that console. There's not been much middle ground.

This game has some promise, but right now it screams generic shooter. Not that being generic is always a bad thing but it will probably make the story line very boring.

This could be a good game to cater to the Wii only crowd. I'm not sure how many multiplatform gamers out there will really be interested in this when the others offer richer experiences in the same genre. It'll really come down to how it plays - controls can make a big difference

You know, reading all these comments aggravates me.
What the hell do you people want in a FPS? They are ALL generic. All of them. There's probably a collective of 5 story arcs that are repeated throughout the genre.
We as gamers want innovative game play, and fantastic story arcs, and this, and that, and blah blah blah; but the minute somebody comes out with something even MILDLY interesting, the gaming community at large jumps on the project like a pack of wild dogs on a downed zebra and tears it apart.
I'm not going to say that this game is going to be the best damn thing since the contra code, and I'm not going to say that it sucks either...
I'm going to follow the news about, PLAY IT for gods sake, and THEN base my opinion on the experience, rather than on a 30 second game play trailer and some goddamn screen shots.
Give these, and other, developers a chance to show their product, and at least try to satisfy our need.

The internet is one big vicious loop of hate. First you bitch and moan about how the Wii has nothing but mini-games, then a developer makes something like this and you bitch and moan about the fact that it's a waste of time because it won't sell.
Also, no matter what someone always says "It looks generic!" or "No good graphics, those look like PS1!". I don't buy games because they look good or are using a new mechanic. Many ugly, generic games have come out and I've liked them. Do you know why? Because generic in a genre that is enjoyed is a good thing (ask any JRPG fan), and I don't care about graphics (sure, I get annoyed when a game has no polish whatsoever, but I won't shut it away just because of that).

Actually in a surprise twist differing from some of the other reasons mentioned in these comments; this game is the reason why I'm *keeping* the system. I'd actually like the Wii to get more titles similar to this over the usual "Mario(insert verb or pronoun)".
Hell, IGN just posted yesterday that the Wii is FINALLY getting a hockey game(that isn't the Backyard Kids series). Long overdue, but I'm not holding my breath on it being worth buying over the other two consoles. :\
