Arnon,

I'm done responding to your ridiculous posts because you are completely out of touch with reality.

Microsoft has to learn from the past. People and companies learn from mistakes. We will have long forgotten about RROD when the 720 comes out.

Jesus. Microsoft just DOES NOT LEARN.

I bet the DRM will be even worse on the next console.

i really dont want to see a new xbox/m$ console in 2 or 3 years.. it took 2 years just to get real 'next gen' games (80% of the launch and first year titles weak), by 2011 developers will have barely scratched the surface of the xbox 360s potential.. in the long run, the better goal is to 'perfect' the 360 and ride that pony till it passes out (goodbye halo 4)

A laptop?... hmm, I like it because it makes sense to a certain degree. You have the mobility angle covered, which Microsoft is painfully lacking at the moment. Japanese like mobility gaming, so you've got a real contender in Japan. You've got the home entertainment hub angle covered. It would make the leap into next gen consoles easier for those who haven't bought HDTV's yet, what with the built-in screen and all.

But the the laptop design could drive up costs.

Yeah I agree with what you are saying.

You should read my reply to Ryan. (I don't want to post it on you since it's kinda long).

The only thing I don't fully agree with his theory on is the whole screen thing. I just think it will alianate some people. I agree that the next gaming consoles will be more complex and perform many duties that an average PC does too.

Let me know what you think about what I said to Ryan.

The idea is highly intriguing. Who needs a handheld when you have a laptop sized full fledged gaming console at your disposal? It could easily compete in both markets.

But realistically, making an "entertainment system" portable, powerful, and affordable seems too good to be true. And when things sound too good to be true, they normally are.

The thought of a 360 "laptop" is laughable at this point. I can just imagine someone sitting on the bus and pulling this mammoth machine from their backpack, flipping up a little screen, and spending five minutes on a game before having to go through the process of putting it away.

Now, what I *can* imagine is Microsoft having some sort of detachable screen (or controller with a screen on it) that uses the MS Touch technology they've been touting for the past few years. This might be the strategy that marries the power of the next system that appeals to hard-core gamers with the quirkiness of the Wii that appeals to soft-core gamers.

Ysleiro, yeah I think you're right about the console/PC integration. And the screen could be a turn-off for many of the casual gamers out there that Microsoft wants so badly. The Wii is clearly the dominating console of this generation because of its appeal to casual gamers. I think Microsoft is going to come out of the gates marketing the "720" to casual gamers because thats where the money is. The laptop screen does seem more intimidating or maybe more computer-like, which is a turn-off for casualz. So I'm not sure how Microsoft is going to spin this one. But the gamer in me likes the versatility of the laptop screen. I'm not casual by any means so I say bring it on.

I really think that microsoft should wait another 4-5 years, why?
well I mean the lifespan of the original xbox wasn't that long, I bought the 1st xbox, and what do you knw? the next year comes along and the 360 comes into play
leaving me to regret not waiting a year longer
but for the ps3 you can relay on it
unlike microsoft, Sony dosn't abandon there older consles , like the ps2 for exapmle

im pretty sure, microsoft would have gained much more profit from the original xbox, if they would have made more games with it and stuck with it.
I mean Halo2 was quite a excellent game
that was when most gamers I think flooded towrads the xbox?

I wouldnt mind if microsoft relased a new consle in the nxt 4 years
but for the xboxfan boys I think they shouldnt abandon there 360, if u think about it, it would just be all a waste of money right?

sure 3 years of fun with halo3, gears, and cod4
but then ull have to catch up

You cant ever catch up with the current model consle, new ones will always be in devlepoment, so youll have to play your cards carefully on the right consle

I own a playstation 3. it is a good console. but i do think that a ten year life is a bit long. so a realy realy cheap laptop by the time ps4 comes out will probably be a better games machine then ps3. on the other hand maybe in those long years before ps4 the boffins at sony will work on something far superior to the 720. but as for ps3 coming out a year or so after 360 and being similar power. the xbox came out about a year or so after ps2 and far outclassed it.

I havent read the entire thread, so sry if this is a repost, but I'm wondering if MS isnt gonna somehow implement Surface with the X720. I think Surface is beautiful and would love to see some sort of compatibility between that and X720. I'm tired and not feeling particularly creative at the moment, but I'm sure the good ol' boys at MS could come up with some awesome way to tie these together.

I'm positive MS will not be the first out of the gate next time. Why, because they are finally profitable. Why take the time and money necessary to invest in developing an entirely new console? Also, the financial investments in exclusive GTA4 DLC and jRPGs (Mistwalker Studios, Star Ocean, Tales of Vesperia, etc...) indicated that Microsoft is supporting the 360 for the long haul.

To Ryan's point, a gaming notebook (Xnote) could alleviate the Blu-Ray, storage, and upgrade issues plaguing the 360 currently. It sounds like a topic worth discussing. I, personally, want a 3D-capable console with an impressive user interface for a great price.

Seriously though, it's too early to even be discussing next-gen. We have to yet to experience the FFXIIs, GoW 2s, and Resident Evil 4s of this generation. Let's go developers, I'm waiting.
