One more revelation from yesterday's massive exodus of games out from under the corporate shroud: Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 will be based on Marvel's "Civil War" miniseries, which introduces the Superhuman Registration Act. The act requires anyone in the United States with superpowers to register with the government and thereby reveal one's civilian identity. In the comics, the act creates a rift between those heroes who advocate (and, with the help of sanctioned villains, enforce) registration and those who forcefully oppose it. A supposed marketing survey suggests that Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 will follow a similar storyline: "Select your side in the conflict and assemble your team from a roster of 20 Marvel Legends, including Hulk, Wolverine, Spider-Man, Venom, and the Human Torch."
The game will apparently feature a "fusion" system, whereby superpowers from one character can be combined with another, "such as fusing Spider-Man's powers with Storm's to give Spider-Man lightning webs." How about combining Superman's heat vision with Green Lantern's power beam to grant Superman green rays of burning light that shoot from his eyes and can take the shape of ... anything! (Take that Scorpion!) Er, oops ... wrong universe.

Get real, hippies. Stark was in the right. If only Captain America had wised up sooner, he could be leading the recruits at Camp Hammond right now instead of sitting in a coffin at the bottom of the ocean.

Yes, I realize I'm saying Stark was right and I have a Skrull av.
Registration was a good idea. You can't have people capable of tearing cars in half running around with masks on beating up people whenever they feel like it, even if they only feel like it when people are breaking the law. It was just handled so poorly. Anyone that works for the CIA is "registered", but it isn't as though I could walk in and find their street address. That's what the SHRA should have been. If you want to go out and help people join the super-police, get some basic training and do it with organization. No one complained about Avengers IdentiCards.
I actually didn't like the Civil War series for that reason. Two of the smartest people in Marvel think it's an awesome idea and go way overboard and Cap, already "registered" with the army, thinks it's ridiculous. What?
Also, they shot the Hulk into space and thought it wouldn't come back to bite them. The guy gets so angry even comic book physics cease to apply and /that/ was the plan. You can build an Ultimate Nullifier, resist the temptation to use the Infinity Gauntlet, but you don't realize this might be a bad idea? Oi. They should have known better on all counts.

probably should change the title if true, technically it's not a "Ultimate Alliance" if it's split between two sides. Nevertheless I enjoyed the Civil War miniseries as well.

Black Bolt would be way too powerful. It would be like using a cheat code.

on the Ds version you could literally whisper your way through the game.

"I didnt come here for a whisper, I came to hear you SCREAM!"- Hulk to possible skrull black blot before smashing him and every other puny marvel hero. Me want World War Hulk! Either way it makes sense to have games based on the stories. Good way to bring in readers.

I'd love to see the T'bolts but only if Norman Osborn is playable.

As long as they show Galactus' attempt at revenge, Dark Phoenix's return from the grave, and what the Black Widow does with that file of Nick Fury's brainwave patterns, I don't really care what the "gimmick" behind the game is.
But if instead of a "game over" screen, they showed a small sequence where your losing team defects to Canada, that'd be cool.

You won't be able to play the comic "Civil War" because Cap, Iron Man, and some of the other major players won't be in the game due to license issues

Too bad the civil war series sucked ass. Especially what they did to spider man. It was just another one of the many ways marvel has ripped off DC(poorly)

20 characters? i want a hell of a lot more than that! i think there was more than 20 in the last one.... now if it was 20 charcaters for each side then that would be more like it!
not so sure about the whole civil war thing, the story arc was okay but whether it can be translated into a game? what about something like onslaught saga or the infinity gauntlet saga...
whatever they do, they better include she-hulk in this one... theres so many worthwhile characters that they could include, and hopefully this time they will leave out the nobodies, such as elektra.. she might be a good character but in the last game she was just awful!
they need to include some of the more obscure (but favourable) charcters such as cloack and dagger and tigra or maybe do it so that all the unplayable characters can be unlocked by completing the game to add some replay value?
whatever you do, do it justice and add WAY more playable characters (thats why we buy these comic book games)... waited far too long for a sequel only to be disappointed!

Marvel: Ultimate Alliance was a very poor game, with annoying playability and control. Ridiculous multiplayer support too (same screen? gimme a break!)
And this absurd FUSION system sounds so... so... ABSURD! and IDIOT! I hope this idiot game never came out, or to be tottally revised...
Seems to be SO EASY to amke a GOOD GAME, with obvious and Normal ACTION, why the hell they mess up EVERYTHING????? Let the correct power each HERO, improve the TEAM cooperation (one VERY strong, one VERY fast, one than can pass through the walls, etc)
COMMON!!!!

Frankly, here's how I see it:
M:UA2: Civil War will probably have around 32 characters.
My guesses:
Pro-Registration:
Iron Man (No doubts about this guy. He might not be playable, though. They could make Iron Man and Cap unuseable)
Venom (Already in M:UA AND a member of the Thunderbolts)
Song Bird (Thunderbolt)
Swordsman (Thunderbolt)
Mach IV (Thunderbolt)
Doctor Octopus (Hey, he was a thunderbolt, AND had a Spider-man movie. You never know with Marvel.)
Penance/Speedball (Not sure about him. Maybe.)
Moonstone (Thunderbolt)
Mister Fantastic (Definitely.)
Yellowjacket (Maybe. His powers would be tricky.)
Bishop (Already in a marvel game AND in the CW? He'll be here.)
Deadpool (Same as Bishop)
Captain Marvel
Nighthawk (Possible)
She-Hulk (Probable)
Ares (Probably. I think so, at least)
Black Widow (Already in M:UA, so probably)
Ms. Marvel (Same)
Sentry (Marvel's superman. Maybe?)
Wonder Man (...We'll see)
Morbius (It would be cool, admit it.)
Scorpion (The girl)
Radioactve Man (Gotta be. He's a main T-bolt, and was in M:UA)
Task Master (Probably not, but it would be sweet)
Blade (Marvel stuck him on the pro-reg side on their website. I don't remember seeing blade in the CW, but they MIGHT just want to tie that loophole up once the came comes through)
Anti registration:
Captain America (R.I.P. And duh)
Archangel (Possibly)
Black Panther (Another M:UA return)
Cable (Hey, Deadpools here, Cable will be too.)
Daredevil (M:UA return)
Cloak and Dagger (They were key to the Civil War)
Hercules (Come on, he smashed robothor's brains all over the Baxter Building sidewalk. He's GOTTA be there.)
Human Torch
Invisible Woman
Punisher (Maybe)
Like Cage (All these guys are M:UA returns, minues Iron Fist and Ronin)
Doc Strange
Iron Fist
Ronin
Wolverine
Spider-man
Spider Woman
Also:
We know that the hulk will be in the game, even though he was on a different planet during the Civil War. That's okay, it doesn't have to make sense. Marvel has already stated that the games are in a different dimension, so we don't have to understand. I immagine most of the movie-made heroes will be here, Elektra, Ghost Rider, Silver Surfer, and so on even though they didn't show during the war.
Others:
I think the Young Avengers might make an appearance. Possibly the Runaways as well. I'm not sure how many X-men will show, since most stayed out of the conflict, but knowing Marvel, they'll probably use Storm, Nightcrawler, Colossus, Cyclops, Beast, Gambit, and a few others. I wouldn't be surprised to see more villains in the pro-reg side, due to the thunderbolts army, nor would I be surprised to see random characters thrown in just because they're popular. Example: Anita Blake? Maybe? We'll see.
