Virtual Console gets cut in a Samurai Shodown
The latest update to the Wii's Virtual Console gives those of you with Wii arcade sticks on your shelf a sense of purpose, as well as an excuse to dust them off for a bit of classic arcade fighting, Neo Geo-style.
- Samurai Shodown (Neo Geo, 1-2 players, 900 Wii Points): Once all the rage in arcade parlors when first released in 1993, this first in the still-ongoing fighting game series lets players duke it out using 12 different weapon (and sometimes animal)-wielding fighters. While a bit archaic by today's standards, the game still beats the pants off many contemporary fighters. Plus where else can you see a kabuki performer throw down against a green hunchback doing his best Freddy Krueger impression?

Give me SS2 and we'll talk.
xFenixKnightx @ Jun 16th 2008 9:42AM

Same here... #_# The SS series was a favorite of mine. I'm not sure what SNK was thinking after SS4; but the new game seems likeable.

I didn't mind the newer ones. Hell, I still enjoy all the SNK fighters on my NeoGeoPocketColor. It's amazing to me that they isn't a single bad fighter on NGPC, and there isn't a single good fighter on DS.

"there isn't a single good fighter on DS."
While it isn't a traditional fighter, the two Jump games were pretty good.
And there was that port of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3... was that any good?
Fighting sure has been the DS's weak point, though. :/

next lol, hopefully the wiiware stuff is good

FYI: Pretty sure this has been free on Gametap for a long while now, at least it was last time I looked.

riggs @ Jun 16th 2008 11:20AM
marry that woman.
samfish @ Jun 16th 2008 11:13AM
Even though Samurai Showdown is a good game...knock it off with this 1 VC game a week crap, Nintendo! So many awesome games just waiting for my money and they aren't up there yet!
xFenixKnightx @ Jun 16th 2008 11:29AM
If they put Killer Instinct Gold on VC, I'm finally getting my Wii online damnit. But when? There are definitely a lot of good games still not out yet. I just checked the list. Also, there is no excuse for having more TG16 games on that list than your very own SNES console Nintedo >:(
mr mobius @ Jun 16th 2008 2:14PM
As far as I know Europe got 4 VC games.
ComicShaman @ Jun 16th 2008 11:15AM
I wonder if they're keeping all the marvelous "Engrish" mistranslations intact. I thought those were essential to the game.
"Victoly!"
beatboxtaun @ Jun 16th 2008 11:16AM
OH how I miss Samarai Showdown! I had it for the 3DO. That's just too weird cuz I was just telling someone this about 15 minutes ago!
baby sea tuna @ Jun 16th 2008 11:22AM
Looks like you finally fixed that avatar problem you were having...
beatboxtaun @ Jun 16th 2008 11:59AM
I did, I did! Firefox saved the day! Too bad I don't really have a use for it! ;)

"Plus where else can you see a kabuki performer throw down against a green hunchback doing his best Freddy Krueger impression?"
Kabuki Quantum Fighter? I think there were hunchback enemies in that...
Mr Khan @ Jun 16th 2008 1:24PM
Fuck yes. Neo Geo is back
Though the anthology collections are tempting, you get more for your money, but money overall is tight
Jhongerkong @ Jun 16th 2008 1:32PM
Europe gets 5 games and we get one? Talk about a role reversal.
Android @ Jun 16th 2008 2:16PM
why isn't this on the ps3 network?
donculeoni @ Jun 16th 2008 3:23PM
Good game but I rather wait for it to come out in XBLA and SS2 and above.
Terd Fergeson @ Jun 16th 2008 9:44PM
Sorry to be negative here, but they probably could have picked a better video. This one shows nothing, and makes the fighting seem rather slow and dull, while this game is nothing but that, if my quarter and Mellow Yellow fueled nostalgia circuits recall correctly.
