Crytek shows interest in PSP development
Crytek is known for cramming high-end graphics into titles that are just as capable to give your PC a hernia as they are to entertain. However, with the Crysis developer now done with PC exclusives, the company has adopted a new strategy, one that apparently includes the PSP.
A new job posting on the developer's official website notes that the company is currently seeking a PSP programmer with multiplatform experience to work out of its Budapest office, suggesting that Crytek's next project following the recently announced Crysis Warhead will target Sony's handheld. Of course, nothing is known about the developer's PSP agenda or whether that includes plans to somehow squeeze its CryEngine technology into a more bite-sized format. That leaves us wondering if we'll someday be playing Crysis on the go, or if Crytek has something entirely different up its high-def sleeves.

blarg... I'll have to upgrade my PSP's hardware to run that game.
-duct tapes 2 PSPs together- :d
j/k, really.
PojoMofo @ Jun 17th 2008 9:42AM
Pii??
MariosInferno @ Jun 17th 2008 12:30PM
And...there it is.

bAssackwards @ Jun 17th 2008 6:22PM
Only geeks and otaku will want more storage for the Pii.
John @ Jun 17th 2008 9:45AM
Yeah, they'll make a generic game that runs like crap on 90% of PSPs, then blame piracy for poor sales.
FOXHOUND @ Jun 17th 2008 10:13AM
It's always disheartening to hear PSP software sales taking a dive(yet hardware sales seem consistantly good), with piracy usually cited as a majority reason. The handheld's a nice multimedia device, but Sony will definitely need to "sway" some third party companies back toward creating titles for it to retain interest. I personally like that there's decent competition in the handheld scene, since it usually strives Nintendo to put out better titles(at least ones better than the late GBC/early GBA days).
el serpiente @ Jun 17th 2008 10:54AM
Why would it run better on 10% of PSPs?
Tim The Enchanter @ Jun 17th 2008 11:07AM
He means the PSP owners who don't have the fully unlocked CPU, I suppose. But then God Of War unlocked it so it may be a moot point.
See what I don't get is why they're leaving a platform that's rampant with piracy to consider another platform that's rampant with piracy. But anytime someone new comes to PSP, I'm happy :-)
Tim The Enchanter @ Jun 17th 2008 11:10AM
Oh, and @ Foxhound:
I agree wholeheartedly. Competition pushes devs to make a better product. Win-win.
Haggard @ Jun 17th 2008 2:55PM
He's referring to what happened with Crysis on the PC.
John @ Jun 17th 2008 3:42PM
at least someone got the joke
el serpiente @ Jun 17th 2008 7:50PM
No, your jokes just suck.
John @ Jun 18th 2008 9:47AM
So does your mother.
4MyFriends @ Jun 17th 2008 9:46AM
Weren't they upset about low sales numbers on PC? Why show interest on a platform that is known for having abysmal software sales, on top of a not-so-friendly FPS button layout?
velocitySTRIKE @ Jun 17th 2008 9:47AM
Well I can understand why they'd choose PSP over DS.
gamedude420 @ Jun 17th 2008 10:16AM
why? were they looking for a system that sucks for fps and a lower install base and poor software sales?
guess so
ds would be best for an fps game, sure the graphics wont be the same as o psp but ds games look pretty good. oh right they will prob want to have a game thats all about graphics and less about game play , my bad.
el serpiente @ Jun 17th 2008 10:56AM
Is that 420 for weeeeeeeeeed maaaaaan?
PojoMofo @ Jun 17th 2008 11:00AM
gamerdude, you have obviously never played Crysis, becuase saying its lacks in gameplay is disgraceful. You are welcome to troll elsewhere
velocitySTRIKE @ Jun 17th 2008 12:02PM
o hai gamedude420,
I assume you've not played Crysis.
Superstar90 @ Jun 17th 2008 10:19AM
No FPS's for handhelds, they are always inferior. No matter how graphically advanced they are, the controls just don't suit them well.
And I include the DS in this because, while MPH and Dementium were good, I got terrible cramps after like 15 minutes.

*note to self: be nice be nice be nice be nice be nice...*
this.
is... goood...
news.
DangerMouse @ Jun 17th 2008 11:09AM
LOL, go from one system with major piracy problems to another one. Way to go, Crytek!
Ninjakamster (PS360 FTW!) @ Jun 17th 2008 11:24AM
I think Crysis actually had pretty damn good gameplay, its not a glorified tech demo as so many say, and I'm running it with a very outdated Geforce 7900GT. : )
ApolloIV @ Jun 17th 2008 12:35PM
The fact that the 7900 is "outdated" is kinda sad wouldn't you agree?
Haggard @ Jun 17th 2008 3:03PM
Well, I got one as part of my mid-range PC about a year and a half ago. It burnt out three months later.
BPM [MKWii: 2578 3585 8392] @ Jun 17th 2008 2:24PM
You hear that?
That's the sound of millions of PSPs EXPLODING.
