Fallen Empire: Legions open beta begins in one week

Just like a cartoon character barreling its way through a brick wall, body contorted in a character-shaped chalk outline pose – there's a peculiarly Tribes-shaped hole in our collective heart left when the classic team-based shooter was passed over by a newer, fancier generation of team-based shooters. But while those games have filled all sorts of other random holes in our heart (the thing was a perforated mess!), we find ourselves still Tribes-less.

Our best hope for a full recovery comes a week from today, when Fallen Empire: Legions – a spiritual successor of sorts from the original Tribes developers, formerly of Dynamic and now at GarageGames – begins its open beta at InstantAction.com. Whenever I hear "Fallen Empire".. I think of Magic: The Gathering.

and also how much a failure the Fallen Empire set was...

At least you guys played Tribes, by the time I started actively playing video games, it no longer existed.

BEST GAME EVER!!

Not really the best game ever but it was really awesome. Nothing like it really existed at the time. Nothing like it really exists now. I hope Fallen Empire can live up to my memories.

Unless something changes with Open beta, the game currently lacks a huge amount of content. :(

I've been in the beta for awhile. At this point, its not really fun. Sure you can jet and ski...and you have two flags...but thats it. I know only like 3 people work on the game, but only 3 people work on Battlefield Heroes and that game is much much much much much futher along than Legions. I feel that they really used the Tribes community to promote this POS. Sure, it might be fun....in 2 years.

Actually, you can play right now. There is an open room up now for anyone to join. As a heads up, there does not appear to be a way to invert mouse look.

Its kinda like tribes... be that good or bad. They've even included a lot of the exploits from tribes.

So, its incredibly fast paced, but if you're not a tribes veteran then some of it can be kinda confusing... like the fact everyone suicides the whole time to get back to base.
