That's absolutely fantastic.

What's better, is that it can see if you beat the game or not, and filter out spoilers. Amazing.

This game is not going to have the huge sales numbers in the US that I thought it would. I work for a certain company that is quite large, and our stores are only averaging 7 copies sold per store. Sad when each store received 60+ copies of the game.

It sold 500,000 here in USA first week.

Way below titles like GTA4, Mario Kart or Gears of War. But it should have good legs, because the bundle.

Fernando where are you getting your numbers from?

Just curious?

I'm very interested to see just how well its sold. It seems like ps3 owners everywhere are buying it. At least on all the various forums I visit (bluray, gaming, etc.)

After this what other big games that sony have planned? R2 and Killzone 2 right? I'm guessing LBP is still out there (although I think its really overhyped).

Lol you are ridiculous man.

I prefer Texas Hold Em to that stuff.

Thanks for the info though....

In terms of consoles sold I'm thinking it will have a huge impact.

@ PerfectCompanion...

I think for the rest of the year, Sony is focusing their attention on:

Motorstorm: Pacific Rift
SOCOM: Confrontation
Resistance 2
LittleBigPlanet

Killzone 2 is marked for February 09

Fernando, Gears sold 606k and MSG4 sold 502k. How is that "Way below"? Keep in mind that MGS4 was also released on a Thursday instead of the normal Tuesday.

And of course it's not going to sell as much as Mario Kart and GTA4. Both of those appeal to a much wider audience then MGS4.

this game will sell plenty. This game is the best game this gen, better than any 360 game and wii game (though i must admit wii tennis was awesome). Im gonna be going through my third playthrough soon, i want stealth camo. Also when have sales mattered so much. No one pokes fun at mass effect and bioshock for not getting over 2 mill sold (according to vg chartz).

Don't worry fernando, that's his opinion. Kinda like when you say Wii game X is the best game ever most of us just laugh and move on because we expected it from you.

The game sold half a million copies in its first week in the US, with a Thursday release no less. Those are huge numbers if you ask me. :)

Throw in another half a million sold in Japan, and another 400,000 for the rest of the world, MGS4 did pretty damn well, IMO.

(Note: all figures taken from vgcharts.)

Hyams,

360fanboys / Ps3haters don't count Japan since it hurts their arguments. You can't expect them to even find it on a map.

Or like tmac when he says that x PS360 sequel is going to be as original and innovative as a new IP, and we just laugh at him, cuz that's what we expect

I don't think it's wise for a nintendo supporter to knock another system's original IPs and fresh sequels. In fact that's probably the worst thing you could bring up.

The story is not confusing at all, unlike MGS2, *IF* you played through all five previous games (never owned a PSP so I'm not sure if Portable Ops ties in or not).

Trying not to get into spoilers, but it does a great job addressing how the hero of MGS3 becomes the villian of MG1 & 2. Virtually every question you may have from what seem to be inconsistencies between games gets addressed.

MGSPO covers the futher journeys of Big Boss and how he became the legend he is now, portable ops plus takes place just before the time in MGS4, so they do tie in, they are just not that crucial to the key plot.

Every PS3 owner should pick this game up. It's amazing.

It is a real shame alot of people won't pick this game up because they on;y like to shoot things without thinking (i.e. cod4, good game though). I think this is a game that should be experienced by all ps3 owners.

Yeah, I failed and now I spend my days just trying to annoy people on Joystiq.

What gives though chief? You seem a little uptight there about not much at all.

Ha ha troll every MGS thread? Are you serious? I'd like to see any evidence of that.

I fucking love Metal Gear Solid, love it so much that I don't feel insecure when people are a little negative about it, love it so much that I can make a joke about it.

As for the plot, I have no major issue with it, the cutscenes drag on a little unnecessarily from time to time but I have no issue with the actual plot.

What I meant to say there was I understand the plot perfectly.

Checking my comment history it appears that 'I fucking love Metal Gear Solid' is the first value judgement I have ever made on MGS on Joystiq, crude pictures notwithstanding. So I really don't get where you get the impression that I have trolled every MGS thread.

Now I can go back to saying "Snake, Snake, SNAAAAKE!"

Instead of "What, What, WHAAAAAAT?!?"

I like my system better: play MGS 3, then Portable Ops, then MG 1, then MG 2, then MGS 1, then MGS 2 and then borrow my friends ps 3 off him and MGS 4 and play that.

Okay, Konami, I'll let this slide. But the next update to MGS4 had better add a "Movie Viewer" option to the menu post-game-- I was so disappointed that it wasn't available after I finished. Still, solid game and the DB is definitely appreciated.

Hands down no movie viewer was the BIGGEST disappointment for me of the entire game.

No doubt when MGS4: subsistananced comes out it will have a bonus disc containing all the movies. I am still pissed at the fact that MGS3 Subsistance is going for $200.00 on ebay.

I found myself attempting to explain the full Metal Gear story to a buddy yesterday. It's a painful experience, I'm sure this diagram would have come in handy. MGS, MGS 3 and MGS 4 have complicated stories but they all make sense for the most part and are relatively easy to follow. MGS 2 on the other hand really is a mess. It almost seems like MGS 3 and MGS 4 exist to make sense of MGS 2.

Overall, I love the series. The story and characters are entertaining, despite the fact that it gets overly convoluted and the dialog can be inconsistent at times.

as epic, forward thinking, and convoluted as the MGS saga is, it's great to have something like this to examine the little things that you missed/forgot along the way. MGS4 is an absolute masterpiece.
