Rumor: The reasons behind Ironside's Splinter Cell split
The Sarcastic Gamer gang has been slipped another round of supposedly "inside" info regarding the rumored nixing of actor Michael Ironside as the voice of Splinter Cell's Sam Fisher. Rather than simply more "he's gone" talk, this time there are actual (rumored) details concerning the (also rumored) split, which comes during what has been a turbulent development process for Splinter Cell: Conviction.
According to the latest hubbub, Ironside was given the boot for being generally difficult to work with ... and asking for more compensation than publisher Ubisoft deemed sufficient for his work. Bear in mind that Ubisoft still hasn't commented on the situation, so all of this is just as plausibly deniable as one of agent Fisher's missions.

If it's true, then emo Sam Fisher can go fuck off.
Ebichu @ Jun 18th 2008 3:17AM
That's it, Fisher. I'm pulling you out!
potato @ Jun 18th 2008 3:22AM
That's what she said!

ZING!

If you look at the history of actors, they have a tendancy to ask for more and more, regardless if their work is responsible for success or not. Their egos are of the "I was in it, so that must be why it was a success" (of course if its a failure its everyone else's fault).
I bet he either asked for an extra zero or two on his salary or a percentage of the sales, thinking he was working on a movie and could make the same demands.
Remember that SAG recently threatened the gaming industry when they wanted a larger slice of the sales pie? I can't remember the outcome though.
Let's see, who deserves millions of dollars...the people that created, designed, developed and financed the game with thousands of hours of effort...or the actor(s) that put in a few hours in the recording booth?

Too bad he's one of the VAs who deserves to be paid, unlike some...
He's right on par with Hayter, pay the man the money!
Haggard @ Jun 18th 2008 11:37AM
Hayter understands that he's not the crux that the whole project is based around though. I reckon screenwriting has made him more aware of the implications of a huge project like MGS4 than Ironside is.

Being a bit of subject...
Why does Sam Fisher look at young again in the Photo, like someone in their late 30's, early 40's ??
In Splinter Cell 1 & 2 I got the impression that: his hair was going grey, approaching over-the-hill, with a quite jaded demeanor. Oh yeah, he also had a teenage daughter!
I guess they're trying to milk the Franchise by putting him in a time machine and making him 10 years younger.
Nutchos @ Jun 18th 2008 5:13AM
Maybe he just has good hair?
Skunk Ape @ Jun 18th 2008 12:22PM
3 words. Just for Men.
hexhunter @ Jun 18th 2008 7:51AM
I hope he isn't leaving, even if Splinter Cell is going to the dogs, I wouldn't imagine that anyone else could give Fisher a voice which truly matches...
Well, good luck to both Ubi and Ironside, they're both great...
BBXboy @ Jun 18th 2008 7:54AM
The Splinter Cell series seems to be getting weak. Word to Ubisoft: if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
You've already sucked the joy and charm from Prince of Persia by slapping your 'edgy' focus-group-fueled bullsh*t all over it. Maybe, just maybe the Splinter Cell series became popular because PEOPLE LIKE SNEAKING AROUND LIKE A HIGH-TECH NINJA IN THE F*CKING DARK!!!!
Let me guess - Michael Ironside is being replaced with Jared Leto, right?
xGeneral DEATHx @ Jun 18th 2008 8:12AM
Why not Keanu Reeves?
nealbailey @ Jun 18th 2008 8:49AM

Which PoP game are you reffering to? The last couple of Persia games on XBOX were superb and the new one is still a long time off.
Ok kids, what did we tell you about making assumptions?
Tim The Enchanter @ Jun 18th 2008 1:09PM
Woah.
BBX Boy @ Jun 18th 2008 1:35PM
The last couple of POP games were far from superb... Sands of Time was superb, the sequel was an MTV abortion, the last one was not quite as tainted as its predecessor but still nowhere near as engaging or true to the original property as the first.
Jhongerkong @ Jun 18th 2008 12:13PM
The real reason?
Ironside no likey emo Fisher.
BoringK @ Jun 18th 2008 12:50PM
Not a fan of the games, but I am a fan of the Ironside and I think we're about to see some heads explode at Ubisoft.
Kael @ Jun 18th 2008 1:44PM
I'm really hoping that they don't try to keep Fisher in the game. If you can't get the actor, you can't keep the character. They should do a Find->Replace "Sam Fisher" with "New Guy" or it's really going to be weird.
Stephanie @ Jul 14th 2008 3:02PM
Please oh please oh friggen please don't let that noise about the new Sam Fisher voice be true. Michael Ironside is the best and greatest VA to ever grace the gaming world. If Ubisoft is truely booting him from the limelight then I will be one sorely disappointed Splinter Cell fan. Michael Ironside made Sam Fisher what he is today and I couldn't imagine anyone else to play the part. As for the "patrick dump" rumor, please don't let that be true.
PS fallout boy SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
