The new metallic pink DS is very cool. I want one for me (really, looks amazing).
=p
Jhongerkong @ Jun 18th 2008 6:25PM
Coming out of the closet, huh?
Fernando Rocker @ Jun 18th 2008 6:26PM
lol... of course not.
But I have seen the new color in person, and it looks kinda like purple. Looks good.
Farseer (GDI) @ Jun 19th 2008 9:37AM
I'm sorry man, no matter how you cut it... it's still fucking pink.
Not that pink doesn't have a place, that is. As long as there is the presence of estrogen in your body, pink is a fine color.
PojoMofo @ Jun 18th 2008 6:09PM
Am I the only one on here that DOESN'T own a DS, phat or lite??
Crazd @ Jun 18th 2008 6:14PM
Nope. I don't have one either. Not that I don't want one, I've just never had the money for one.
Trickob @ Jun 18th 2008 6:40PM
I'm finally gonna get one!!! (belated birthday present)
:)
Josh Clark @ Jun 18th 2008 11:57PM
I don't have one either, and I really want one. If one of you guys has an extra, feel free to send it my way. :)
Superstar90 @ Jun 19th 2008 12:13PM
I didn't know the world non-ds owners convention was going on. All here? It seems that you lost a few billion...
Lars @ Jun 19th 2008 3:44PM
Don't own one either. I have been tempted to pick one up though... there's a couple mildly interesting titles. But I'm still put off by the price. Once it drops some more, then I'll definitely snag one if only just to have it.
Not saying that the price isn't horrible... the PSP costs more and I have two of those. It's just that for the occasional use that I think I'll get out of it just isn't worth the cost for me, whereas the PSP has features and games that I use all the time, so that's more justified. A few years back I bought GBA SP, and I pretty much only used it for FF:CC. Haven't touched it since.
Marty @ Jun 18th 2008 6:29PM
I've actually been tempted to buy another DS. I've got a DS Phat now, but you can't really see the dim screen very well when you're outside, and having a DS with a nice bright screen to play during my lunch hour would be great.
I've also been eye-ing the PSP however... trouble is, I don't know of any games (except maybe Puzzle Quest and the GTA spin-offs) that I'd be interested in, and I'm completely turned off to UMD movies. So I'm not sure what I'd do with it!
Fernando Rocker @ Jun 18th 2008 6:33PM
Well... the DS is the new RPG system this gen. I mostly use the DS as an RPG gaming system or to play 2D games. It has a lot of platformers and very unique games.
And it has a lot of first party games and a loit of good third party support.
The DS has both hardcore games and casual games. Too bad Joystiq commenters promotes the DS as a casual system only.
J @ Jun 18th 2008 6:34PM
Patapon is great. I just got God of War and it's simply amazing, certainly as far as hand-held games go. I would also recommend any of the syphon filter games and the dark crystal on umd is worth it (the only one that I own).
Marty @ Jun 18th 2008 6:38PM
See, I'm completely out of the loop. When PSP came out, it was way too expensive for my taste, and now that the price is more reasonable, I have no idea what's good and what's not!
And yeah, I agree Fernando, DS has got a lot of great titles... I've got a pretty decent library of games for it, probably the most I've owned for any portable game system. That damn screen on the Phat is so dim outside though. It's worse than a cell phone.
Trickob @ Jun 18th 2008 6:43PM
If you like strategy rpgs and you haven't already played disgaea 2, Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness is a great game. here's something else that will help:

I have one of the early versions of the PSP and it's also pretty hard to see outside. I'm not sure if the new versions help w/ that.
anyone know?
ChooChooCharlie (MK 0430-8740-2222) @ Jun 18th 2008 6:45PM
I agree. That screen is terrible in the sun. When I play on road trips I have to put a jacket or shirt or something over my head and the DS to get rid of the glare.
It's not very comfortable.
Marty @ Jun 18th 2008 6:51PM
DS Lite or DS Phat? I've actually never used a Lite outside before, but the screen is so much more vivid than the Phat, I figured it's got to be somewhat easier to see when you're in the car or something.
ChooChooCharlie (MK 0430-8740-2222) @ Jun 18th 2008 7:00PM
Sorry. I meant DS Phat. I don't know if the Lite is better or not, I don't personally know anyone who has one.
Obie @ Jun 18th 2008 7:53PM
@Marty,
Yup the DS lite is currently the brightest portable screen on the market. The power once went out at a buddies house, I used the highest brightness screen to light up a room...now that's somethin!
Lars @ Jun 19th 2008 5:24PM
Best thing to do is just browse the complete list of games at gamespot.com and see what catches your fancy. You can sort it by score if you want too. That's probably better than asking what games are good. I have a huge library, but what I like may be completely different than what you like.
Jay @ Jun 18th 2008 6:54PM
:( I don't have my spare DS anymore,
After I got my lite I gave my phat to my sister so she could stop stealing mine for nintendogs and animal crossing.
&rew @ Jun 18th 2008 7:23PM
There are two mistakes on that list:
1. You never use a DS for the purpose of music, the sound quality is terrible.
2. A DS doesn't make a good sandwich, it makes a taco you fools!
Fernando Rocker @ Jun 18th 2008 7:24PM
The sound quality is bad because the speakers are tiny. But if you connect earphones, the sound quality is good.
Alisha Karabinus @ Jun 18th 2008 8:00PM
External speakers can fix that, too! Just as it says.
jcd @ Jun 18th 2008 8:36PM
TACO! TACO! TACO!
343 Guilty Fart @ Jun 18th 2008 7:55PM
I still have my nice blue Phat, but I'm tempted now to get a new one, now that there's a blue Lite.
Alisha Karabinus @ Jun 18th 2008 8:00PM
It's so pretty, too... I'd just bought a new one a few months before they revealed it. Sadness.
kataztrophy @ Jun 18th 2008 8:21PM
If you own an extra DS, give to the needy(me). At the end of the day, Everybody wins.
Keiichi @ Jun 18th 2008 8:33PM
Had my DS Phat stolen in 2006, so got a black Lite - and then karma smiled upon me earlier this year when I found a silver Lite on a coach back home from a convention at daft o'clock in the morning.

TROUSERED!
Easiest use: backup DS for when I can't recharge the black'un. Keeps my niece off me back an'all when she's staying over.
Still think the Cobalt/Black one's the coolest tho.
Brian Carlson @ Jun 18th 2008 9:11PM
I took mine apart...breaking it, sent it to Nintendo, got a new one :), but the 'touch' is kinda crappy, so it has been my 2nd alarm clock for the past 2 years. Hoo rah!
