Despite the missing units, the launch provides some interesting statistics. MGS4 moved over 12 times as many units as its closest competitor, Mario Kart Wii (38,000), and more than double that of the non-Metal Gear top 10 combined. Sorry, Snake, there's no place to hide in Japan.
MGS4 runs 12 circles around closest competitor first week in Japan

We already knew sales of Metal Gear Solid 4 were good for Japan, with Famitsu reporting earlier that 476,000 copies had been sold in the first few days of release. According to Media Create, that figure sneaks in an extra 11,000, as they're only tracking 465,000 in sales for the first week (via Gamasutra).

I think the game is great, but I felt like the game was too short.

I cleared it in just under 19 hours on my first play through, that seems about right for a stealth-action title. As in past MGS games, there are plenty of goodies to ear by replaying the title.

iag25,
If you got all your emblems on your first playthrough in under five hours, congrats, man. Strut your badself around wearing Big Bosses face.
But I doubt you did that. In fact, the average first playthrough is around 20 hours. 20 hours for a game isn't short. And most of those superlong games everyone loves typically has you revisiting previous locales or at least duplicated ones.
This is long for an action game. Maybe when you get out of high school and get a job, you'd realize how epicly retarded 100+ hour games are.

See Fidlious, this is what I mean by going too far sometimes. Calm down. That shit was not warranted.

Oh c'mon! As many burns as I get on some days I can't burn back? Let's put it this way, I marathoned this game as got 3 days out of it. This is playing one day for 12 hours straight.
This is beyond the typical action fare we are used to where games range between 4 (COD4, Heavenly Sword) and 8 (God of War 2, Assassin's Creed) hours long.
Someone complains about a 20 hour game and I can't burn them?!?

Nato, I took slight food breaks during the briefings.
Baby Sea Tuna, I heard someone say 8 was the average on Creed. I took 11, personally.

It's a great game that stands out from the rest of the crowd. Hopefully will move some PS3's. I kinda wonder what kind of effect this game would have had on 360 sales had it been released on both consoles.

Achievements and Xbox Live would probably win people over.GTA4 sold twice as many copies on 360 than it did on PS3 if I remember correctly.

I think it would sell like crazy. Just like GTAIV on 360 outsells the PS3 version. Too bad so sad and so on and so fourth.

Personally i think MGS4 is just like Halo 3 in that it's a good game but nowhere near as good as the hype suggests. Reading reviews these days the only one i trust is eurogamer and having now completed MGS4 their review is the most honest. Gamespot and IGN etc.. might aswell have their names changed to "We give games a 10 score because we are paid by them in sponsorship", they are now just like reading the offical magazines that give everything full marks just for being exclusive. MGO sucks and you know it. A few months later and this game will just be used by PS3 fanboys to defend the consoles lack of titles.

I have yet to see a 10 given out without a segment of this community crying foul. They liked the game. Accept it.
Reviews are not compiled by asking every gamer what they want to score it. So don't expect a game to get a 9.2 from IGN because you think its shy of a 10. There is no way for us all to agree on a game being good or not.

Mario kart sold more because of the rating. MGS4 is for 18 + and Mario Kart being E for All makes it available to everyone. If MGS4 had e For All rating (and retained its awesomeness) it wouldve smoked mario kart. Now i'm not bashing mario kart but just clarifying that this is the reason it did not sell as many titles as Mario kart.
