Pain gets some free content
Much like Ben Folds' solo project Fear of Pop, we hear a tale about a store where pain's for free, and if we ask for more, we don't pay our money and it's terrible pain and it's all for free. It turns out that there is such a place: The PlayStation Network, which will add some new content to PSN title Pain for free today.
As reported on Sony's official blog, the updates include:
As reported on Sony's official blog, the updates include:
- Jukebox Play – Play your own music in Pain. Yay!
- New Downtown Layouts – New configurations for downtown. Demolition and Block Party. You'll find out how to unlock these (playable in HORSE mode) by going to the trophy room.
- Multiple Character Selection – Play two-player games with different characters.
- Logo Skip – Skip the, uh, opening logo.

No, I'm not still playing PAIN, but this free DLC will likely change that for a little while.
Jw @ Jun 20th 2008 10:18AM
I was just playing it last night. Its a fun little game. My girlfriend loves it almost as much as Burnout Revenge.
daaWick @ Jun 19th 2008 8:48AM
Still play it when I have a few minutes and don't want to take the time to get into a real game. With added music control I think I will be even more likely to.

I kinda wish I had snagged this game over BEATS; especially since AUDIOSURF is so much better. :\
You know, given the nurse's pose, I should put her as a logo on the side of a model WWII bomber or something, LoL.
tmacairjordan87 @ Jun 19th 2008 8:59AM
I play it every now and then when I'm bored. I can only last about 30 minutes before I get bored with that though since there's only one level.
tmacairjordan87 @ Jun 19th 2008 9:11AM
someone who commented on the blog page had a brilliant idea. They should make a Metal Gear themed level with solid snake playable and maybe have Hayter record a couple quick lines for it. That would be the greatest thing this game could pull off.

Yeah, I just got the 80 gig bundle, so it had a free voucher. Like JW, my signifigant other digs it also.
syrik zero @ Jun 19th 2008 9:15AM
I just got that bundle too. I played this game for a bit, but then I wanted to play more MGS4...

Since I just picked up a PS3 last week I've been playing it when I'm not playing Metal Gear. It's fun and the additions will help. The game has been out so long I wonder why other areas haven't come out yet.
Good to see there will be two new layouts for downtown but I would rather see them add new areas. And I'm still not sure on paying .99 for each additional character. Perhaps if the game was $3.99 I would think about buying them.
Overall though, it's silly fun and my girlfriend also digs it. Not to mention I love going all Revenge of the Nerds 2 on the Hotel Coral Essex sign.

I'm still playing PAIN since it came free with the Playstation 3 I've only had for a week now.

"Logo Skip – Now you don't have to wait for the logo sequence to get right to the game."
Way to reinvent the wheel, the next update should include an option to pause... or maybe one to save progress, or how 'bout the ability to have an "options" menu...
and no, I am not still playing it.
Dan Davis @ Jun 19th 2008 10:20AM
I was gonna play it on my PSP last night, but Remote Play is not supported... I ended up playing High Stakes on the Vegas Strip instead.
This game could really benefit from Remote Play!
NATO_Duke @ Jun 19th 2008 10:24AM
I play it every once in a while when I don't feel like getting into a full game. The game serves only as a short distraction, but beyond that I would go nuts. There is just not enough variation.
Anni @ Jun 19th 2008 11:36AM
I don't care about any of this, I just want to talk about Ben Folds now!
McWeen @ Jun 19th 2008 12:06PM
I just got the 80gb last thursday and finished MGS4 last night so yes I will be still playing Pain.
Ubiqutous Oxymoron @ Jun 19th 2008 3:37PM
I play this when my 13 year old niece comes round, i coughed up the dough for the extra characters, my niece likes playing the pirate. and when the family are round much fun is had, don't really play it on my own.
MGS4 though is totally amazing..
klitorisaurus @ Jun 19th 2008 2:19PM
I'm waiting for the next level. Some how they can release an entire new Tony Hawk game every year yet I can't even get a new PAIN level after 6 months? Hopefully if it ever does come, it'll be the Theme Park that they tease on one of the building signs!
wired2thewall @ Jun 19th 2008 3:03PM
Play it about once every 2 weeks when my buddies come over.. we play "Horse" and the bowling modes quite a bit. Nothing quite like hitting your buddies with the "Manhole" giant prop when they are lining up for a perfect strike. Looking forward to the new free content - kudos to them!
Ward @ Jun 19th 2008 3:14PM
Fear of Pop? That's the most random reference I've heard in a long time. Nice job.
JeffM @ Jun 19th 2008 5:41PM
Ah yes- I agree I don't even know what Pain is- but a Fear of Pop reference will get me reading...
Justin McElroy @ Jun 24th 2008 7:00PM
Thank God for you guys.
sinai @ Jun 19th 2008 3:32PM
this is the worst type of game. the kind where the developers are out of touch with normal people and are constantly trying to find ways to be X-TREME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
that said, 5 minutes of this game made me want to scratch my eyes out in agony.
