Puzo's son sues Paramount for Godfather game money
Anthony Puzo (son of Godfather author Mario Puzo) is going to the mattresses with Paramount for neglecting to pay the Puzo estate the slice of profits from Godfather: The Game that they say they're owed. According to a lawsuit filed in Los Angeles yesterday, the family is claiming at least $1 million in damages.
Apparently, a deal was put in place in 1992 that Puzo would get a cut of Godfather audio-visual products due to the skimpy check a then-unknown Puzo got for signing over the rights to his book.

Well, I'm all for the original creator's rights to seeing the money his creation has made.

Yeah, I see your point, but the original creator was Mario Puzo and he's dead. I sure do hope that my daddy writes a book so that I can do nothing and get rich...

@WRE: Whether or not the son is a money-hungry scumbag is not the point. It should go to the author, and if the author is dead, then his family. It's just the principle of the thing. If my parent created a masterpiece and was not going to get the proper credit for it (even post mortem), I'd be pissed.

I'm thinking if he made the deal with Paramount for a share of the profits, he should likely only be able to sue Paramount for a share of the profits they made for licensing the godfather rights to the development company?
I'm guessing the development company paid maybe $1,000,000.00 to be able to put the words 'godfather' in their title and base it off the book/three movie world/theme?
So if he had a 1% agreement, he probably should be using paramount for $10,000.00 which then probably won't even cover the lawyer fees. Here's hoping the deal he signed got him at least 5-10%

Suing? That's kinda a wimpy way to settle this.

Um, should that read 1972? Puzo was hardly unknown by the time of Godfather III.
time @ Jun 20th 2008 8:34AM
"then unknown" meaning when they originally bought the rights before the first Godfather movie, not in 1992.
