Rumor: Dark Cloud 3 in the works for PS3
Cel-shading sages Level 5 are rumored to be working on a second PS3 project for Sony in addition to White Knight Story. Italian games magazine PSMania reports that Dark Cloud 3 is also in development by the Japanese company, using a new "open technology" engine code-named Kumo.
To this day, Dark Cloud 2 remains one of the PS2's best action RPG offerings, so a sequel would obviously be a very welcome addition to PS3's library. According to PSMania, said sequel will supposedly hit Japan in March '09. We'll believe it when we see it – as in actual screenshots – in Famitsu.

Maybe this time I will pick it up. I missed out on the first two.
light yagami @ Jun 19th 2008 8:45PM
please be true, i loved dark cloud 2 .a dark cloud 3 would help the ps3 library.
tmacairjordan87 @ Jun 19th 2008 8:45PM
Damn it's about time I've been wondering when level 5 was gonna get their asses in gear and start making this. I love both dark cloud's, and even though 2 is the better game, the first one just had this "feel" to it that puts it on top in my opinion.

Isn't this game too kiddie looking for you?
tmacairjordan87 @ Jun 19th 2008 8:51PM
Nope, because there's actual depth to this game.
Ninjakamster (PS360 FTW!) @ Jun 19th 2008 8:55PM
Oh god, please let this be TRUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ninjakamster (PS360 FTW!) @ Jun 19th 2008 8:56PM

Time to join the next generation, commando.
Noshino @ Jun 19th 2008 9:06PM
Unfortunately, I didn't have a chance to try the previous installments
Level 5's only 2 games that I have played are Jeanne D'Arc and Rogue Galaxy (over 200 hrs...), so it does sound interesting...
ViagraFiend @ Jun 20th 2008 10:28AM
Pick up Dark Cloud 2. You can get it cheap, so there is no excuse for not buying it. If you don't like it, I will change my avatar to a pink fairy.
Traced-Velocity @ Jun 19th 2008 9:20PM
More RPGs to the PS3 would definately be great.
HighFiveJesus @ Jun 19th 2008 9:35PM
i need to finish rogue galaxy. such a great game with awesome production values. then maybe i'll get this dark cloud 2 if it is so great.
danny. @ Jun 19th 2008 10:45PM
it's strange what games are system sellers for me (bought my 360 when I was excited about brutal legend news). After well over 100 hours of dark cloud (1 that is), this could put me over the edge on PS3.
Spin44 @ Jun 19th 2008 10:51PM
I want to try Dark Cloud but this review (http://www.expotv.com/videos/reviews/22/195/Dark-Cloud/235827) makes it look like a crappy rip off of Zelda Is it as good as Zelda?
joshua @ Jun 19th 2008 11:28PM
Wait, so you let 13 year old kids tell you what to buy?
Dark Cloud is no Zelda, but its a lot of fun. It has plenty of unique elements and is able to carve out a niche for itself. Honestly, I probably played DC1 (years ago) as much as I did Twilight Princess.
Sir Fidlious Wong (Justin T. McElroy Memorial Burn of the Day Award) @ Jun 19th 2008 11:29PM
That guy that made that review is as steeped in "village idiot" mode as humanly possible.
You can't compared Dark Cloud with Zelda. They are two drastically different games.
-Zelda has the dungeons designed from the get go and perfectly balanced with one solution.
-Dark Cloud is a randomly generated dungeon crawler
-Zelda has specific weapons with no crafting abilities.
-Dark Cloud is based entirely around building up, crafting, preserving, and leveling an array of weapons for you and your allies.
-Zelda has a set world and your purpose to quest is to get the triforce or other Sacred Foo.
-Dark Cloud's world is destroyed, your goal is to quest for all the people who were sealed away, buildings, etc and to rebuild the world.
-The bosses in Zelda were puzzles
-Many of the bosses in Dark Cloud were highly cinematic Quick Time Events
In other words, you simply cannot compare the two. They are drastically different and ANY comparisons are made by the same mouth breeding idiots who try to compare Actraiser to Castlevania.
Noshino @ Jun 20th 2008 12:47AM
uh, if Im not wrong, the expotv links are just spam...don't they get some crap for hits?...
Jacksons @ Jun 19th 2008 10:54PM
It's weird, I own both games and enjoyed both, but didn't finish either of them. The second one was going real well up until the volcanoish level, I saw the flowchart of like 30+ stages and I completely lost interest. That being said, I'd still pick up a #3.
BigD145 @ Jun 19th 2008 11:14PM
Noooooooooooo. Want it on PS2.
tmacairjordan87 @ Jun 20th 2008 10:19AM
As someone said earlier, time to join the next generation buddy.
Spirit @ Jun 20th 2008 12:00AM
Rogue Galaxy was a great game, but I never played one of the Dark Clouds. Should I give it a try?
tmacairjordan87 @ Jun 20th 2008 10:21AM
Well you can probably get both for like $5 each now so definitely. They're not that similar to Rogue Galaxy, since galaxy doesn't let you dungeon crawl and rebuild towns (the best part of the two dark cloud games IMO).
It's funny cause I actually quit Galaxy half way through cause I was getting so bored with it :\
ViagraFiend @ Jun 20th 2008 10:30AM
I did too tmac. It was a great game, it just kind of dragged about 3/4 of the way through it.
Synergistic @ Jun 20th 2008 8:44AM
Damnit! Now I'm going to have to get a PS3.
Kallah @ Jun 20th 2008 12:38PM
That rumor was originally published in July 2006; it's been reported a few times since then.
http://onaxis.blogspot.com/2007/10/psmania-dark-cloud-3-coming-exclusively.html - scan with relevant cover here, date at bottom.
As far as I know, Level-5 has never made a release date announcement that far in advance; IGN's asked about this several times and recieved no real answer.
From what I can make out of the Rogue Galaxy Design Book, the game that was going to be Dark Cloud 3 turned into Rogue Galaxy instead.
fabio miarelli @ Jun 23rd 2008 11:59AM
real fake guys. it’s a photoshopped scan… don’t u see the font is absloutely different? the truth is, the original news was about a boxing game for psp and not about a dark cloud 3 launch date. this guy covered the original with his stuff. if you want, i can give you a JPG of the original page featured in PSMANIA issue 71 as of februrary 2007, page 011. trust me and spread this upadte plz.
