wouldn't a racing wheel be more precise and cheaper?...

Than buying the components? Probably. But if you already have a balance board and wheel all you need is a $5 bluetooth adapter.

Lots of multiple posts today...

I think some devs were thinking of using the board as a gas/brake pedal set. I'd have to try it before knocking it - it seems like it'd feel weird, but who knows.

Pretty cool stuff for some homebrew. Obviously a PC Steering wheel is cheaper, but if you bought Kart and Wii Fit, then this would be fun to try and your investment's already been made.

That's sick! Too bad I couldn't get my Wiimote connected last time I tried. Might be worth attempting again, though.

well, Thanks for the video.

if I want to race on the sideline instead of in the middle of the road, I might give this a try.

I was thinking they could've done this in Mario Kart. Then I realized there's no reason for brakes in it.
The only reason it looks imprecise is because this wasn't programmed as well as Mario Kart. He's not even steering like you would in Mario Kart. I'm sure if this was done by a real developer, this could be a valid control input for a future Wii game. Plus we'd have analog acceleration.

This is about the same stand alone as a wheel and paddles (80 for wiifit? + $40 for Wiimote + $5 for wheel? + $15 for bluetooth = $140) and great if you already have these

You would think someone who has the technical ability to turn a Wii Wheel and Balance Board into a Wheel+Pedals controller knows how to properly use a widescreen television.

I didn't use a television to make this video. I captured the video directly from a laptop with another computer.

I admit that sometimes I'm pressed for time and can't get set up to film or capture at the standards I've set for myself.

y'know, the only reason I haven't rigged this up myself already is because I haven't gotten Wii Fit yet. Using the balance board as the pedal area has been bouncing around the internets ever since it was shown at E3.

Personally, I'd like to see a version of this that includes a stand for the nunchuk to be used as a stick shift. Might be better to just use a second wiimote though, to avoid the wires.

A compatible Bluetooth adapter and a Windows PC. There's a list of compatible Bluetooth adapters here:

@...Jan...
The apparent flaws in the steering are due to my own poor performance, and not any flaws in the script. I've used this script to get gold medals in Trackmania, which, if you've ever played it, you know takes precision.

Like with most of my videos, I'm positioning myself abnormally in order to get the controllers in view of the camera. If I play in a normal, relaxed posture, I perform much better. It also helps to have the screen in front of you instead of next to you on the couch.

At least you can say that the balance board has more uses outside of a driving peripheral.
