I was ready to give up on Guitar Hero after the disappointment of GH3 and the brand oversaturation from GH:Aerosmith and GH:Metallica, but I have to admit, World Tour looks pretty sweet. I'll probably pick this one up.

How are you supposed to compose songs exactly? The GH controllers only have 5 notes?

I probably won't buy this game just because I have too many fake plastic instruments already... Plus my wallet can't handle the strain of multiple games that cost nearly as much as consoles...

I really enjoy the singing part of Rock Band (the songs that I like), so if the set list for this GH is awesome and I can use any mic, I might get this. I don't care about another set of drums or another guitar. Will GH3 guitar work with this game?

I've given up on trying to defend Guitar Hero.

Not because they have done wrong with this announcement, actually the whole Wii = PS3 + 360 line gave me more respect for them (in the IGN article), but because this Harmonix fanboyism is getting out of control. It's not worth defending anymore. *just starts drowning it out while waiting for his non-gimped Wii version of GH4*

so have I. I state facts then people get pissed b/c they cant handle the truth ( if you don't believe me go read the Guitar Hero:4 game informer) so I will just take my complete version of Guitar Hero:WT and tell Harmonix to suck it b/c i am not buying a gimped game.

Well, I have to admit the game is steadily looking better and better as time passes.

The new guitar... eh. I don't care for it as long as it doesn't have a detachable neck so it doesn't have any button problems (RIP my GH3 Les Paul). I'm guessing it won't *hopefully* seeing that it has a sliding sensor for effects, which in my opinion, will look very gimmicky if it isn't used for the thing that the whammy is used by guitar professionals: get the star power out of the notes.

So far, I like the drums' design because it looks similar than that of an electronic drumset, and the round bass add-on looks nice, despite being a gimmick for the drums, but at least not as gimmicky as that slide. Besides, silent drumset and fully wireless gives it A LOT of brawnie points.

And the song creator looks pretty sweet. So I can make my own songs without importing music from my 360? That's nice, but no vocals might make it a double edged addition, seeing that the mike will be the most limited item here, and for many more reasons other than legal song copyrights.

Overall, I might get it, I might not. It looks pretty sweet so far, with Sublime, Eagles and Van Halen on the set list. However, if Activision has the intelligence to add at least one song from Opeth, Symphony X or Rhapsody of Fire to the game, then it will be an instant buy from me.

That's great and all but I would really rather just have the guitar without all the other peripherals. It's not that I don't want to have the drums and mic I just don't have room for them, so I guess I'm out of the loop until they for some strange reason decide to go back to just the guitar; which I think would be nice considering it is called GUITAR Hero. Rant complete.

The House of Blues?! How fun. This game has sooo many improvements and keeps sounding better and better. I wanna use the guitar.... I was in an Activision focus group for this game, but used the old guitar controllers =( World Tour might replace Rock Band in my household...!

The peripherals seem neat. Mean, I wish Harmonix and RedOctane could get back together (and Activision went off and died in some corner). Then we'd have the ultimate music game.

Argh...I hate this. I mean, I love Rock Band so much, and I love it a vast amount more than GH3. However, GH:WT (I guess that's the new short hand) has Everlong. Jeeezzzz.

This happens every time. They just have those few songs that I really want, and I buy the game. Now I just need Rock Band to help me out, and get Everlong in their game. I would be saved.

Oh, and, without wanting to (but I'm probably going to) sound like a dick, you could always use the Back/Select button to "deploy" star power. I think a few people forgot when the start and back buttons on the 360 GH2 guitar were so god damn small.

This is definitely a wait-and-see thing for me. I want to see some thoughts from reviewers actually playing it, without the extremely guided tour. It's probably way too soon for that, yet, so I'm just trying not to be annoyed by the Activision marketing war machine.

"The guitars get the most options (even down to the artwork on the neck and different headstocks), with the base up for customization as well."

Bases are for playing ball, basses are for playing music. :)

You got it right for "bass drum" but not "bass guitar"? See the connection between the two?

Sorry...I guess I'm a music fanboy. :D

@zeldazeppelin:

Activision is a publisher. They have absolutely nothing to do with actually making the game. They do the manufacturing, promotion, distribution, etc.
Their concern is not to facilitate artistic expression and/or give gamers what they really want, but simply - to make money.

Harmonix is a developer. The developer "makes" the game. They come up with all of the ideas and do all of the coding, sometimes working for 24+ hours straight to meet a deadline.

If anyone has the right to claim a game as their own...it is the developer not the publisher, despite the fact that publishers usually end having control over the games because they have more money and power than the devs.

It is very similar to the way the music industry works. The bands are the artists, they make the music. But the record company usually owns all of the rights to the music unless the band gets a good contract.

This is not a very fair system in either industry, games or music. The people with the talent without which the "products" would not be possible get the worst end of the deal. Unfortunately, this system is necessary as most devs/bands do not have the money or know-how to get their art, be it a game or an album, out to people around the world. This require a lot of money.

Hopefully we will continue to see growth in electronic distribution, because that is the only thing that is going to change things.

Also (and I shouldn't have to explain this to you...), the reason people are upset with you and saying that you are being rude or whatever is not because of WHAT you are saying but HOW you are saying it. You could have easily said what you wanted to say without resorting to vulgarity (there are kids that visit this site, you know...) and insults, but you chose to be rude instead.

Chill out, ok? There's no reason for hostility...we are only discussing video games here. I love them, sure, but they aren't so important that you should get angry over a difference of opinion.

The point I'm trying to make is this:

Harmonix technically created both GH & RB. Neversoft can only really lay claim to GH3 and the new ones that are coming out, which - as many others have pointed out - are just re-hashes of Harmonix's games with slight differences which are better or worse depending on your preferences.

Personally I enjoy both GH & RB and luckily, my girlfriend does too. She bought RB and now that I know more about GH4, I think I'll buy that rig. It doesn't feel like we're wasting as much money if I think of it like that... ;)

ok so the Wii version of the drum-set requires you to plug in a Wii Remote as seen in the pictures. Think this will be all the battery power the drums require or will there be somewhere else on the kit where you put in batteries? If they can have the kit run off of 2 AAs for hours then the set is definitely worth it

The reason the GH 3 controller works with Rockband has to do with the fact all Xbox 360 controllers must be compatible with all games. You can play Halo with a rockband guitar, but it won't be easy. Microsoft has had this policy around for a long time, along with the wireless technology being proprietary, which is why it took so damn long to get a wireless controller for the 360 for guiter hero.

Don't expect the GH4 controllers to work with either RB1 or 2, and visa versa. Rockband on 360 is the only game of the genre that I am aware of that supports all of the peripherals, but I think you can use the GH3 controller on RB on the PS3, correct me if I'm wrong.

Bottom line, you will most likely need to purchase the entire f-ing set to play GH4 fully. At least, that's what history seems to indicate.

I don't get people or "Fanboys". There's really even no need to argue or try to say anything different then what they think already. All the RB fanboys are just going to put down anything GH no matter what. To me it just seems like the same old basic trend that RB is now the "cool/underground/not to popular yet that can still be liked" product/group, so all them owners of just RB will thrash GH for anything because GH is now the one's that "Sold Out" because technically they're more popular or more in with the casual gamers now where as the people who got RB early on went and spent alot of money for the whole set while the casual crowd got interested in GH and it's cheaper price point. I know that's what happened to me because hearing of RB and GH3 plus seeing all the vids on youtube about the older GH games is what started to get me interested in this genere of gaming.

So to start of with I got GH3 and now I'm hooked and enjoy these games. I "rented" RB just to try and it was OK but I still didn't want to spend all the money for it, yet I still never went and trashed it or put it down cause of what company makes/owns it or whatever. I'm interested in GH:A just because its new tracks and music. Then you have all the RB fanboys posting about how they are so "gratefull" for getting RB because they can supposedly xfer their DLC in RB to RB2, but OH NO! Let's crap all over GH3 & GH:A and or Activision because you can't use your GH3 DLC on GH:A.. Which I still can't figure out why that's such a big deal? I made a post about it on a different story but didn't realize it was basicaly a dead story now and unlike a message forum this site doesnt "bump" up the stories with new post's so I'll just paste what I did for that concerning the whole GH3 & GH:A DLC issue here --->

Most of you guys are idiots along with Joystiq. You guys make it sound like when GH:A comes out then you can no longer play GH3 anymore? Are you guys that freaken lazy that you can't get up and change the disc to play the DLC you purchased in GH3? I know I wouldn't want to sell or trade GH3 in because of the stuff purchased for it already. You guys make it seem like once the new game comes out you just HAVE to get rid of GH3 and or never play it again. Which I'm pretty sure most of you are all under 18/16 and don't buy your games with your own money instead it's what mommy and daddy buy you so your perfectly fine for trading in a $60-100 game in for not even half what you paid for since it's not your money you spent on it.

Once you guys start buying your games then you'll see how much of a waste it is to be trading in your games. Even if you trade it in right away you get shit compared to what you paid for it. Slowly you'll start to see your collection grow because you'll understand the value you paid for something with your money and don't want to be giving it away for hardly anything.

So I have no problem with this. I was going to buy another guitar so my kids could play together eventually, this is just better since both guitars will be able to be used on both GH3 and GH:A, plus I'll still have GH3 so if I want to play those tracks or the DLC then I can just put GH3 in and everything is still there. I and no one else is losing their GH3 DLC once you put GH:A into your console... ahhh, the joys of the internet and little kids being on it bitching all the time about nothing...
----------------------------------------------------

I was close on getting RB though because of the whole set up, but now hearing how the new GH game will have all this plus getting the GH:Metallica then I might as well just stay with this brand since at least I'll know that by the time GH:M comes out then I just have to buy the game and not the whole set up (unless of course they include something that's just awesome/cool that makes me want to get the whole set) yet if there's something RB does that I would like/enjoy then I might get that even if I have to get a whole new set up. I'm not even trying to say I have all this money to go and do that because I dont. I have to save up some here and there but start to do that when I know there's something that is coming out that I want and it cost's a pretty penny, and also wait to see how it does before getting right away. So while I'm waiting for GH:WT I'm still reading about it and see how it does review/rating wise (even though I know the critics/editor/reviewers are also certain Fanboys and will try to compare or drag it down more then it should be just cause they like the "other" game/brand more.

But all this on the internet is just the same as the console fanboys. Have to weed through all the post's for the comments for people that actually care about the game and not the fanboys just coming to talk trash about it. Usually why I try to stay away from posting to much. Also like other have mentioned that it's good we have RB because if they never came around then it might have not inspired GH makers to do something new/better and that's why it's good for competition.

I'll most likely just buy a guitar pack or something. Rock Band is fun but I get sick of it cause it's all my friends want to do when they come over, and it just becomes the party go-to thing. I suck at drums anyway. (It's true.)
