New EGM promises Killzone 2 blowout
The fine bunch of gaming journos at Electronic Gaming Monthly have themselves quite a cover this month. It's covered in Helghast, and that can only mean one thing: oodles of Killzone 2 coverage. The game hasn't been seen for over a month now, and, even then, it was a lot of what we'd already seen in video form ... only playable. With E3 just around the corner, EGM is taking the wraps off more of the game, promising to divulge "everything you need to know about PS3's killer app." More killer than Metal Gear Solid 4? We're all

I hear the trailers for this game will have many features!

"Hiigh-waaaay-to-the - daaanger zooone."
Ooh, Mercenaries 2! Neatoflakes.

I am interested what surprises they hold. Gurreilla is not a bad develoer really. Killzone on PS2 was good despite its glaring flaws due to the technical limitaitons of the system. Never to mention that they developed Killzone : Liberation. One of greatest PSP games, So I am looking forward to this one.
rodrigo @ Jun 20th 2008 6:49AM
if it plays like it looks yea we will have another killer app for the ps3. i want this game so bad.
Jtenma @ Jun 20th 2008 7:08AM
Personally, I think any comparison to Killzone 1 would just be wrong now. Seeing as how they are trying to reinvent the series (at least on consoles) again.
Why do people bring up Killzone 1 all the time? You know this game probably (most likely) wont even play the same.
I guess we'll have to wait and see how this turns out...
Tim The Enchanter @ Jun 20th 2008 11:36AM
Probably because this is Killzone 2. I mean, what else would you compare it to?
The first one seemed too ambitious for the PS2's capabilities, let's hope this one pushes the PS3, but doesnt surpass them.
Douglas @ Jun 23rd 2008 5:33PM
I couldn't agree more. I can think of one franchise that made a complete 180 in one game..... cough.....Call Of Duty 4...cough......

I'm more interested in the UFC game. The Dreamcast UFC game was pretty fun.
Joeshie @ Jun 20th 2008 9:05AM
I really don't understand this. You would have thought that people had learned after Killzone was such a disappointment, but whatever.
Hype up games that don't deserve it.
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread) @ Jun 20th 2008 10:38AM
well there is nothing wrong with being optimistic. i didnt even like the first one. i do know that Sony and GG are pouring alot of money and time into this one though so im rooting for it.
it could tank like the first one, or it could be the best thing since sliced bread. who really knows though until it is actually released? im not just gonna write it off though just because the first one sucked, i mean KZ: Liberation on PSP was good and it was from the same people.

Have to agree, but then, think about it, while Killzone 1 may have been a flop, I can only assume Guerilla learnt from thier mistakes.
Look at Bungie, they were unheard of by many none hardcore gamers until Halo came around, which meant they learnt from thier mistakes. Theres no such thing as impossible.
Martez @ Jun 20th 2008 1:42PM
Killzone was super-flawed, but I still enjoyed the premise and atmosphere and felt it had promise. I'm very interested in how K2 will turn out.
Zoesch @ Jun 20th 2008 3:04PM
Go play KZ1 on a PS3, without the framerate drops it's actually a good game, Killzone: Liberation was surprisingly a very good game, so I see a chance for Guerilla to make an excellent game provided they don't aim for the stars.
offday @ Jun 20th 2008 9:31AM
I can't wait for this to be released, get a 4, and then hear all the PS3 guys deny that they were ever excited about it. It's going to be haze all over again.
Maverick Saturn @ Jun 20th 2008 11:57AM
Doubt it will get a four unless the flaws in it are sooo bad they make us cry with agony, the trailer alone is worthy of a 7 for the time being, Haze unfortunatly didn't look too exciting in the trailers, and even worse in the demo, so its only expected to be shite in the real game.
mj @ Jun 20th 2008 9:47AM
It's time to say that ONLY SONY has the balls to hype up sequels to failures. Their PR machine is nigh unstoppable. MS distanced itself from mechwarrior, crimson skies, blinx, etc. Sony doubles down almost every time.
Dark Cloud was no Zelda, POOF DARK CLOUD 2 IS AWESOME. Jak and Dexter is going to be like GTA! Ratchet and Clank is going to take on Halo! The Getaway is GTA for Europeans!
And Sony thrives on this because the game press just laps it up.
Btw, this is the THIRD Sony-developed halo-killer game for the ps3 (Resistance, Socom, Killzone). So this time next year, the ps3 will have potentially 4 AAA fps (3 above plus COD4) titles and only one AAA RPG (FFXIII). Craaaazy.
Kevin @ Jun 20th 2008 10:00AM
don't worry man, POOF! dark cloud 3 should be out by then.
Alex @ Jun 20th 2008 11:58AM
Your avatar reminds me of the picture for Condemned savegames on the 360.
Whoops, no anti-PS3-pro-360 pun intended.
Martez @ Jun 20th 2008 1:45PM
Halo-killer is subjective. I don't like Halo, so there's nothing to kill. I think SOCOM is a much better game. I'm not so sure Sony ever made "halo-killer" claims (though I welcome a source if anyone has one!), I think that's bullshit that the media plays up. And honestly, if the media starts hyping your game up in that manner, are you really going to do anything to deny it? :P
Zoesch @ Jun 20th 2008 3:01PM
It's a shame since Mechwarrior and Crimson Skies were two of the best games on the original XBox, which means Microsoft just pandered to the majority of idiots (Like yourself) that cried "WUNT MOER HALOES!"
juju187 @ Jun 20th 2008 9:53AM
is this supposed to be the halo "KILLER" again...
lulz>?
Vidikron (FU) @ Jun 20th 2008 10:07AM
The funny thing I never hear anyone say that expect in statements like you just made.
Maverick Saturn @ Jun 20th 2008 12:02PM
Yaknow, only the magazine writers write that crap about every shoot-em-up, I dun even know why we are comparing to Halo, we should be saying Crysis or COD4 killer now, Halo 3 was really nothing special, its only got the credibility because of the hypse surrounding it and the multiplayer aspect, but its difficult to put Halo next to Crysis and say the graphics compare, or next to COD4 / Gears and say the action compares, or next to Bioshock and say the plot is astounding, cos really, it has nothing on any of them, its running on Halofan-oil, microsoft-marketing and multiplayer options said to surpass anything in history.
deaftly @ Jun 20th 2008 11:43AM
Killzone haha
BlackBeltJones @ Jun 20th 2008 1:04PM
I'm more interested in the new Brutal Legend info.
Overgauss @ Jun 20th 2008 10:03PM
Wait. When did EGM become relevant? They don't even complete games they review or sufficiently play them long enough to unlock features they claim the game doesn't have.
It's great for toilet reading for sure but that's about it.
Well props to Quartermann. He has always rocked and I expect him to continue doing so.
Overgauss @ Jun 20th 2008 10:06PM
@Zoesch Dai Senryaku on the Xbox and Phantom Dust are two more totally under appreciated titles imo.
e @ Jun 21st 2008 3:43PM
the ps3 library is getting badass.
