The artist known as Pixeloo delivers once again with his "real" rendition of Grand Theft Auto IV antihero Niko Bellic. Thankfully, Niko's character design is that of a standard human, so we don't get the abomination of Pixeloo's not-safe-for-sanity "Real Mario."
The artist says he did the piece for Official Playstation Magazine UK's latest issue. Another impressive piece by Pixeloo, and unlike Real Mario, the Real Niko won't cause us to wake up screaming for two weeks and shudder every time we even think about the portly plumber.

I'd rather have a Saria from OoT. It just sounds cool, not that I'm biased or anything.

And that's exactly why chicks on Cosmopolitan look that hot.

That's what all the female/male readers of magazines need to realize: there is no photo of any celebrity or model piece that is untouched. Girls need to realize they are basing their ideals off of Photoshop jobs and guys need to start appreciating natural beauty. Just sayin'. ;)

Nintendo needs to use the real Mario pic for a Mario style sandbox game. Think GTA in the mushroom kingdom.

Grand Theft Kart is what they will announce at E3. You will run around as realistic Mario or Luigi and steal go-karts through out mushroom kingdom. There will be a koopa gang, a wart gang, and a smithy gang from mario rpg. It should be good.

Pretty good. I always thought of Niko as being a lot older than he appears here though...

Yeah, his character modeling in GTA makes him look well over 40 or even into his 50s. Especially in close ups. He even has that tired slouch and beer belly. When I found out he was supposed to be 35, I was like, "No way!"

Wait, Niko Bellic is really Sylar?

Awesome rendition! He actually looks age-appropriate now. I especially love the detail on his left eyebrow. You can tell he's been through some rough times. He's actually kind of handsome. ;)

Okay, now what about Q*bert?

Niko looks pretty good but this isn't cool or impressive to me. I think Pixeloo should stick to non-realistic characters, like Homer, Jessica Rabbit or Mario.

I wonder what type of program he uses?

His chin's not quite long/wide or square enough

I feel like his left eye (on our right) looks like it's looking in a different direction than his right eye. Anyone else notice that?

was this rendition really necessary?

Not bad, but I thought Niko was supposed to have stubble not a beard like that, it looks too thick.
Also his forehead is too big and the lines from his nose to his mouth are really wonky.
That and it doesn't really look like him. It looks like some other white guy dressed up trying to look like him.
Sorry. Art snob. XD

You know what I thought was a good, realistic depiction of Niko Bellic? The one in the game.
Seriously, this was more impressive with characters that actually needed it.

Looks like a little less bald Jason Statham. Oh there you go, GTA IV the movie, there's your lead

I think it still looks like a render in comparison to his other works. And I would like to second the Earthworm Jim idea and would like to throw in a suggestion for MegaMan and Dhalsim.

Just photoshop. There's videos of him making pictures on Youtube if you look for them.

His lips look too low. And he's too skinny. Nico is a little thicker/older at the start of GTAIV (remember his poochy belly in the track suit?)
I agree, totally uncalled for.

Man, this is freaking me out. I know that my brain knew it wasn't a real photograph the instant I saw it, but as I look closely at the picture, I can't figure out exactly what tipped me off subconsciously. There's tons of detail but something gave it away as CG and I haven't a clue what it was. Damn you, uncanny valley!
