See gameplay video from Deadliest Catch
Be sure to check out the video below the jump wherein the boat's captain preemptively berates you before you go to pick up a fellow crabber from a grocery run. See what we're saying? It's all in the details.

LOL. I agree'd with you that it didn't look that bad graphic wise, that is until the dumped out the crabs onto the sorting table. That looked horrible!
DangerMouse @ Jun 20th 2008 7:57PM
Haha. I had to sit through the whole damn video for that, but it was worth it.
AwesomeTown @ Jun 20th 2008 8:13PM
I found that extremely funny. Like REALLY funny. Crab Effects = Awesome.
Hashbrown Hunter @ Jun 21st 2008 5:37AM
GIANT ENEMY CRABS! ATTACK IT'S WEAKPOINT FOR MASSIVE DAMAGE!
embassy @ Jun 21st 2008 6:20AM
so we can all agree, this game has really bad crabs.
The Nige @ Jun 20th 2008 7:12PM
I picked this up being a fan of the show. Very much a sim as you have to drop and pick up the crab pots in real-time...thankfully there is fast-time for travelling.
Dash @ Jun 20th 2008 7:13PM
Looks nice, like the show, but it just seems too damn boring to me.
phobic99 @ Jun 20th 2008 7:37PM
I agree. I recently starting watching the show and it's really entertaining... unlike the videos of this game.
I know they are trying to cash in but seriously. Why?
Nick Ritch @ Jun 21st 2008 12:42AM
I also agree. It's not my kind of game but way better than I could ever imagine it would be. The sim approach is much better than the weird mini games i thought they might try to push off on the unknowing fans of the show.
Also the crab effects were spot on realistic.
RoboChamp @ Jun 20th 2008 7:26PM
Okay, I'll ask. Can you overturn the boat?
&rew @ Jun 20th 2008 7:33PM
Sorry in advance,
Catching crabs? bow chicka wow wow
I watched RVB too much.
Chase @ Jun 20th 2008 7:45PM
I hear if you go out far enough you get a glimpse of a mysterious oil tanker somewhere out in the mid-Atlantic surrounded by cargo ships marked "PRETZEL FLIPS" and "STEED".
onerythym @ Jun 20th 2008 9:16PM
I doubt you can go to the atlantic. The whole point of the show is alaskan fishing. Bering sea. Pacific ocean... maybe. The atlantic is a bajillion miles away.
Chase @ Jun 20th 2008 11:35PM
You're new here, so I'll excuse your ignorance.
Here:

Enjoy!
onerythym @ Jun 25th 2008 9:22PM
oh, i see. I joke thats only funny if you saw the picture post to a podcast episode... Im totally ignorant for not catching that witty reference.
(its prodably a great podcast, but ive got way to many subscribed now. maybe I should delete some shows and subscribe.)
but still, the show/game is about the Bering Sea... and i guess im ignorant one?
LordChimp @ Jun 20th 2008 7:46PM
Can you literally catch crabs?
Obie @ Jun 20th 2008 7:46PM
Holy crap, or Holy Crab?
That looked boring, the show was the best when those fishermen got powned by the equipment and rough waves....now lets see some of THAT gameplay!
DangerMouse @ Jun 20th 2008 7:52PM
Looks like a SegaCD game. Live-action video at a 1/4 of the screen size.
Titanium_Orchid @ Jun 20th 2008 7:53PM
Who would this possibly appeal to?
kataztrophy @ Jun 20th 2008 9:20PM
The same people who picked up the American Chopper game, and the Monster Garage game.
Evan @ Jun 20th 2008 11:21PM
I love the show, and I will probably pick this up. Northwestern FTW!
Sean @ Jun 20th 2008 7:54PM
Press A to fire the greenhorn for dragging his ass.
Titanium_Orchid @ Jun 20th 2008 8:00PM
I take my last comment back. Just watched the second video.
The boat-driving-sim aspect looks like it could be entertaining for some people.
I'm guessing that the developers will not emphasize the driving/navigation parts enough though.
I predict a score between 62-75/100
DangerMouse @ Jun 20th 2008 8:37PM
I'd say reviewers will be f1.5hing for a low score.
theturtle363 @ Jun 20th 2008 8:09PM
I always feel like the fisherman must think we're pussies.
Trickob @ Jun 20th 2008 8:38PM
excuse my ego but I totally called this...
http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/27/deadliest-catch-game-in-the-works/#c10710768
Trickob @ Jun 20th 2008 9:14PM
is Bon Jovi an unlockable character? I'd like to see his reaction to how slippery the deck is when wet...
*collective groan*
weaszel @ Jun 20th 2008 9:56PM
Actually, I think Joystiq called it.
All you did was write a pretty obvious comment about a game that everybody already knew was being made.
Trickob @ Jun 21st 2008 2:59AM
???
I think you replied to the wrong comment
HighFiveJesus @ Jun 20th 2008 8:57PM
crab..people.. crab..people.
Arttemis @ Jun 20th 2008 9:39PM
Crab battle!
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ Jun 20th 2008 9:22PM
They better not retail it at full price. And I was expecting a little bit more storms.
Anyways, I can't find the massive damage weak spots on those giant enemy crabs.
CubeGuy @ Jun 20th 2008 9:30PM
Oh god... It's 3DO all over again...
rokobungi @ Jun 20th 2008 10:36PM
it was like a crab pancake when they came out of the pot.
hmmmm.. crab pancake yummy!
otaking241 @ Jun 20th 2008 10:49PM
God, this makes me think of the NES game Space Shuttle Project, in which the very exciting concept of SPACE FLIGHT was reduced to a series of mindless mini-games. How much more boring can you make CRAB FISHING?
Ranus Studios @ Jun 20th 2008 11:18PM
Being quite familiar with the show, I can safely say that this is a terrible idea for a game. Unfortunately I will have to try very hard to resist it, as I have a giant man-crush on Edgar.
Chigurh @ Jun 20th 2008 11:42PM
MGS4 killer right here folks.
GOTY
Now if they can only bring Ice Road Truckers to the next gen.
Jokes aside, the shows are great, but I think the demographic for the games are inbred trailer trash.
Capgun @ Jun 20th 2008 11:42PM
Meh, I'll probablly give it at least a rent. It doesn't look THAT terrible.
Guzzie @ Jun 20th 2008 11:58PM
No Genji "Giant Enemy Crab" comments?
Color me disappointed Joystiq.
embassy @ Jun 21st 2008 3:25AM
this game needs less catching, and far more deading.
Maverick Saturn @ Jun 21st 2008 5:02AM
+1 for innovation and graphics
-1 for my interest level being sustained
-1 for crabs graphics
+1 for immersive atmosphere
Looks like a nice game, although its not exactly my cup of tea, reminds me ship simulator. Do they have stormy weather effects by any chance? With waves te size of houses etc, otherwise the name woukdn't go down well considering the TV series has them going on extremely dangerous voyages to get crabs and fish.
Versus The Moose @ Jun 21st 2008 5:30AM
I love the show; I am from a fishing town, can relate quite well to the people. I will pick-up the game when it sells for $30, looks decent.
Jerk Face @ Jun 21st 2008 11:06AM
The Moose here raises a good point; do we know how much this will cost? Because if it's going for the full 60 bucks there is no way in the blackest Hell I am going to buy it.
But if it were 30? I might at least think about it.
beloved console @ Jun 21st 2008 4:12PM
"Um, right now, we're on a collision course with 'im"
They really let that get through.
caserb @ Jun 21st 2008 4:36PM
Seriously?
....Seriously?!?
