Yeah... there's a lot of customization with the new MGO and larger maps; but I like the old MGS3-MGO better than the one that came with MGS4. The despite map size, they were better designed & varied more(unless you're picking the stage, expect to play 'Midtown Maelstrom'... A LOT), the characters didn't feel so "brick-in-the-wall" insipid, and I swear Konami's going to get my optometrist's bill for using that damned "DEAD RISING"-inspired narrow font at lowest size possible. And it's in that blasted digital neon orange font too! LoL

whole heartedly agree about the font, I play on a 32" 720P HDTV and sit about 5'-6' away and the text is downright impossible to read. I dont know what gun I just picked up or how many DP I got from it just because I cant read that 2 pt font

I'm still on the fence about MGO. I played a bit more of it last night and while it was fun, it feels like the whole concept is still pretty immature in its execution. Sony, and Konami in this case, need to iron out the online experience and make it more seamless for the end user. THis interface was a bit clusmy and some match settings that have become the norm of XBox live games were missing. Namely the whole skills system and improving based on end of round stats. I had a hard time improving (ranking up) my character last night because the match host kept quitting out of the session when their team was losing in the last minute.

On the flip side, at least on Sony's online service I don't have some 12 year old sreaming at me that I'm a homosexual minority (in more colorful language mind you).

I have a similar experience with MGO, I have played for all of 1 hour on it, but I am not the biggst MP fan to begin with, and COD4 has me so spoiled that I unfairly compare everything to it and everything falls short.

MGO is fun as hell. It has a quirkey system thats all Metal Gear. I'll admit there is a learning curve. And I myself haven't quite past the mentioned curve, but between locking, box canceling, and dancing I can't get enough of MGO.

Mastering those concepts alone will keep me occupied for a while.

umm...yeah, same goes for Halo3. Can't tell you how many people haven't bothered playing the campaign mode and only play online matches...hell, it's got online co-op, the one thing I wish the original 2 games had. weirdos.

After MGS3 Online...and having played MGO BETA and the completed version......

My verdict: a big MEH.

Kojima's team should focus on something else....like a new PSYCHONAUTS game.

I'd give MGO a 6/10. They shouldn't have tried to bring the Metal Gear singleplayer mechanics so faithfully over to a multiplayer setting. Just doesn't work out. Everything was designed with a "human player vs AI opponents" mindset in Metal Gear. To just copy and paste all of that into a multiplayer game has bad results.

For example, is it really fun to be tranquilized, lying there on the floor? Not really.

Plus, MGO doesn't play into any of Metal Gear's strengths. A good multiplayer mode would have maybe 2-4 players trying to reach a goal before the other players do, all while avoiding/fighting loads of enemy AI. MGS has been a "PvE" game for so long, going directly "PvP" just ain't a good fit..
