Star Wars Retrospective: Episode V marches off to war
It's been nearly two months since the last installment in GameTrailers' look back at the catalog of games based off of George Lucas' magnum opus. The series returns today with the crackle of blaster fire, the hum of a recently activated AT-AT, the whistle of an armed thermal detonator -- you see, all the games featured in this episode focus on those titles that let you relive the film's major battles. From RTS classics like Galactic Battlegrounds and Empire at War, to the best-selling Star Wars game of all time, Star Wars: Battlefront 2, we can't help but get misty-eyed recalling some of our great galactic campaigns. We just... we lost so many good men on Kashyyyk...

Which one is better?
The Millenium Falcon or the Enterprise?
Ghen @ Jun 22nd 2008 12:45PM
Depends on your definition. The enterprise is a much much larger ship with better shields, better weapons, better living quarters/entertainment, and a full time crew besides just a pilot/co-pilot.
So unless you're asking which one is 'cooler' the only logical choice is the enterprise.
Fernando Rocker @ Jun 22nd 2008 1:05PM
Oh I see... nice.
=p

I'm pretty sure the Falcon is better. Has the Enterprise ever ran the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs? I don't think so.
Arttemis @ Jun 22nd 2008 1:33PM
It really depends on which Enterprise you're referring to.
The pre-Federation NX-01 (ST:Enterprise), the NCC-1701 Constitution class (ST:TOS), NCC-1701-D Galaxy class (ST:TNG), NCC-1701-E Sovereign (ST:TNG movies).
Each had substantially different shielding, phaser power, and torpedo technology.
Fernando Rocker @ Jun 22nd 2008 1:47PM
Well... the Falcon sure is faster than any model of the Enterprise.
Besides, the Falcon was pursued by a Star Destroyer, and the Destroyer could not defeat the Falcon.

fucking bunch of geeks.

Falcon FTW.

The only kinds of people that would ponder over this issue are geeks and otakus.
FSK405K @ Jun 22nd 2008 3:26PM
Isn't it obvious? In a battle between the Millennium Falcon and the Enterprise (NCC 1701-E, of course!), the perennial winner is Battlestar Galactica.
Jon Doe. @ Jun 22nd 2008 5:39PM
Do you even know what a parsec is? The Enterprise (B,C,D, or E) could bitchslap the Falcon in terms of raw speed. 12 parsecs...bah...that's nothing. Now from a maneuvering standpoint the Falcon wins hands down. But then again we are talking a capital ship vs...something a hell of a lot smaller.
Ghen @ Jun 22nd 2008 6:50PM
I'd still rather live on the enterprise.. Even though the Synthohol doesn't pack a punch as good as real alcohol I'd still have the holodeck =)
Ken Seang @ Jun 22nd 2008 12:01PM
I never really played starwars battle front, should I get it for ps2 or pc?
Lekko @ Jun 23rd 2008 1:04AM
PC. XL mode is astounding.
Makes me really wonder why nobody else has 1000+ onscreen characters in a war game. So awesome.
mutd1999 @ Jun 22nd 2008 12:09PM
Woo! I've been waiting for ages for this.
JoP @ Jun 22nd 2008 12:28PM
definitely get battlefront 2
Jnas @ Jun 22nd 2008 1:04PM
Can't wait for the next episode.
Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast is the greatest Star Wars game ever created IMO.
David @ Jun 22nd 2008 1:18PM
Seriously! Kyle Katarn is the best character eveeer. I can't wait for the next episode.
DangerMouse @ Jun 22nd 2008 1:51PM
Too bad that the jedi outcast story was beyond retarded and the voice acting and script was dog shit. Not to mention the boring ass level design. Granted the lightsaber combat was excellent, but everything else was just so very mediocre.
MarMar @ Jun 22nd 2008 2:06PM
the original jedi knight was better. The lightsaber was better in jedi outcast, but the gunfights were better in dark forces 2 and the cinema cutscenes were awesome. Whoever the actor who played katarn was kicked butt.
LordMinogue @ Jun 22nd 2008 3:00PM
Actually, its
Star Wars: Dark Forces 3: Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast
:p
Maybe they'll remake the first two dark forces at some point.
MarMar @ Jun 22nd 2008 9:00PM
Why remake something that's already better than anything LucasArts has made in the past 5 years?
Arttemis @ Jun 22nd 2008 1:21PM
Holy shit, I feel terrible for never giving SW:BF2 a chance.
I was completely turned off by the bland design and ridiculously slow flying vehicles... but the sequel seems to have addressed those points. Damn.
The next episode will be great though. I grew up playing Dark Forces and its sequels. Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy had some of the best competitive saber action when with the right group of people.
I'd be interested to see some more gameplay footage of SW:TFU though, because it seems poised to take the crown for best single-player Star Wars action game.
Really, some of Lucas Art's games are so great that I don't even associate the movies when I hear the words "Star Wars". I think of the amazing games (and the Rogue Squadron/Bounty Hunter books).
t_m @ Jun 22nd 2008 1:42PM
Wow. What a dull collection of games. I can't believe BF was the best selling SW game of all time! It was terrible. Looks like BF2 might have been a slight improvement...
Jonah Falcon @ Jun 22nd 2008 1:46PM
So, KOTOR won't be in Episode VI? I s'pose there's an Episode VII.
Oh, GameTrailers, Battlefront wasn't the first to visit Kashyyk. KOTOR 1 did earlier.
DangerMouse @ Jun 22nd 2008 1:55PM
I think there's 9 or 10 episodes.
MarMar @ Jun 22nd 2008 2:06PM
Wow, way to shit in the face of intelligent gamers who want to do something other than turn on the game and kill, kill, kill, Gametrailers. The video is so unbelievably critical of SW Rebellion and ignores that fact that the 10 year old game still has a healthy modding and multiplayer community. Oh yeah, and it's about 500x better than Empire at War.
FSK405K @ Jun 22nd 2008 3:28PM
Star Wars + RTS = Crap. Now, Rogue Squadron, Jedi Knight, and Shadows of the Empire, on the other hand, FTW.
tc @ Jun 22nd 2008 5:16PM
Rebellion took away a lot of my waking life, was quite an amazing game!
chispito @ Jun 22nd 2008 11:12PM
Eh. I was only ever waiting for them to get to X-Wing (never did get to play Tie Fighter) just so I could feel validated that it was the best PC game for its time I've ever played.
chispito @ Jun 22nd 2008 11:13PM
I loved JK and JK2, but they can't hold a candle to the PC space sims X-Wing and, ostensibly, Tie Fighter, though I never played the latter and I'm just going off what I've read.
chispito @ Jun 22nd 2008 11:15PM
I apologize, I was replying to the guy up above me who said JK2 was the best SW game ever. You all know how well the replying function works around here.
Lekko @ Jun 23rd 2008 1:04AM
I want my battlefront three.
