Treyarch has ambitious plans for
Call of Duty: W
orld at War, namely in making sure that the Wii version is "not a different game," according to what Treyarch studio head Mark Lamia told Joystiq. "We have dedicated engineers, artists, and designers associated to the Wii platform. So we have a ton of resources, stable platform to start with while we're making that thing -- but it will be the exact experience except for the changes we need to make for the controls and everything else."
Everything else, eh? Aside from Waggletech® and
Overpriced Plastic Shell® integration (yes, Zapper support confirmed), expect the Wii version of
World at War to feature some significant scaling back in the graphics department, and
co-op and online multiplayer modes. So, same game? Or just the same
name?

The Wii is disappointing on many levels. Worse graphics, no DC, poor online, less impressive audio, slower processing=different game.
t_m @ Jun 23rd 2008 4:43PM
thanks for that
Foetoid @ Jun 23rd 2008 5:57PM
Those facts dont make it a different game. Gears of War could have been done equally as well on the original Xbox with the 'worse graphics', and it would have played just as well and been just as well recieved as it has been now. 'No DC'? I just hit up the shop channel for downloadable content for Final Fantasy: My Life As A King (hooray for more dungeons). 'Less Impressive Audio'? 99% of gamers are stuck with standard stereo speakers so who cares. 'Slower Processing'? What the? My 3 month old PC has slower processing than a $4000 super PC but still plays COD4 just as well so that makes no sense. You sir are the meaning of Epic Fail. At least if they get the controls at least as good as Prime 3 we're looking at the most playable of the 3 console versions. 95% as good as keyboard/mouse (wiimote) is better than 30% as good as keyboard mouse (dual-analog).
JCD @ Jun 23rd 2008 9:17PM
Thanks for cluttering up the intrawebs with a pointless post, skidawg!
Microswirl (MKWii:1676- 4270-3674) @ Jun 23rd 2008 2:44PM
Pass.
Not because it's WWII.
Not because it's Wii.
Because it's Treyarch.
Fanboy @ Jun 23rd 2008 3:00PM
Totally agree, +1 internets for you
t_m @ Jun 23rd 2008 4:43PM
what did Treyarch do, kill your parents?
Microswirl (MKWii:1676- 4270-3674) @ Jun 23rd 2008 8:58PM
If they had killed my parents then withholding $50 would be an insufficient punishment...
Microswirl (MKWii:1676- 4270-3674) @ Jun 23rd 2008 9:11PM
Oh crap, I just realized my hyperbole-detector was switched off this whole time.
Yes, yes they must've killed my parents.
NATO_Duke @ Jun 23rd 2008 2:45PM
Its just ignorant to think anyone is going to fall for this same game b.s.
It cannot be the same game with that control set-up. Same story, sure.
AoE @ Jun 23rd 2008 3:56PM
It can be, look at all those half-assed ports when the Wii launched. I think he's trying to very nicely say that's what they're planning for the Wii version >_
Habitual Cheetah @ Jun 23rd 2008 2:47PM
nice pic lol
juju187 @ Jun 23rd 2008 2:47PM
would be nice with multi-player but Friend codes lack of mics no thank... but it would be closest to the arcade exp. from out child-hoods well at least mine.
Rodrigo @ Jun 23rd 2008 2:56PM
hey no mic is a good thing for the wii because you wont be able to hear little kids telling your momma course words, so yea fernando if you buy this game you dont have to hear little kids like us the ps3 and 360 owner :p...
tmacairjordan87 @ Jun 23rd 2008 3:58PM
I think it would be pretty dumb to buy this game for the wii if you also have a ps3 or 360. Same could be said with all games with similar situations.
Mike @ Jun 23rd 2008 4:25PM
Yeah, not having mic support is a good thing because you won't have
to put up with your close friends trying to coordinate as a team and
chat amongst themselves while they have a good time. Good riddance
to that.
Seriously, I know Wii owners are generally "out of the loop" when it comes to
online gaming, but there are these mysterious and wondrous things
called friend lists and the MUTE BUTTON that make the experience
amazing.
Mr Khan @ Jun 23rd 2008 4:43PM
Oh aye, friended voice chat is something we've been bitching for for some time, especially since they already did it on DS, but i've always had my reservations about random voice chat, ever since i've seen it on the original Xbox
Mike @ Jun 23rd 2008 4:58PM
Wow yikes, sorry about the line breaks in my previous comment...
Co @ Jun 23rd 2008 5:41PM
"I think it would be pretty dumb to buy this game--"
You should have stopped right there.
Sang @ Jun 23rd 2008 2:48PM
Man, I love how they covered their asses by throwing out the "and everything else" at the end. Now they can completely fuckup the game and not be liable.
NATO_Duke @ Jun 23rd 2008 2:50PM
...cause gamers were gonna sue otherwise.
Sang @ Jun 23rd 2008 3:07PM
They sued over mono sound in Guitar Hero, didn't they?
NATO_Duke @ Jun 23rd 2008 3:44PM
That involved the game being broken didn't it? They sued over missing the sound channels promised by the game's packaging. Not over it being a different game than the other consoles had.
Rodrigo @ Jun 23rd 2008 2:50PM
i would say the same NAME but not the same GAME. i dont think that the wii will have the same online experience like the ps3 or the 360. and yea it's going to have ps2 graphics. so no its not going to be the same game.
Jacksons @ Jun 23rd 2008 3:03PM
I'd be more interested if it wasn't the same game.
samfish @ Jun 23rd 2008 3:04PM
Wii owners have every reason under the sun not to believe a word of this.
It'll probably suck on the Wii.
giantenemycrab @ Jun 23rd 2008 3:10PM
"not a different game on the wii."
So, using this logic, we could say that CoD5 for the 360/PS3 is a Wii game? Sigh, this game will suck.
Raikage (GOLDEN Gun Of The Patriots) @ Jun 23rd 2008 3:17PM
Haha.
This is totally gonna suck.
:(
mr mobius @ Jun 23rd 2008 3:20PM
At least they've made a Wii version.
Saying that though, still going to suck probably. COD3 is my only COD game and it's by Treyarch, so I don't think I've seen anywhere near the full glory that COD can be.
RobLink (Return of the McElroy Defence Force) @ Jun 23rd 2008 4:08PM
You really haven't.
In other news, you should probably get on that.
twism @ Jun 23rd 2008 3:30PM
no difference in price too?
James @ Jun 23rd 2008 4:11PM
Why are they proudly proclaiming it won't be diffrent? If you have the choice between two of the same games one being on the 360 and one on the wii...why the hell would you choose the wii version.
At least with an original Wii version there might be somthing worthwhile in it. But yeah world war 2 = no buy for me.
t_m @ Jun 23rd 2008 4:47PM
cos it has better controls?
VoR @ Jul 7th 2008 12:15PM
Superior controls? No RROD? If the only thing it has over the Wii version is a fresh coat of paint I'll take the new gameplay over last gen gameplay
James @ Jul 9th 2008 2:54AM
VoR what new gamepay will it have? Infact it will probably have less as in no online gameplay.
I like wiimote controles but the wii version will be the shit version. If there aiming for it to be the exact same then all were gonna get is the exact same experiance as the 360/PS3 version with crap graphics (and no online probably) it might have better controles but it's not worth the loss in content imo.
Mr Khan @ Jun 23rd 2008 4:17PM
Hope that's not a Wii screen right there
But Zapper support, co-op, and actually putting in online this time could still make a worthwhile title
We'll see if they stick to the Medal of Honor school of surpassing FPS controls, too.
Mr.ESC @ Jun 23rd 2008 4:19PM
Oh it supports that piece of crap Wii zapper oh wow whoopidie doo.
Yuck, I bought it for RE:UC and it makes things worse. The A button is very hard to reach with the zapper on making QTE almost impossible.
Superstar90 @ Jun 23rd 2008 4:50PM
Gah, there is no reason for lack on online multiplayer! You don't need friend codes to play against randoms! And since I know a couple people with Wii's I could trade FCs with them (I've gotten used to it, even though it's a hassle) and maybe have some voice chat with them only. Honestly, it's like developers are happy that nintendo made these stupid rules so that they can make a shitty game and blame nintendo for it.
VoR @ Jun 23rd 2008 6:00PM
After reading this I can just stop wasting my time coming here and just write this site of as nothing but fanboys. Thanks for making your bias so obvious. I might have actually wasted some time here had it not been so open
LOBO Rodas @ Jun 23rd 2008 8:49PM
Yeah, right. It's like Modern Warfare was on Wii! It was the same game! Oh... wait a minute...
Microswirl (MKWii:1676- 4270-3674) @ Jun 23rd 2008 8:58PM
Oh crap, I just realized my hyperbole-detector was switched off this whole time.
Yes, yes they must've killed my parents.
