this game actually looks good.
Vol @ Jun 23rd 2008 1:41PM
Ummm.. I think all of the Call of Duty games beginning with #2 looked great. And yes, even #3 looked fine too.
I think that Call of Duty 2 with HD graphics on the 360 kiosks sold a lot of 360s initially. It was my first introduction to video games in HD outside of the computer.
t_m @ Jun 23rd 2008 4:41PM
@Vol:
Really?
I remember standing in the shop, watching two people play CoD2 on the 360 and Battlefront2 on the xbox and thinking that they looked pretty identical in terms of graphics. that was what put me off buying a next gen console for a while.
Skunk Ape @ Jun 23rd 2008 1:31PM
Wow.... Compared to CoD4 those screens look pretty terrible.
Skunk Ape @ Jun 23rd 2008 1:32PM
Im just talking about the graphics. I, unlike a lot of people on this site, don't have a seething hatred of Treyarch.
uh-oh polio @ Jun 23rd 2008 1:41PM
i think it looks pretty good!
Sircolby45 @ Jun 23rd 2008 1:50PM
What?!?! That screenshot looks every bit as good as COD4! What is up with all the Treyarch hate? COD3 was an awesome game! This game is way better than people make it sound.
DangerMouse @ Jun 23rd 2008 2:34PM
I don't think the screens look all that great either, but it's one of those games you have to see in motion. The lighting and animations are what made CoD4 shine, IMO. IW had quite a while to polish CoD4 up, and it looks great. Depending on how long they've had to work on this game here will probably reflect the quality somewhat.
Jakka @ Jun 23rd 2008 2:38PM
First of all,it's meant to be optimized for a Wii engine so expect a Technological Revolution but a Graphical Trade-off.
Second of all, the angles and shots are kind meh-ish and represent a filler quality so I wouldn't really go into comparisons.
btw, CoD4 looked crap on night levels too.
NukeAssault @ Jun 23rd 2008 1:33PM
4 player co-op? Nope cant say i've heard. Rent for me!
Brian @ Jun 23rd 2008 1:41PM
The graphics look fine to me. But tell me how the online multiplayer plays out. That's why most people play COD4.
Mr.ESC @ Jun 23rd 2008 2:44PM
I'm probably one of the few who played COD4 just for the single player campaign, which I loved except for the last 2 levels before the Epilogue, and it was great. Don’t get me wrong I tried COD4 online and it was awesome but sometimes I couldn’t see what happened and I had this horrible crippling lag. That was the reason why I don’t play Halo 3 or Cod4 anymore so I returned to TF2 after I got the achievements.
In Tf2 I can work around the lag somehow, probably due the lack of grenade spamming.
Jakka @ Jun 23rd 2008 2:48PM
@ Mr ESC
Let me guess, Mr. Sentry doesn't know what lag is?
Mr.ESC @ Jun 23rd 2008 3:24PM
Yeah :D Kekeke.
Actually my favorite character is the Pyro but I always end playing support because no way in hell xbox 360 players will defend the intelligence. I’m actually good at Tf2 and well I would love to share some stories with you like that time I pwned the winning team all by myself and forced the host to quit.
I had the last piece of intelligence and I was at 3 steps of capturing it when the host quitted but it was an awesome match because I killed 3 Enginneers,1 demoman and evaded 1 soldier and a medic as a scout with 1 point left, friggin unbelievable.
I regret I never recorded that, it was awesome.Tf2 is full of Epic and WTF moments like that time I was in a match with no weapons. I don’t what happened there was no damage whatsoever, some guys turned into scouts and formed a scout tower.
Mr.ESC @ Jun 23rd 2008 3:25PM

(Sorry if this is a double post)
Jakka @ Jun 23rd 2008 3:53PM
Don't worry, sometimes even PC Players fail at defending. My mate once carried the enemy intelligence all the way on 2Fort...as a spy!...and this was the first time he ever played this game!
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Jun 23rd 2008 4:48PM
@Brian.
Don't worry, CoD:WaW online will almost be exactly like CoD4.
Mr Khan @ Jun 23rd 2008 1:45PM
I'm interested in seeing what they do with the COD4 engine running on Wii, personally.
But on a more relevant note, their attempts to go for gritty seem to be working well enough. They're taking the horrors of war as we know it in modern times, and pasting them over the too-often romanticized vision of WWII
Obie @ Jun 23rd 2008 1:50PM
What the hell is going on? Everytime I want to rip on a COD5 story, Treyarch shows something cool.
DOES NOT COMPUTE!
The_Punisher @ Jun 23rd 2008 2:09PM
Since i love WW2, COD3 was just as good as COD4,and this looks just fine
Mr.ESC @ Jun 23rd 2008 2:48PM
I hope you mean WWII shooters because WWII was a bloody war but one of the few wars Good triumphs against evil.
You know in all these WWII shooters we always play as the U.S troops but never as the Russians. I would like to play as the Russians in one of these games.
t_m @ Jun 23rd 2008 4:34PM
I know I've played as the russians in at least one game... cant remember if it was CoD, MoH or BiA though... stupid similar sounding names..
I guess you know CoD5 lets you play as the russians... i was hoping it'd lt you play as the japanese.
Dirty @ Jun 23rd 2008 2:11PM
I will rent this one. Treyarch has dropped the ball too many times.
amart @ Jun 23rd 2008 2:32PM
http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/928655.asp?q=cod3
How has Treyarch "dropped the ball to many times"? Your comment makes no sense especially considering Cod3 was not NEARLY as bad as everyone complains. Yes Big Red One wasn't amazing, but they showed improvement with COD3. Based on that I would say World at War has a good chance at being great.
stop with all the hate already!
Jakka @ Jun 23rd 2008 2:41PM
I'd also add that they made Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Die by the Sword, but then everybody would just brand me as a Treyarch fanboy.
Dirty @ Jun 23rd 2008 2:46PM
I was mostly referring to their Call of Duty efforts, I am surprised by the scores they received, I personally did not enjoy Call of Duty 3. Also Spidey 3 was awful.
Mr.ESC @ Jun 23rd 2008 2:53PM
Any person who says COD3 was the weakest game in the series certainly has never heard about COD portable games, especially the PSP ones, Yuck.
I have to say I liked COD3 as well :|
"Also Spidey 3 was awful".
The movie was awful too.
t_m @ Jun 23rd 2008 4:35PM
They only had 12 months to make CoD3.
Spidey 2 was great.. they made that one too, right?
offday @ Jun 23rd 2008 2:38PM
Why does IW do a COD, take a break, do a COD, take a break, etc. Why don't they just work on all of them?
Jakka @ Jun 23rd 2008 2:51PM
They need Treyarch to make a slightly worse game so CoD5 will sell another 10M.
That's what happened to CoD4.It was severely overhyped because compared to slightly-worse CoD3, it seemed like a huge quality gap.
Hopefully Treyarch will prove them wrong this time.
Vidikron (FU) @ Jun 23rd 2008 2:54PM
Who says they're taking a break? CoD4 was being worked on at the same time CoD3 was being delevoped and released by Treyarch. I wouldn't be surprised to find that IW has already started on their next CoD game. I think it's more acurate to say that the CoD series has two different developers that have concurrent development with staggered releases.
t_m @ Jun 23rd 2008 4:37PM
Because it usually takes at least 2 years to make a game, but players and publishers want one out every year?
(though i heard treyarch only got 12 months to work on COD3 as it was a rush launch job...)
Dohner @ Jul 12th 2008 8:56PM
okay for all the people saying this looks worse than coD 4 fuck off because both games use the exact same graphics engine actually treyarch has improved it for coD 5 so the game looks just as good if not better than cod 4 its way easier to make a drestroyed city look good than it is to make a lush japanese jungle so for all you idiots saying oh no WWII oh fuck off go cry about it this game is gonna be raw and all you know it
