How far has Gamestop come???
When I was in high school I thought my local funcoland was gods gift to gamers.
And Now 10 years later I agree with the above poster.
Congratulations Gamestop!!!

They're used dvds used to be my favorite. Where else can you get seinfeld box sets for 15 bucks.

They are awful stores, I usually find what I want at Best Buy or Target before I even step into that place.

what do you mean why are some called eb game and some gamestop?

if you meant why do they have two names it is because gamestop and ebgames merge to make the super video game pawn shop.

if you meant why they all just didn't become gamestop. well cause making new signs cost money are to make people not realize they are buying from the same evil company

Ok? Well why do they open new ones that have different names? It seems like after the merge they would just stick with one name for new stores. And I'm sure the average consumer that shops at gamestop could care less if they are "evil".

My guess is one of the possibilities is due to market analysis. If they notice that one store/location's EB Games was a popular shop, they wouldn't want to risk alienating people by rebranding it to GameStop. I guess they keep the name alive for familiarity to existing customers.

Ugh...everytime I hear of GameStop and they're stupid pre-order policy I get upset. It's ridiculous that I know that if I DON'T pre-order something that I'm better off driving to Best Buy or Wal-Mart instead of a game store to actually find the game available on launch day.

And lets not even get into their stupid I'll unwrap the game in front of you to check and see if the game is in there (rolls eyes)....

Weird, none of the Gamestops in my area have ever done that.

Wow, this is really surprising news...

I didn't realize that there was a game shop not owned by Game Stop left in the world. Well, not anymore, I guess.

I agree wickedpheonix; I hate to say it but I LOLed when I saw the header pic.

On topic: Gamestop is this awful combination of a pawn shop and ebay where they attempt to create a scarcity with new product to induce the GD preorders.

See this exchange last week for MGS4.
I go into Gamestop to save the 15 minutes it will take in WalMart next door.
Me: "Do you have MGS4?
Them: "We're sold out, did you preorder?"
Me: "No"
Them: "Good luck finding a copy. That's why you should preorder Res2 today."
I then walk to WalMart next door and buy MGS4 15 minutes later.

Filthy bloody gamestop!
Down the road there is an EB games and then a Gamesman, I've always shopped at Gamesman because it's a kiwi owned company and more relaxing to browse through than the 'in your face' approach that EB takes.

Agreed. Unfortunatly, EB games is my local (Hamiltron) and they tend to be cheaper than most other places. So much so that the independent down the road went into liquidation. Gamesman's customer service is better though.

DAMMIT!
Gamesman is a much better store than EB, their prices are better, their stores aren't obnoxious and most of all they don't plaster the entire store with giantbits of cellofane saying TRADE IN TODAY!!

Hmm, not good. Always sad to see a kiwi name go down to overseas companies. It could be worse though, they could have the monopoly - we still have JB Hi-Fi giving EB some sturdy competition...

*Phew* Not taking over my first choice in video game stores. Too bad still... Don't like when American corporations take over NZ businesses. (Not much offence meant to America :P Your corporations just have a bad rep lol)

Doesn't make a difference, the gamesmen have slowly been wasting away for years. There used to be 2 within 20 minutes drive from where I live, now the closest is about an hour away.
