PS3 Fanboy got a handful of tips this evening, purportedly sharing some screens of the PS3's long-promised "trophy" system, the console's would-be Gamerscore equivalent. From the looks of these screens – which have a couple things going for them: they're not blurry and that Clank avatar is real – the trophy system includes something that strongly resembles a Gamercard, including total number of trophies gathered along with a "Level" ostensibly gathered by collecting trophies of varying values.
PS3 Fanboy has a couple more pics, along with some extra rumors regarding the console's in-game XMB ("some things will require you to leave the game"), but we're guessing we won't know anything for sure until E3 rolls around next month. What say ye, internet detectives?

Awesome, but you forgot to mention one thing.
What kind of trophies will COD 5 have? I expect the answer in an article by tomorrow :P

Wow Sony is really trying to get PSN similar to Live in feature set.
Unfortunatley, they aren't going in the correct direction. I think this looks absolutley terrible to a Live gamercard IMO.
Also on a side note to all those PS3 supporters who laughed at us about our "E-PENIS"(gamerscore) it looks like PSN will have several versions (platinum, gold, silver and bronze) of a "E-PENIS" to compare. Hah funny can't wait to see Sony fanboys defend this one.

i think a lot of them secretly wanted it. either way, at least this will shut up the stupid 360 people who say you get more value out of a game because of these "points" and thats why they get it on 360.
i personally couldn't care less either way unless it leads to unlocked content.

I have no desire to defend this. I REALLY wish it wasn't coming. I don't see what value this gives to me... I just want my in-game XMB.

Don't worry my friend, this will never compete with Xbox live, even if its free and has second life integrated.

Trophies seems a bit different than a gamer score. I just want the option to share my date or not share my data. That's what I hate about Live is any friends can see anything and everything that I have played. I am one of those privacy nuts for the most part.
Look at it this way-
Live cost $
PSN is Free
If they get similar functionality Microsoft can't possibly justify charging for Live. Anyone who thinks Live is only good because you pay for it is sorely mistaken. They could do just as good if it were free of charge.

"If they get similar functionality Microsoft can't possibly justify charging for Live." The keyword there is "If". I've said this before and I'll say it again. 50 dollars a year for live isn't much at all. How hard could it possibly be to pay 50 a year. Also, who's to say that PSN would be free for ever anyway?
I do agree with you on the privacy bit for sure though. I'm not really interested in everyone knowing what games I've played and how many achievements I've gotten without my permission.

I never said $50.00 a year was over expensive. The fact of the matter is it is still $50.00. Maybe Sony will start charging for the PSN but I do not see that happening because they want to increase sales. My point is when all these updates drop and the two services are pretty much the same except one is free and one is not its only makes sense that Microsoft would need to drop their price or add another premieum service and upgrade all Silver accounts to Gold for free. Make Gold the new Silver.
I love the logic that Live is only less than $5.00/month and I am being a cheap ass. When you buy a game you don't justify it that you will play it for 2 months straight and it will only cost $1.00 per day. Because you pay the full amount up front.
Live is certainly worth the money but when these releases drop for the PSN the $50.00/yr will be a slap int the face. Unless Microsoft can bring something more than 3-D avatars in animal suits they can't justify the charge when the guy next door is handing out the same thing for free. Microsofts hand will be forced at that point.

i agree that $50 isn't much so let the developers pick up the tab like they did on the pc before live came about. maybe i'm spoiled from the little bit of counter strike, and red faction but the price seems ridiculous next to free when i have to pay for isp, electric, the games and so on. i almost thought it was a good idea when they launched it with the headset and tried pso on my roommates xbox. and the promise of fable almost had me again but we know how that turned out. but after my admittedly small time with socom and ea games for free it seems silly to pay $50 for a unified friends list and the privilege of being stalked and harrased by "friends" to play a game you might not even have handy at the time or don't feel like playing.

If only there was a way to block people from seeing your game history.. oh wait, there is. Sign into your profile on Xbox.com, go to privacy settings.
Now that your reason for hating Xbox Live is gone, I expect to read nothing but good things about it from now on. ;)

Hi. Sony owner here.
Screw Gamerscore. On both platforms.
You'll not though that this card doesn't have a gamerscore (a single score representing all your game playing). However, I'm just as willing to hate a medal count.
Play games for yourself, not to impress others. And that goes for both platforms (indeed all platforms).

MS lets you turn off viewing your game history (achievements), but you cannot turn off Gamerscore. Since my biggest beef is with gamerscore, this does no good.
Also, the problem with gamerscore is mostly how it makes other people play stupid (see TF2), and me turning mine off wouldn't fix that.

I'm not a Sony fan anymore, 360 for me, but can Sony have an original idea or do they have to steal everything? I mean Sony developed the Dualshock which was a marvel but every announcement they have these days are nothing but copies of what other companies are doing. Wake me if Sony comes up with something on their own that will make me want any of their products.

This is how companies work these days. One company innovates and the other is forced to play catch up. For example:
iPod-Zune
Google-Windows Live
Xbox Live-PSN
You honestly can't blame Sony. Thats how the industry works. And its good that way because it create more competetion between the companies forcing each company to innovate. If Micrsoft hadn't of created Xbox Live, then we might still be stuck in the dark with Sony's online service.
As a owner of all 3 consoles I find it excellent that companies copy each other and try to innovate what they copied to be better then the original invention.

Ok ok stop. Obviously you don't understand how businesses work. It's easy. When one company sees something another company does, then tend to copy some features of that said company in order to simulate that companies success. That's how it works. Microsoft does it, Sony does it, hell all game developers do it aswell.

bigd, methinks you need to turn back the clock a couple weeks to the big Microsoft leak that happened. And then tell me Sony is the only one copying off other people.

Just look at Vista vs MacOS and tell me that Microsoft has done nothing to keep up with another company.
There is plenty that Ps3 does that 360 doesn't. There are reasons to own a Wii over both of them. All three systems have their perks, and until people stop whining about every little thing, and just play some goddamned video games.. the better off we'll ALL be.

First of all, it's "tangible" not "tangable" .
Second of all, I'm a bit confused about what you mean by "tangible". I know some sort of physical prize would be "tangible", but I don't understand what "digitally tangible" means, or even how that would work.

I think vannyx is hoping that by gaining trophies, he will be rewarded with some kind of PSN store credit, or a free Quore subscription or something.
While being rewarded for achieving trophies is a really cool idea, it will probably never happen.
Maybe when Home comes out, people will have the option of having a trophy room in their house... that would be kind of cool.

I think you meant "unlimited ammo BANDOLIER". Although a bandana that grants unlimited ammo would be cool...I could use one of those at the shooting range...it would go well with my Rambo mullet.

Getting emblems In MGS$ actually allows you to unlock stuff, Resistance's Skill points actually allow you to unlock stuff. In SSBB you actually unlock stuff.
So you actually earn crap for getting achievements in some games, but it would be great if it was the case for every game
