Rumorang: Forza 3 'core game' will be on one disc
Last week we reported that Forza 3's sheer glut of content may mean the game will span two discs -- a feat not performed in console racing titles since Gran Turismo 2 back in 1999.
Fears of frequent disc swapping have been tentatively belayed, however. The Angry Pixel reports that only one disc will hold the "core game" content, presumably with the second disc holding additional, non-integral features. This possible scenario comes from a source at Dhruva Interactive, an India-based game developer contracted to deliver 3D assets for Forza 3.
The source also states that more news on the anticipated racing title is coming "fairly soon," so we'll hopefully get to the bottom of this "2 discs 1 game" rumor in the near future.

I don't know what to say. As long as the game has amazing graphics it's a buy for me!
TrojanGuy @ Jun 23rd 2008 8:04PM
Well, I'd hope gameplay and features would be a factor, too. Thankfully Forza hasn't ever been a slouch in those areas, either.

Hopefully they will have an in car view this go around
Anonim @ Jun 23rd 2008 8:42PM
So 2nd DVD is only bonus one?
Extras - movies on racers, game development, interviews and all that stuff as always in "special" editions etc.
WHAT A SUPRISE! ;)

I was completely disappointed with Forza 2. It felt like a port of the original.
Hopefully this extra content disc will contain more than what is already available for Forza 2
why not the LS2LS7? @ Jun 24th 2008 12:34AM
A port with lots of tracks removed. And the point-to-point races
It sure didn't add much to the racing, not even in the graphics department. It mostly added the auctions.
It still did have a good simulation, and it fixed problems with the engine notes (for example the screwed up Subaru 22B engine note in Forza).

only fanboys who don't own a 360 will care about this
AZ @ Jun 23rd 2008 7:34PM
and only fanboys without a PS3 would crucify Polyphony Digital if they did something like this for the PS3.

If GT5 took up 2 blurays, I think it would be fair for people to mock it. I mean, that would be over 50 gigs of data . . .

2 discs 1 console

I think that's the joke...

I hope they allow you to install disk 2 to your xbox HDD. That would be quite awesome, my elite might actually be useful.
And yes, the irony of that statement with regards to me slating installs on the PS3 is present.
Nick the Hero of Canton @ Jun 23rd 2008 7:34PM
Nothing wrong with console installs...if they are completely optional.
Batzarro @ Jun 23rd 2008 7:22PM
Well, no duh! Whoever thought it was gonna be "To choose the Enzo Ferrari, insert disc 2"...
mr mobius @ Jun 23rd 2008 8:04PM
Bluray disc could fit ten of this game on one disc! PS3 FTW!
*Disclaimer*
Anything said above should not be taken seriously.
komamura @ Jun 23rd 2008 8:10PM
I would have figure they would put Career mode on one disc, and Arcade, and Online mode on the other disc. Kinda like the did for GT2 back in the day
OTAM @ Jun 23rd 2008 8:13PM
As an owner of all 3 consoles I will say that this is one reason I value my PS3. Right now blu-ray to me is worthless, but as game sizes and budgets increase a year from now it might not be that way.
xFenixKnightx @ Jun 23rd 2008 9:12PM
Off topic but still in the disc# topic for 360. MGS4 could be on 4 DVD9's and instead of waiting through the (2-3min between act) installs you would swap out discs. Swapping discs takes how long again? Not 3 minutes, LOL!
Anyway with no MGO data on the game (since MGO is said to be a PS3 exclusive) it could be done easy. I heard the game is about 33gb's with uncompressed data. Compress it and it will probably be 2 discs.
/Flameshield!!! :D
Just sayin...

i guess you have a really bad memory...

And yet the copy of MGS4 I bought only has one disc...
John McPoop (PSN:johnnynumber5) @ Jun 23rd 2008 11:35PM
Why would you want to do that? As A PS3 owner its not like I want installs but its something I tolerate because of a myriad of reasons beyond the scope of this conversation.
It will take a lot more than compressing the data and throwing it on 4 disc's to make both games equal. It would take a very long time to optimize this game for the 360 because it was developed for the PS3 from the ground up over the last 4-5 years.
If you gave me the choice between installing data or swapping out disc's I would install the data. If I had to choose between swapping out MGS 4 disc's or never playing the game you know my answer.

I'm just saying this for the people who aren't going to go out and buy a PS3 and totally miss out on this game for that. It's sad really. I'm letting my die hard MGS friend borrow my PS3 because he sais hes not going to buy a PS3. He has 360 and I'm letting him borrow it for a weekend. I said he better marathon it and beat it cuz I want my PS3 back intact. lolz This game should be enjoyed by all. :(
I do know where you are coming from though. This is the only game I've ever said to myself "man this is really showing what the PS3 can do"
Totally Badass!
why not the LS2LS7? @ Jun 24th 2008 12:39AM
You mean 6 DVD9s (6x8.4GB = 52.4GB).
But that wouldn't necessarily work because typically when a game is split between discs you have to duplicate some data between discs, because just some shared data (like models of Snake or UI, etc.) that only has to be on the disc once on one disc has to be on each disc when split so that you don't have to swap back when you press start to get the help screen or whatever.
Additionally, given that the optical drive in the 360 is only marginally faster than the PS3 BluRay drive (in about 1/3rd of the disc it's actually slower), there's no guarantee the game could run without caching to disc on the 360. Thus you'd have to swap and then install too.
John @ Jun 24th 2008 3:53AM
Or, you know they could loop like 1 minute of radio staic instead of recording 16 fucking hours, and get rid of all the other shit that kojima insists they put in for no reason.
How you people like those games is a complete mystery to me, it's like a bad soap opera, and the plot "Twists" are ridiculous and just stupid.
Plus this thread is about forza...

It'd be sweet if Microsoft let developers load content off a second disc from the HD-DVD drive. It wouldn't take much extra code (for Microsoft initially or for developers during game production) to allow a second game disc to run from the very capable drive, and then people could use them for something useful still. I mean, why not utilize the hundreds of drives that are out there for something good?
klitorisaurus @ Jun 23rd 2008 11:47PM
Those two discs up there only look half full!! Maybe that's the problem :P
Imadogg @ Jun 24th 2008 1:34AM
Plus the 2nd disc seems to be for the Gamecube... weird
