EA Sports peripherals due in next year, bundled
EA Sports executive producer and VP David McCarthy has revealed that Moore's division plans to create and bundle peripherals with some of its sports games. "I think you'll see games using that Rock Band peripheral strategy from EA Sports, even within the next 12 months," McCarthy teased during his Paris GDC lecture, reports Gamasutra.
According to additional comments McCarthy made to Next-Gen, it would seem that EA Sports is specifically focused on developingplastic shells peripherals for Wii. "One of the things we're doing is looking at just playing with the Wii remote in a different way, using a whole new peripheral that's out there, kind of thing. So, basically enabling control for the user in a much different way," McCarthy said, adding, "we are prototyping stuff that really does allow us to play with the Wii remote differently." McCarthy promised that something would be shown to the public in the next few months, maybe as soon as E3.

Worst. Idea. Ever.
MDV @ Jun 24th 2008 12:09PM
God damn it, EA....
sinai @ Jun 24th 2008 12:11PM
when did it become okay for game developers to copy another developer's concept, and then brag about it at conferences?
whatever happened to originality, EA? wait, what?
LordChimp @ Jun 24th 2008 12:11PM
I can just imagine now how stupid people will look using the peripherals for these games in their living room.
Markez (MKWii 4339-2878-5120) @ Jun 24th 2008 12:13PM
I hope they release a big unwieldy hockeystick. Or maybe a big plastic horse for a new horse racing game.
LordChimp @ Jun 24th 2008 12:33PM
lawl, giant plastic horse
samfish @ Jun 24th 2008 12:16PM
I encourage all of you to throw these peripherals in your nearest recycling bin, as opposed to the trash.
Bleu @ Jun 24th 2008 12:44PM
Here Here great Idea bro. FUCK EA!
el serpiente @ Jun 24th 2008 12:57PM
YEAH BRO!
WOOOOOOOO
Burritoclock @ Jun 24th 2008 4:25PM
In order to throw them in the trash we would have to purchase them first, so how would that fuck EA...?
Why not let EA recycle them when they are shipped back unsold.
Or better yet, fill them with oil and throw them in the nearest beutiful lake or pond.
Fuck da planet!!
riggs @ Jun 24th 2008 12:25PM
great, a white plastic football for madden WII 09
Kye - M-Kart Wii 0817-4620-2062 @ Jun 24th 2008 1:04PM
When EA sports peripherals 2009 gets released lawd knows you wouldn't want to be seen dead using EA sports peripheral 2008.
This idea = fail.
riggs @ Jun 24th 2008 1:08PM

Version 1.0 @ Jun 24th 2008 8:44PM
Soccer balls connected via USB to the PS3? Depending on how hard u kick, the ball will go further in-game? Dont crack your LCD's like how the first batch of Wii-motes did...
Version 1.0 @ Jun 24th 2008 12:26PM
Oops, I meant Wii, why the hell did I type PS3...
juju187 @ Jun 24th 2008 12:30PM
i remember a day an age where gadgets had no place in the world thx to sega inovations, now theres a market for it again....
prepare yourself for the "POWER GLOVE II" yes you herd it here first.
Bigfoot @ Jun 24th 2008 12:30PM
Great, more plastic things to clutter people's rooms.
NATO_Duke @ Jun 24th 2008 12:31PM
Peripherals were a good idea for a few games - the novelty when you got GH was huge. Now, they are an annoyance to me. I don't need more pieces of plastic laying around for use with a game. Just let me play the game out of the box without the chatchki crap.
el serpiente @ Jun 24th 2008 7:29PM
It's ' tchockies', nato. Didn't you pay attention in Yiddish class? Sheesh...
John Z @ Jun 24th 2008 12:40PM
Did anyone else think "Oh great, Madden 09's stupid-looking oversized mandatory football controller will be completely incompatible with Madden 10's stupid-looking oversized mandatory football controller"?
Kye - M-Kart Wii 0817-4620-2062 @ Jun 24th 2008 1:05PM
Yep! right here! *raises hand*
that guy @ Jun 24th 2008 12:42PM
Wah, wah, wah, people (that's the noise of crying, not a wah-pedal for a guitar). I think it's a stupid idea too, but if ya don't like it, don't buy the damn things. Sheesh. No one's forcing you to.
DarkTetsuya @ Jun 24th 2008 12:53PM
And if all their sports games come bundled with the new peripherals, how do we do that?
that guy @ Jun 24th 2008 1:39PM
Don't buy the freakin' game.
Double sheesh.
horngreen @ Jun 24th 2008 12:49PM
The bet part is that since it is EA the "helmet and pads" for Madden 09 won't work for Madden 2010 so you'll have to upgrade each year. You know EA we don't all live in a dork cave in our parents basement where cheetos bags and porn mags can be left out for months on end. Rock band sounds fun but I don't want to have to become a roadie and break down a gig after each gaming session. These game add ons are getting out of hand and everyone is jumping on the same bandwagon. Maybe the convergence to just one console for all will become a reality in the end once we are all knee deep in UBS plastic shells.
DarkTetsuya @ Jun 24th 2008 12:50PM
I just hope the football's compatible with all the other ga-- oh, wait nevermind.
Ding @ Jun 24th 2008 1:02PM
Using the Wii Remote in whole new ways does NOT mean creating a useless plastic shell. Its possible hes speaking the truth.. Maybe their thinking more along the lines of head tracking, or motion tracking using LED equipped gloves or hats (while keeping the wii remote stationary).
Jacksons @ Jun 24th 2008 1:59PM
Whatever, it's not like I'd ever buy a multiplatform game for the Wii anyway. On the other hand, I'll bet little kids like this kind of trash.
Ridgecity @ Jun 24th 2008 5:03PM
You guy like the plastic Rock Band accesories? lol
spartan 6453 @ Jun 25th 2008 10:48AM
Man look at the loss of bladder control in here with all this pissing and moaning.
DON'T BUY THE EFFING GAME=PROBLEM SOLVED, DUMMIES
Seriously though, a golf club for Tiger Woods would be awesome. They already make training clubs with sensors that tell swing speed, path, and etc. This would take the TW series from "game" to "simulator".
