The most fun my friends and I had playing online shooters ended when we actually got online with one. A few years back somebody got a copy of Unreal Tournament, one of the few, if not only, FPS available for Mac at that time. We installed copies on 3 or 4 Power Macs in the office and at 5:01pm we'd fire 'em up and get going. We would play for an hour or two a few days a week. Good times, we were railgun-toting gods.
Well, one day we decided to configure the "server" Mac to actually go online and join matches already in progress. This is where we realized how much we actually sucked. There were guys doing flips, guys doing backflips all while blasting us into oblivion. We weren't even cool enough to call it "fragging", but we definitely got "fragged" relentlessly.
Needless to say, we collectively decided we didn't like getting shot by teenagers doing backflips because they were obviously cheating. They weren't. We "cut the cord" so-to-speak and kept our old man shooting parties private from then on. We never did figure out how to do backflips.
I was playing Unreal Tournament 3 on PC (Heavily, heavily modded), and a flying vehicle hits me and throws me off of the very high standing location I was on. I proceeded to fly right next to the enemy starter base (Don't you love ragdoll?). Then, I was shot at by no less than three enemies who thought I was miraculously alive.
I rarely play online. When I can kill some supposedly good player once in any game, I'm happy even though they'll beat me down for the rest of the session
For months on end all of my friends have been playing COD 4. We had a great group of people who were always online. Most of us parents (including myself) and gamers from day one of NES. Now that COD 4 is fading out most of the people I play with are switching over to Quake Wars. I'd love to keep gaming with them!
My best experience playing online with Battlefield:2142 on the Camp Gibraltar map.
Our team had just lost the last spawn point, our home spawn point at that. I'm one of the last players alive, and I happen to sneak my way out. I get lucky enough retrieve one of the bases closest to the opposing teams home base. Since everyones in the back still going all out I manage to capture the base.
Everyone gets back onto the field and we got at it once more. The intensity rises. we lose anyways.

Doing a great Tarantino-style standoff in GTA4 where both me and my opponent machine-gun each other to death at the same time. Happens occasionally and always gets a laugh.

My best experiences playing games is when i get a bunch of buddies. It the only time i can get them to say late and not care about work in the morning. Its brought us closer to family and friends too!
Duke Nukem 3d: you could put your own sound effects in and hit a button to use them. My brother put in a set of Star Wars effects so he'd push a button while running away that would be C3PO saying: "Please don't deactivate me!"
quake!!!! my best online shooter experience is playing metal gear portable ops on psp. it was weird at first but it helped a lot in adjusting to metal gear online which is really different than the standard halo style.
hey is this really going to be underground's last title? i read everywhere they were closing after this but i keep seeing job postings for them. anyone know?
