By the time you read this, there's a good chance the above video has already been pulled. However, if you're lucky enough to be reading Joystiq religiously (as you should), enjoy some leaked Gears of War 2 beta footage, care of Analog Hype.
Update: Now with more footage, including executions and "death crawls," after the break.
Well, I guess you could argue about whether or not there should be too many changes for any sequel. Afterall, if something veers too far off the path of what made the original a success, is it even really a sequel? i think the key is giving fans more of the same, but improving any gripes in previous entries, while improving gameplay and graphics, and throwing (some) changes in along the way. I, for one, am looking forward to this one.
Probably but I read in the issue of EGM that covered Gears 2...they said once your body is picked up for a shield, it counts as a death and you either respawn or wait in the dead lobby, depending on the game mode. You wont have to go through the long wait to get your kneck broken.
Wait, didn't I just read this on another message board the other day when the same thing was said by another irrational, out of touch, ignorant, blatant troll? Just because the internet gives a voice to the unwashed masses doesn't make their voice relevant.
Uhm... There is going to be Gears of War 2 precisely because the voice of the unwashed masses IS relevant... They voice their opinions with their wallets..
What kind of sense does it make to complain about a sequel being like its predecessor? Lets say you really enjoyed the ironman movie and wanted to see the sequel. Now imagine that when the movie starts, You find that the movie has switched from live action to cgi, Robert Downey has been replaced with the kid from transformers (and im not talking about the hot girl) and the character tony stark has stopped wearing his ironman suit because he has gained actual superpowers. You probably wouldn't like that movie, because its so different from the first one. The point of a sequel is to give people more of what they liked the first time while adding new elements that they are likely to enjoy. Thats what Gears2 does, and thats why it will sell just as good as the first one.
Seriously, I think its a 8-9 year old boy who hasn't had the droppage yet. Just think of all the 8-10 year olds on PSN and Live with high pitched voices that swear like sailors and it makes sense.
Is that how people played the first gears of war? No wonder everyone bitched about how short the game was. I *stalked* my way through the first game. Certainly never just ran around like I was playing quake.
I never cared much for GoW multiplayer. The whole idea of the downs system was a real turn off to me, I mean most of the time i'd do all the work on a kill and then a teammate would stroll along and stomp on his head without having done anything. Oh well, at least the GoW2 singleplayer looks cool
Well, if your TEAMmate did it why would you be upset? A team kill = a team kill. GoW didn't have the number ranking system like Halo did to make you froth at the mouth for an MVP award.
However in non team battles, yes, kill steals are annoying and pretty unavoidable with this system.
You know I'm not one of those drama wh*res who make a big deal out of it, in fact the manual says there aren't "steal kills" but it is annoying and the assist kills don't give you crap in Gears.
Halo can be pretty g*y sometimes but Gears players took it beyond the limit. It is pathetic to hear a 32 year old guy screaming at some teenager for some kill, is just sad.
Sure it didn't matter if give you a point reward, but a kill would give the satisfaction, i always felt robbed of that when someone executed my down. It felt like they took my, for lack of a better word, glory
Why are half the comments people saying " What is this Gears 2 that you speak, Am I an internet star yet? Am I funny?" But hey, this looks good. The only problem with Gears multiplayer is that there are only 8 players total.......
I'll play it on PC since I won't get around to playing this until I catch up with all the other games from this generation anyway. Looks good to me. Nothing AMAZING, but good.
Wow...i'm slightly disappointed by this. It looks almost exactly like Gears 1, with no major improvement. I'm hoping the single-player isn't a letdown (footage proves it won't be), but i'm just praying this doesn't turn out liek RSV....2?
I don't see why "it looks like the old gears" is such a big deal. Gears 1 was and still remains one of the best looking games on the 360. Plus, the quality on these videos is atrocious. You can't really see the new lighting and other effects in Unreal Engine 3. On top of that, this is only a multiplayer demo. So you can't judge the game until you see what they did to the single player / co-op campaign which boasts increased hoard sizes and all that. New weapons, new moves. Tweaked gameplay. Yes, that is what a sequel is. I don't know what you expected.
Without trying to sound too much like a fanboy, i guess MGS3 to 4 has just raised my expectations for sequels. GTA IV, RE4 have done the same. This just looks like Gears of War: , like an expansion rather than a sequel. :(
But still, i did write that im holding my expectations for SP. I was never a big fan of the mult. anyway.
This is the reason I still have my 360. I did not like the story in Gears 1 but had some of the best times playing the multiplayer component of the game. I hope they balance out the shotgun (seems they did w/slowdown), eliminate ALL glitches & tweak the active reload. I really dislike the active reload feature especially when everyone who plays the game empties their clip sans 1 bullet then downs you from a sniper rifle shot in the the foot.
