Nah man Ive been playing the Demo on and off since it was released on XBL. Really into it. I'll be getting it hopefully next week along with 2 of my buddies. Its really good fun and a great change of pace from COD4 once you get used to everything. Its getting great reviews so I was also surprised. If they would've done 4 player co-op most reviews would be in the upper 9's because thats the main gripe I hear.

This looks real good. An improvement of graphics from an already graphic intensive game. The new weapons, details and tactics look great!

Gears 2 ftw!

Looks ok. I am more looking forward to the single player stuff. I have never been a fan of the GoW multiplayer, which may come from me sucking at it...

Footage of a game that looks and plays almost exactly like its mediocre precursor - I'm so thrilled.

First off, thank you Joystiq for posting this awesome vid.

Secondly, I'm glad I got to see the new subtle features in action. The moving around while you're down adds a lot of new depth... as does the destructive environments, very cool. I also liked how the smoke grenade acts as a flash grenade and the smoke looks a lot more incredibly detailed.

The meat shield looks very promising and that will add a lot of depth as well. There's really nothing worth complaining about except the fact that they haven't taken out one shot downs with the active reloaded sniper.

Gears of War has been the only game I've been playing since it came out (with the exception of occasional First Party Wii titles), this looks like it will finally replace the one game in my disc trey. :D

What exactly are all these idiots hoping to see out of Gears 2?

Seems to have new weapons, new characters, lots more finishing moves, destructible environments, much smoother animation. We haven't even seen anything of single player yet (other than the one brief trailer), and almost nothing from the promised improved story has been revealed yet.

And how are people judging that the graphics are identical from a YouTube video??? Even on a hi-def video from GameTrailers the compression makes graphics analysis dicey at best, but YouTube???

And yet person after person signs on to say "it looks and plays the same, yawn". Again, what the heck were they expecting? Microsoft cannot suddenly upgrade the 360's graphic output to double high definition. So do any of you whiners want to step up to the plate and actually explain what you thought could happen with Gears 2 that would have gotten you excited?

I really should stop reading the comments on Joystiq.

gfxgum, you probably didn't even play the first Gears. You probably don't even own an Xbox 360. And you will probably never own either a 360 or Gears of War. You probably didn't even watch the full video.

I mean honestly. Gears was mediocre? If you didn't like it, that fine. But what kind of f-ing games are you playing, that the best console exclusive of 2006 is considered mediocre? Even if you don't like the game. You have to be down right ignorant, or down right spoiled to go so far as to say Gears was mediocre. Theres thousands of games leagues below Gears, that aren't even considered mediocre.

Clearly a lot of people like Gears, its still near the top of the most played list on live almost 2 years later. So no one really cares about your bloated ego, and over stated opinion.

As for this game looking the "same" as the first Gears. So what, the art direction is the same? Lets hate a sequel, because the art direction is pretty much the same.

Halo 3 is just Halo 2 with a HD coat of paint, not for any logical reason. But Just because the art direction is consistent between the two games.

First off, the game has a party mode. The game has a screen shot system. The host advantage has been fixed. Chain saw duels were added to make head on head chain saw fights more interesting. Weapon specific executions. Mobile cover. movable cover. The ability to pick up downed enemies to use as cover. Destroyable cover. Your no longer immune to fire when chain sawing. Higher frame rate. Better animations. More detail in textures. Better lighting. Better water simulation. Better soft surface physics. New weapons. New characters. New enemies. New maps. New game modes. And from the reveal trailer, the production values seem to have gone up.

I mean, what are you people expecting from a sequel?

Apparently, the spoiled children of the world want even more than all the things you just listed.

I for one am PSYCHED for Gears 2 for multiple reasons...and no, the most beautiful graphics on earth do not necessarily equal a fun game. Last night I played Battlefield: Bad Company for the first time and despite the fact that the graphics aren't more beautifully detailed than Gears of War, I had a blast playing for about 3 hours straight. Why? Because of the GAMEPLAY.

This was a bit wordy, but yeah, I agree with you Ghostbuddy...it's a SEQUEL, not a brand new IP. Don't expect revolutionary differences if the first title sold millions of copies. The developers at Epic are going by the old tried-and-true adage: If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Some elements were broken (overpowered shotgun; host advantage), but now they're being fixed (I hope). Of course the gameplay is still the same at its core...it was fun the first time around, so why change that? Would some of you rather play a Gears of War-themed game of Boom Blox instead?

I should add that I understand the fact that for some folks Gears of War just wasn't as fun...i.e., it isn't for everybody, and I respect that. However, if it just "wasn't for you", why call it mediocre? FFVII wasn't for me, but I don't call it garbage.

I dont give a damn about the single player. The multiplayer is where the first game shined. Im so glad of all the improvements. It will make a great xbox live game even greater!

You don't give a crap about the singleplayer? That's too bad considering the first game was going to be only singleplayer until multi was tacked on at the last minute.

So what you're saying essentially is that you don't like Gears of War.

Well im the complete opposite.

MP is a job for a lasy man to create - heres your weapons, heres your maps, no go fight.

Single player campaigns is what it should be about. Creativity, art, story, character, innovation etc requires a bit more brain power to create which makes it worth the £40/$60.

I enjoyed Geow1 campaign. A bit basic with background plot but good none the less

K although it visually looks on par with UT3, i'm pretty sure the proven and tested gameplay mechanics is enough to sell it.

And just because this and UT3 look gorgeous with their high res texture doesnt mean it has everything else. The physics, particles, smoke, explosions, destructability with Unreal engine isnt all that.

fyi, im goin to buy this game(my 3rd xbox game) because as i said, gameplay mechanics is enough

A note on graphics.
What few are considering is that this Gears 2 footage is in the beta phase of it's development. For those that played the Halo 3 beta, it was identical graphically to Halo 2 just with some new weapons, more character options, etc. and this is no different. Beta quality is usually worse than Demo quality and Demo quality is usually worse than than the shipped product. Since this beta already has the graphical quality of the original GOW (which only a handful of games shipped in the last 2 years actually have BETTER graphics), the final product shipped in November will more than likely set the console graphics bar again, just like it's predecessor did 2 years ago.
