Microsoft brings Chobot, 'IGN Strategize' to XBL

Not to be trumped in the online flesh-and-blood female host arms race by Sony and Qore's Veronica Belmont, Microsoft has announced a partnership with IGN to bring its popular "IGN Strategize" segments to Xbox Live, hosted by IGN host/celebrity Jessica Chobot (who may or may not lick a 360 controller).

Larry Hryb, Xbox Live's "Major Nelson," made the announcement this morning via his Twitter feed. A brief preview clip of himself and Chobot chatting has subsequently hit the "Inside Xbox" section of Live. IGN Strategize will soon join the other regular Inside Xbox segments and focus on tips, tricks, and strategies, hence the name.

I kind of like some of these streaming videos on XBL... game previews, interviews and tips.

My problem with the inside xbox stuff is that it does not come in hi-def. They pushed the hd stuff on us and now they dont even use it. Qore is all in HD with a shit ton of ads. You just cant win with these 2 companies.

streaming hd video takes much much more time then sd video. twice the data size

either u download hd video or stream sd video otherwise, the wait sis too long

I understand that, but it should be available to download instead of stream. Or am I missing it somewhere.

Also, it doesnt take very long to download HD vidoes from gametrailers. Even if its not True HD at least it looks halfway decent.

i actually prefer the way inside xbox works.... quality is not hd but it looks pretty damn good and the fact that it streams instantly is a big plus for inside xbox. i would never want to keep this stuff long term anyways and lets face it.... most of what they put up there i dont need to save but some of the stuff is worth watching.

Hey Dirty, I think Major said all of these streaming vids are available for download off of xbox.com. I think it sucks that downloading these isn't an option on LIVE but at least you can download them if you want.

I definitely like Insider more than Qore. The main reason is size. its freakin 1.5 gigs and a slow download to get an episode. I get more content quicker through live and if its a video that warrants an HD version I download that.

Actually, Doom3Killer, streaming HD vid works fine. Of course you need good internet bandwidth, and the source needs a good bitrate too. I stream HD vid (trailers and game vids) from PSN with no prob. But then, I am on fiber optic...

Oh and Jess is HOT. Whenever I listen to IGN's podcasts, her sexy voice is just too distracting. She's married with kids though :~(

Get Morgan Webb, and XBL=complete.

While she doesn't know much about games, I would take Munn over Webb. Some man can just tell her what to talk about. Plus "Morgans minute" plays a million times on g4, and I dont really want to hear it the first time.

I think Olivia Munn in the slave Leia outfit is quite possibly the greatest thing I've ever seen. The runner-up is watching the video of Chobot beating Portal for the first time. She practically orgasms.

Wow, qore isn't even out a month and xbox is trying this? At least wait to see if qore is successful before you copy it. Could be copying a failure here... Question is will it be free? If so who gives a damn if it's successful or not?

........Inside Xbox has been around since last fall's update...its also free.....and is updated daily....

Inside xbox was out before qore, they are just adding someone new. It's more like qore is copying Microsoft, and yes it is free.

It's funny to see you guys arguing about which shitty service is better. They're both lame! How about we throw the Nintendo Channel in the fray too?

Seriously, am I the only one who just sees these as a fancy advertising delivery service? Some may argue that Qore 1-ups the competition by giving games, beta codes, etc. with it. But I think that stuff should be given away separately.

Apparently people can't understand a damn sentence so I'll explain. What I meant was Qore released this "magazine structure" and microsoft is trying to capitalize off of that with IGN. Nintendo channel is similar in some aspects I guess. I own all three systems and could give a shit less about who copies who. I just find it funny that Microsoft is venturing in to a similar "magazine structure" without waiting to see how qore does. I guess I should avoid attempting educated comments for fear of being flamebait to prepubescent fucktards... At least Lars contributed to the comment with a respectful reply.

Damn, I think they've got us beat on this one. Chobot definitely trumps Belmont in the looks department, but does she actually know anything about vid gamez or does she just lick things? I'm okay either way, really.

Belmont has more cred...and hell, the fact that her last name is Belmont is good enough, first time I actually thought they were talking about a Castlevania character...

Yeah Chobot is more of a pretty face, her editorial writings have been quite poor. Belmont knows more, but she seems to be changing jobs every two seconds.

Yes you are....It's nice to have info on whats out or coming to xbox, especially the tips they show to get some of the harder achievements in games like GTA.

Chobot is a fine looking woman and pretty entertaining on a podcast. A good addition for XBL, but brings to mind the feeling that coverage media that should be critical seems to be getting awfully chummy with the content providers these days...

While having Olivia Munn share screen time with Chobot would be nice I don't think it will happen since I'm pretty sure Chobot feels like Munn is just a copy cat of hers.

I'd watch it if it was Greg Miller instead of Chobot.

If it was truly copying, it would cost 30 bucks a year and you would have to download it mnaually.

I wouldn't say they are doing this to trump Qore really. They have been adding to Insider since it came out. So I just see them expanding it naturally. Its a nice little place to get some extra content about was going on and point people to content.

I need a Chobot bobblehead for my desktop
