Super Street Fighter II XBLA beta begins today

The beta will give players the option of using only Ken or Ryu in various online modes or in local two-player matches. Remember, this is a beta, so the actual purpose of it is to stress-test the network code for the multiplayer modes of the game. The beta will run until around August 20 or whenever Capcom decides to pull the plug. Don't worry, you'll probably get bored of Ken and Ryu by then.

Slayer @ Jun 25th 2008 1:41AM
I know this is off topic, but why the fuck do my comments keep disappearing? Is this browser related?
KeenCommander @ Jun 25th 2008 3:03AM
And why are they all green since I upgraded to Firefox 3?
Slayer @ Jun 25th 2008 3:13AM
I didn't know firefox 3 was even out.
tcc3 @ Jun 25th 2008 8:22AM

It's deja vu all over again ala people buying Crackdown for the Halo 3 beta.
shouryuuken @ Jun 25th 2008 2:29AM
yeah, but crackdown was good. commando 3 is mediocre.
shouryuuken @ Jun 25th 2008 2:29AM
just wondering, can i purchase commando anytime between now and august and still get in on the beta?
Hasney @ Jun 25th 2008 3:27AM
I believe so, as it's just an optin on the menu. Capcom haven't confirmed one way or the other though.
Hasney @ Jun 25th 2008 3:22AM
I think Commando is a great XBLA/PSN game, a mindless blaster to play with friends. I bought it only for SSFF2THDR but I've really enjoyed it this past week.
Sheppy (of the Fidlious Clan of Wong) @ Jun 25th 2008 8:19AM
Normally I'd disagree with you but this time I'll let the second journal entry down say it. http://sheppyboy2000.deviantart.com/journal/
Alex @ Jun 25th 2008 3:31AM
damn... if the beta is set to run all the way to august, wouldn't that mean they wouldn't plan on actually releasing the game until a few weeks after?
i guess they could release the game while the beta was underway and then just patch up the game with corrections to the flaws they found on network play. but i dun know how plausible that scenario is.
the reason i'm "worried" about when it's going to be released is because of the Evolution Fighting Tournament 2008 being held from August 8-11. having the HD remix version of a beloved classic would (not by me, just speaking for the masses) would be a great gift the fighting game enthusiasts in attendance.
but from what i'm seeing, that isn't likely going to be the case. DAMMIT David Sirlin! get with it! ;p
John @ Jun 25th 2008 11:26AM
Last I checked, that's not the case anymore. Wizard changed the logo on the main page back to normal ST from Anniversary Collection.
Hasney @ Jun 25th 2008 5:14AM
Ladies and gents it is now available to download.
See you on the interwebs
Maximun2k10 @ Jun 25th 2008 6:20AM
The game is Bugy as hell...
AoE @ Jun 25th 2008 1:31PM
wait... a buggy beta? no way! you've gotta be shitting me!
Dude, the entire reason the beta exists is to find/fix bugs.
Hasney @ Jun 25th 2008 8:10AM
Hence the term beta? What are you guys experiancing? I've had a couple of lock-ups while searching for/creating games...
Tony @ Jun 25th 2008 9:48AM
If I buy Commando 3 today, will I still get access to the SF2 beta?
Hasney @ Jun 25th 2008 6:12PM
Yup
ZeroCorpse @ Jun 25th 2008 10:48AM
Why are they giving it out with "Wolf of the Battlefield:Commando 3" instead of giving it to those of us who paid for "Street Fighter 2: Hyper Fighting"? -- Wouldn't the latter make sense and be a decent gesture.
As it stands, they're basically expecting me to purchase the exact same game YET AGAIN but this time with prettier graphics. I've already purchased home versions of Street Fighter 2 MANY times since its debut.
I don't think I'll be buying this. Sorry, but this is one too many, too soon. I'm NOT going to buy the same game every year, just because it gets tweaked a bit. The game play is the same and frankly this version should have been what they gave us in the first place when they released SF2:HF on Arcade.
No man-- I'm out. They're not getting a dime for this one from me if they won't at least give the SF2:HF buyers a discount or rebate or something.
Norm @ Jun 25th 2008 11:57AM
Actually, the gameplay in this beta is way more broken than any other SF game so far. Ken can follow up a medium DP with another DP, and if you get a random dizzy and add a super to that, you've basically won the match in one combo. This game, so far is a joke. It's for the enthusiasts like me, but unfortunately it fell flat on it's face as soon as I played it. Lag caused people to jump in and out in some matches as if I was playing a laggy FPS or something. The game has crashed more than it has worked for me. Although this is said to be an early build, what I've seen so far has been a joke.
Hasney @ Jun 25th 2008 1:28PM
Hmmmm, every game I've had (that's not locked up) has been 100% lag free. That was this morning though so it may have got worse now more people have downloaded it.
AoE @ Jun 25th 2008 1:35PM
Norm, it's clear you have no idea what a beta is or what it's purpose is. I regret to inform you, but it's not meant to be a demo, nor is it meant to be bug free... the very reason a beta exists is to find and fix bugs. The reason this public beta exists is to find and fix online play related bugs. So guess what? Expect bugs, and lots of them. OF COURSE this is the most broken version of SF2 ever, it's not finished yet!
Wikipedia entry on beta software, it's a quick read and should be enlightening:

Got it downloaded. Local match worked just fine, but quick match has actually frozen my machine. You've got some work to do Capcom.
Maximun2k10 @ Jun 25th 2008 1:35PM
@ AoE
Yes, i know, but shit have limits... did you tried the game already ? Serious, after "trying" for 2 hours, i was able to play like 4 times, the rest of the time was reseting my 360...
AoE @ Jun 25th 2008 1:37PM
Welcome to beta land. If you don't want to help Capcom stress-test SF2HD before it ships, then don't help them. But don't expect a polished experience, or anything even remotely near it from a beta, it exists BECAUSE the game has bugs.
Maximun2k10 @ Jun 25th 2008 1:40PM
@ AoE
Well, COD 4 was a good experience, was beta, but was a good beta, dont get me wrong, i love Street Fighter, but, its not working so far...
And dont come with the crap about helping Capcom, they are old monkeys, they supposed to know how to handle this kinda shit... dammm, how long Xbox live exists ???
genius69 @ Jun 25th 2008 7:27PM
it's buggy...it's beta...it's expected. my only quibble with it is the fact we have only 2 players to choose from and they are almost identical to each other to begin with. Is that so the fighting is more evenly matched, or just so the testers have fewer differences between the characters to focus on? Cause I seriously need to a fei long "whooooooooooooooooooo!!!!" fix.
