Those hoping to engage in some frantic side-scrolling shooting, or perhaps read an entire CD-ROM's worth of stilted text with religious overtones, will be pleased to learn that PlayStation classics, Einhänder and Xenogears, are now available for purchase and download on the PSN. And if you'd like to maintain that joyous feeling, you'd better not read the rest of this post, which goes on to append "Japanese" to "PSN."
Gamasutra reports that the cherished Square pair, along with four other titles, Astronaka, Rakugaki Showtime, Raystorm and Fighters' Impact, are now available on the Japanese PSN (we warned you!) for ¥600 ($5.56) each. An unconfirmed NeoGAF translation of Dengeki PlayStation magazine asserts that these games form the first half of 12 classic Square Enix titles to be committed to PSN.
According to Square Enix USA, there are currently no plans to bring any of the titles to the American network.

Someone tell me then: what exactly is the purpose of the American network? If they aren't gonna put stuff like this on it then why even have it?

I'll live without Squaresoft titles, but why in the hell does Japan get Crash Team Racing and we don't? That's beyond irritating.

"It's sad how a lot of people don't take care of their games. Even worse shitstop won't let me return them."
For real? I bought a used copy of RE4 for the gamecube, which didn't work. Then i swapped it for another, and same thing. The guy suggested i clean my gamecube, but i really didn't want to deal with it anymore, and he gave me my money back without any trouble. I guess it all depends on who's running the store.

I still have a sealed copy of Xenogears, but if it was on PSN, I'd buy it again. And I'd definitely want to finally get to play Einhander after all these years.

It is sad that the shmup genre has fizzled out in this country. However, seeing games such as Space Invaders Extreme, Gradius Collection, and the release of R-Types on the PSN is promising. Perhaps some pleading letters to Sony from enough Einhander fans could bring these games to us. For those who prefer the old school means of communication:

Maybe a well drafted letter will get somebody's attention there!
