Check out video of Street Fighter II HD XBLA beta
50
The Super Street Fighter II Turbo Hyper Deluxe Your Mom HD Remix beta started yesterday and, for those who just can't bring themselves to buy Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3, we've placed some videos of what the beta looks like after the break. Although we received numerous complaints yesterday that the beta wasn't working properly, this seems a good a time as any to link the definition: Beta. For those who are playing the SSFIITHDR beta -- and actually have it working properly -- what do you think?

I'll pay 10 for this. Anything higher just isn't worth it. I already have the Anniversary collection, and i suck too much to actually enjoy playing it online.

The "beta isn't working properly" because a huge amount of (the majority of?) players freeze when trying to join a player match. Total freeze. Have to restart their 360.
Joining tournaments seems to be a little easier, and joining an invite works too.
The graphics everyone has seen, but I do like the music. I'm also liking Commando 3, for what it's worth.

there are framrate issues...i thought that if they redid the game, they would also make the transitions smooth...not just redo the graphics

There seem to be a lot of comments like "it's a beta! It's not supposed to work!" on the Capcom forums. That's fine but if the game crashes before you can even get into the game, what's the point?

Once a round is over, about 50% of the time, the music just stops playing and sometimes won't come back on for the rest of the match.
Other times, it'll just come back on during the next round.
Kind of annoying, but yea....it's a beta.
I'm still having a blast with this game.

Via Gamespy regarding Streetfighter 4
"We were extremely happy to hear that Capcom is considering bundling the game with high-quality arcade sticks. They even went as far as to tell us that they've been in preliminary discussions with a well-respected hardware manufacturer to bring the best arcade sticks to date to market, so we're hopeful that they can make it a reality. After all, what good is having one of the best fighting franchises of all time in your living room if you can't play it the way it was meant to be enjoyed?"
I really hope this is true, Ill be getting the bundle for damn sure!

Looks good so far. I like the trail on fireballs. Music's alright, but I think I'll stick with the original compositions when I play. And the new announcer's alright.

I don't think I'm going to buy this anymore. After seeing it in motion with the new sprites and same amount of frames.. it just doesn't feel right to me. my brain keeps saying it should be smoother.. :\
that and I already own 6 copies of the game

Getting a game started can be a pain in the ass. I was searching for games, it would crash. I'd host a game and it seemed no one could join. After rebooting my 360 a couple of times (and fearing for RROD) I got the game to work. It isn't bad, but I'll be getting it for the PS3. The PS d-pad is better for 2D fighters IMO.

At first, the game animation seemed out of place which hi-res images over now-clunky framerate, but the more I played it last night, the more the visual style made sense. I started to notice the little things like the vapor trail behind the hadokens. The team behind this game said from day one that they were not going to change any of the animation frames, just give the game a new coat of paint.
There's alot to like about Street Fighter HDR if you played more SF than you care to admit back in the day. If you bought a C&L Controls joystick for your SNES, had or knew someone who bought SF2 for the Super Famicom, or skipped school to play the game in the arcade, then welcome home.
Being a player of XBLA Hyper Fighting back in the day, the online play for this title has been significantly improved. Compared to Hyper Fighting where Blanka was able to seize an online advantage with his quick jump arch, I felt that the majority of my losses were based on mistakes I made in the match and not because the lag makes it impossible for me to react. It may come across as a small thing, but I like having the ability to perform a Hadoken and have it come out with near immediacy. I can actually counter a high-low game online like I would in real time.
Other online improvements of note: 6 players in Quarter matches. Online tournament mode (single elimination - max 8 players). A visual of the energy meters and current round if you walk into a match in progress. PING readings of opponents (yay!).
People have been complaining about Ken's overpowered juggling Strong Shoryuken. If a Strong DP hits the opponent in a close anti-air, then a second Strong DP can be tagged on upon landing, landing an additional two hits that usually leaves the opponent dizzy. You can also combo the Strong DP into the Shoryureppa, which brings you near Touch Of Death status. While I do have some issues with the changes to Ken, I am going to wait until the full game comes out before I make an overall judgment. Right now, playing this game is like playing chess with all pawns that have new features. The Ken pawns can take out multiple pieces from the opponent in one move. The Ryu pawns can say they made a movement when they didn't. At the end of the day, you need to have the complete set of pieces to play a real game of chess. You will need the same when it comes to playing Street Fighter.
Only other thing of mention is the semi-consistent freezing. I have no doubt that this will be addressed by the time the Beta concludes.

Yes how many times can one buy this game? It's getting to be like Pac Man and Galaga. A flat two dimensional game in "high def" doesn't really look all that impressive. I like how all these old school remakes on XBLA say HIGH DEF like it's a selling point. Since the nose of my space ship is smoother I'm supposed to buy a game I played 1000 times in high school?

I want to go back in the past with this game and confuse people with my better looking version. Build a cabinet for it or something to make it look normal on the outside, but with super sharp graphics. Then I'd get to really watch some heads explode.

The animation kills this for me. I understand keeping the timing consistent with earlier versions; but it really takes a lot of the "oomph" out of the updated graphics.

Some freeze animations and cut-offs. Sound is sometimes out of place. Speed is not a factor in the game. I played the game with a VF5 Arcade Stick - Control response/timing is a little off due to the animation. Overall the game as whole will be promising once these issues are address for the final version. SF Fans well get a treat this Fall with 2 Great Fighters.

Lots of crashing during matchmaking. Lag turns Ryu's fireballs into Dan's, in that they simply disappear.
16:9 support is silly; they zoom in instead of expanding the field.
Overall, it's nostalgic, and pretty, but I'm not sure I'll be buying it. And I absolutely LOVE Street Fighter games.

Well the announcer sounds like a throw-back to old SF2, so that's good.
It's going to be epic when it comes out, DO WANT.

Lots of crashes and bugs but its beta so I am not worried. Netcode is good: much much better than XBL:HF but not as good as ggpo.
Game itself looks and feels great. The videos posted here seem like they were captured wrong, the game is much smoother when I play at home.
Rebalance changes are interesting. Ryu's fake fireball is a nice tool to have and I like what they've done with Ken's crazy kicks and dragon punches (though strong dp seems to dizzy too much when juggled).
Biggest complaint is that ranked and tourney matches are locked at 1 match affairs. I want best of X sets with the loser being able to change characters. A single match vs a new opponent just isn't enough time for interesting mental games to develop from learning each other's style/patterns and thats where the real beauty in this game is.

The game is a true beta! It crashed my box 4 times while trying to connect to other players. The visuals are nice...but the developers decided that HD means "just make the 640X480 screen prettier."
Sadly if you choose the "display in widescreen mode" option, you'll be greeted with a very zoomed in version of the pretty graphics. Now Ken and Ryu are almost life size...which is just entertaining but stupid.
I don't think it would have killed anyone to make the visible part of the board wider?? Guess that ruins their game dynamic?
That brings me to the fact that this is still SF2. The game play is almost exactly the same as it was 10 years ago. That's good on some levels but bad on others. On one side...I like that they didn't change the gameplay of a once a great game...on the other side, I'm annoyed that someone can still kick me from 2 feet away. Maybe some new collision detection would have been nice?

Yes, it would have. This game is the next progression of the SF2 games. It is the sequel to Super Turbo (came out in 93!) which was the sequel to Super which was the sequel to Turbo -> CE -> WW, etc. None of these drastically changed the game in any fundamental way, and that's been the goal of HD Remix from the start.
Fresh graphics and a few new moves/rebalanced made by people who understand the game at the highest level. This is the game *I* want. Let SFIV be the game that tries to innovate, let HD Remix be the next evolutionary step in SF2.

You cannot widen the visible play field beyond the default without breaking moves like Vega's Flying Barcelona. I've been playing on a hi-def wide screen monitor and the game is perfect "zoomed in"

I like the game, it was great then and now it's been cleaned up. The beta was a problem for me though. I xbox kept freezing up and pushing me towards not playing. I think this will be a great game to own when it is released
