See, now that's something for Joystiq to net record posts: OMGS4 surpasses Halo 3 overkill!

There can be only one explanation for this:

Joystiq is biased towards the PS3.

Okay, you know when I said that MGS4 would sell 4-5M copies.

I must admit I could be wrong...then again this game doesn't appeal to all PS3 audience.

PS: How many people do you reckon got caught into the hype machine and are right now swearing under their noses starting at those cut-scenes?

As I say with any game or well...anything, if people buy things without researching what they're getting and get pissed off at the end result, they're pretty damn retarded and have no one to blame but themselves

Well with the massive amount of 10s this game has been getting and Gamepro's review(IT'S ART MOTHER FUCKERS!!! ART!!!) I wouldn't be surprised if quite a few people with no knowledge of MGS picked up this game.

Not only that, the ads that have been shown on tv focus more on the action part of it, so I wouldn't be surprised if people bought it for that reason alone

I agree there was so much hype yet I was skeptical. But when I first loaded it up, even the damn intro screen blew me away with the Old Snake song playing in the background and Snake in the cemetary. Just fricken brilliant, all of it! I love how the IGN video reviewer puts it...

"MGS4 doesn't raise the bar, it obliterates it!"

These are shipped numbers. Media Create has MGS4 at only roughly 533,000 sold despite there being a million shipped in Japan.

It seems to be doing a lot better than I honestly thought it would, at least immediately. I knew it would sell millions over time, but didn't think it would do so much in a couple weeks.

Keep in mind that shipped does not equal sold. That doesn't negate the fact that it most likely will sell a few million, but that's not the official sell count.

Like someone once said, shipped it not sold, and shipped could sit on shelves. When I sadly went to buy AitD at GS, the manager said MGS sales were pretty poor. Her store did not even have a midnight opening.

Oh and the resale value of AitD is $22!?! How sad is that, Haze even beats that at $25!

Instead of news on MGS, I want news on how many people are taking back AitD, is there an NPD for that one? ;)

That game is so bad I don't even know what you are talking about. Around here (DC area), I had trouble buying MGS4 without a preorder. Actually went to 3 different places. Definitely harder to get than Halo 3 and GOW but I will admit that stores were probably more stocked with those games.

The numbers have been huge. It is surely a great game that deserves all the sales. It should continue to sell well and get a big sales jump again at the holidays when ton's of hardware gets sold. Lots of people will want MGS4 to break in their new console. I think it should easily get 5 million worldwide this year, which is just great.

I like MGS, don't flame me, but back when MGS2 came out, I got bored of it. MGS3 was not very good either IMO. I think it felt too green/foggy.
There is only one thing that will make me WANT a PS3 and that's Heavy Rain, which comes out in September-ish. If I do get a PS3 then, I will also probably get MGS4. Until Heavy Rain though, my Xbox will be better than the Playstaion.

Media Create only has MGS4 at ~533,000 units sold, and there are a million shipped there. No where near 3 million units have not been sold to consumers yet, like most people are thinking.

@4MyFriends

You keep bringing up that Media Create has MGS4 at 533,000 of a million units sold in Japan. Media Create doesn't track sales anywhere else BUT Japan.

If half a million were sold in Japan, it's no small stretch to imagine that over a million copies have been sold in Europe and the US *each* when you consider that both territories have over double the number of PS3 systems sold that Japan does.

Think globally, not locally.

Said to the cadence of "Apply Directly to Forehead":

Shipped does not equal sold!
Shipped does not equal sold!
Shipped does not equal sold!

The rhythm of forum posts doesn't even have to pass a Turing test to be simulated. I'm shocked that Fernando hasn't shown up, because the shipped != sold argument cannot be official until he states it.

I would say that this is a significant victory for the sony camp. Having a successful 3rd party game certainly helps. I know after playing it I felt much better about my purchase.

And for all those who think the cut scenes are too long, shut the hell up. This was like a game with a summer blockbuster all in one. The plot is fantastic and it keeps you playing for hours on end to see what happens next, almost like a good book. The experience is without equal right now.

I agree, you're getting more gameplay out of a first run-through than you do a lot of other action games, plus you get an great story with awesome cutscenes to boot. Plus this game is so replayable because of the flexibility of the gameplay. I've completed it 4 times and each was a different experience.
