Yeah we get it, moron, you don't like the game. Thrilling that it's important for you to dig on it any chance you can get.

This game doesn't really intrigue me, but it's apparently pretty awesome, and damned if I ever feel the need to go out of my way to actually rag on it.

Reminds me of when that dbag Bowser decided to get all uppity and rip on GoW2 all up and down a big thread.

So without the cutscenes MGS4 is pretty much only a 5-6 hour game. Dizzam

If you rush through it knowing exactly what to do, sure. My first playthrough was about 22 hours, and I read somewhere that the total cutscene time is around 8 hours.

All the Metal Gear Solid games can be beaten this quickly when you've already gone through it before.

Yeah I remember rushing through MGS 2 in about 4-6 hours on my 3rd playthrough. My first playthrough of 4 took about 20 hours but I was also going the action route, headshotting everything in sight >:D

Wow.. that's sad. All this time building up MGS4 and it can be beat in less than 3 hours. Too much story not enough gaming.

Just to throw this out there. I saw a speed run of Super Mario 64 where the person got all 120 stars (didn't use glitches) and beat the game in just under three hours. You'd be surprised at how quickly some games can be beaten when you know exactly what you have to do. Of course, that was an extreme case where the player did take a few shortcuts (completely within the games parameters though) and practiced a lot I'm sure.

It's pretty interesting that you can tell who has and hasn't played the game just by the tone of their comments. For those who have played the game, the typical reaction is "WTF? How is that even possible?" For those who haven't, it's "Ha! What a joke how short this game is!"

I tried doing this for a whole of five minutes until the Gekkos began jumping out of nowhere and killing me with one hit. Considering that there's no save/load state feature (that so many of these speed runs use, via emulation), and that the game makes it one hell of a chore to load a previous checkpoint, this is a seriously impressive feat.

I could pull of the no alerts, but I heard you have to get no kills either. If that's the case, I don't think I can pull it off.

Why does game length matter in how great a game is? I hear Super Mario Bros, the standard to which all games are held, can be beaten rather quickly. Besides, Metal Gear Solid has always been a franchise that you can play through repeatedly because there's several different ways to play it.

well, actually, most of the titles that are considered AAA by many, and hell, even the classics, can be beaten rather quickly if you know exactly what to do...

Just look up speedrun...

That was my thought. Admittedly, I'm not an MGS fan or even a casual MGS player, but just watching how many times this dude had to skip cutscenes in the first 5 minutes of the game made me frustrated - I can't imagine how much I'd hate actually having to watch/skip them myself.

Impressive play though. I can't believe this guy was able to beat Liquid Ocelot so throughly.

A short game does not equal a bad game. What is the speedrun time for the original half-life? 15 min?

If you rush through as quickly as possible, most games are about this length.

It is taking most people 20-25 hours to complete, and with about 8 hours of cutscenes, a "normal" playthough is actually a good 12-17 hours of gameplay, more than most games now-a-days (Im looking at you, Bourne Conspiracy)

Let's not forget the 4 hour game that was COD 4 (which reminds me...how long will COD WaW be joystiq?)

8 hours of cutscenes sounds about right to me, if not shorter. I only remember 2 that went close to the 60 minute range, most were kinda short.

Then again it took me 20 hours so 12-13 hours of gameplay is pretty good for an action/stealth game.

MGS games are like Resident Evil games.

First play 8 to 16 hours depending on your suckage level.

In the second play you can beat it in less than 2 hours. I'm gladly surprised that the Speed run last 2:30 hours, that means the first play will take a while to finish especially if you want to enjoy it.

Normally I don’t go for this runs since after the story mode is complete there isn’t anything else except going online for a week or two.

I have yet to buy a Ps3,I’m watching all the MGS4 videos because I don't know if I will ever play it since I don't know if the bundles will ever make it here.

You can save or is like getting the Dead Rising 7 day survivor achievemnt? (Leave the console on)
Also what you get?

I never go for the Big Boss run I mean after I finished the game I really don't feel like playing it again.I mean MGS2 I think you only get a Wig for Raiden of something.

You can save at each checkpoint, Mr. ESC. At some times, I had to keep trying to pass an area, but eventually I got passed it.

You get 2 unique guns and the Big Boss Mask. There are a couple of masks to acquire in MGS4. I have all of them now. I also acquired the Altair costume.

Wow, so I can save/load? About friggin time, I have always wanted to do that in MGS especially in MGS3.

I don’t think I want the Altair costume, for me Altair is the image of defeat and deception.

P.S Am I the only one that considers Snake and Ocelot fight a bit hilarious I mean senior citizen Kombat WTF? How can they take so much punishment from each other?

Heh, yeah, it's a little odd but it's a great part of the game when you get to it, Mr. Esc. I don't know if you're going to get the game or not, so I won't spoil it for you.

Yeah, you can save and load when you get an alert or make a mistake. I beat it on Big Boss and took my time the first time I went through it. There are a million ways to play each Act and the action cut-scenes are awesome. There are some points in the game that are very frustrating, especially if you do a speed run, like I did.
