Rumor: Microsoft to introduce Home-like My GamerPad
New images are circulating around the 'net about Microsoft's supposed answer to PlayStation Home. Dubbed My GamerPad, the two images (which are said to have originated from the very dubious 4chan forums) show a crayola-esque logo and an Avatar waving to nobody in a pavilion.
While we're pretty confident with the information about Avatars, My GamerPad looks like bad Photoshopping from a questionable source. We've put in a request to Microsoft for a statement. Update: Official statement: "Microsoft does not comment on rumors or speculation."

lots of rumors today. As pointless as Home, but it would probably be done first.
Kevin @ Jun 26th 2008 7:52PM
If even half of these rumors are true, MS has been very busy. I think that they don't want the casual gamers to slip away from their console. Kudos to MS for adapting to the ever changing gaming environment.
Noshino @ Jun 26th 2008 7:52PM
well, if the final look is just like that, then it shouldn't take them more than a month...
unboring @ Jun 26th 2008 8:21PM
Wowee , lots of people like to say that Sony is the culprit for copying but this is rediculous. They rip of Mii avatars then they rip off home. Home at least has beautiful graphics, this looks like balls.
Like really Kevin, when sony brings rumble back and trophies they are copycats, but when microsoft blatently copies sony and wii in one fowl swoop you think they are "Kudos to MS for adapting to the ever changing gaming environment." biased bullshit really,
They all copy eachother , thats nothing new, happens in all industries. Whats important is whether or not the company improves and builds on the exsisting concept they are drawing inspiration from. This to me looks like a half baked answer to home, graphics look low poly and weak, I will reserve judgment until both are released.
Dave @ Jun 26th 2008 8:45PM
@unboring
The idea is like Home--but the look is like Mii. I don't think they're trying to impress with the graphics. I think they're going for cute.
007craft @ Jun 26th 2008 9:26PM
mii and home are both pieces of junk for the wii and ps3. Please let this rumor be false. I dont want this crap on my 360.
E.J. @ Jun 26th 2008 9:27PM
You're probably right, jsn. Home seems really intricate. This looks like it's something simple to be implemented over the existing GamerCard infrastructure.
I really hope this is fake though. Just seems like an unnecessary reaction to Home.
Tiptup300 @ Jun 27th 2008 2:30AM
People, seriously, this just looks like some xna game somebody made.
deaftly @ Jun 27th 2008 11:26AM

This is just getting sad.

I believe the phrase you're looking for is "race to the bottom*".

Seriously. And not because I find the rumor unlikely, but because the images just look faked. They look like someone with limited 3D modeling and texturing skills thought they could get away with making some simple, low-detailed stage just because the avatars previous revealed were more cartoony, which isn't the same thing. The interface with its awkward hexagonal border and random simplicity looks totally void of any actual design. And I don't know what the hell they were thinking with a crayon logo, making it look like MS was trying to capture the E games only audience rather than the broader casual one. Not to mention I find it unlikely they'd put "Press A" on what look like the title screen considering pressing start is the requirement for 360 games' title screens.
That said, I wish it were true (but not that crappy looking).
#28 @ Jun 27th 2008 1:26AM
Yeah, I doubt Microsoft would have avatars doing a Nazi salute. He's clearly heiling Hitler.
Wes @ Jun 26th 2008 7:52PM
I've got a psychic feeling coming...what's that? Microsoft is going to say 'We don't comment on rumors' line again? Shocking!
#28 @ Jun 27th 2008 1:30AM
You win!
ahsayuninew @ Jun 26th 2008 7:53PM
I hope this isnt true
Halwende @ Jun 26th 2008 8:57PM
I second that... it looks way too childish. If I wanted to play around with this kind of thing I'd sell my 360 and buy a Wii
Lijik @ Jun 26th 2008 9:04PM
Whats sad is that I can't do this sort of thing on my Wii already. I hope this is true if only for Nintendo to make a Home/Gamerpad-like Wii channel.
Erwos @ Jun 26th 2008 7:53PM
Well, I'm not saying no, but I gotta say I'm skeptical.
Then again, you need a space to have your avatar parade around in, so why not? Microsoft has one advantage - software development skills. This would be a sensible use for them.
Mr.ESC @ Jun 26th 2008 7:53PM
4chan? ITS A TRAP.
Obie @ Jun 26th 2008 8:39PM
I know right? That should be the FIRST thing to be weary about.
michas_pi @ Jun 26th 2008 8:50PM
Trap acknowledged. Taking evasive action.
Superstar90 @ Jun 26th 2008 10:59PM
i think 4chan is a pretty cool guy, eh is the scum of the internet and doesnt afraid of anything
Mr.ESC @ Jun 26th 2008 11:30PM
"Taking evasive action".
DO A BARREL ROLL!
Mr.ESC @ Jun 26th 2008 11:35PM
How you know is a trap?
If it's a rumor: it is a trap.
If it comes from the internet: ITS A TRAP!!
AND IF IT COMES FROM 4CHAN YOU CAN BET YOU ASS IT'S A TRAP!!!
And from that day forward any time a bunch of animals are together in one place it's called a ZOO...Unless it's a farm.
xGeneral DEATHx @ Jun 27th 2008 9:49AM
LMAO @ TF2 reference...+1, Sir.

Benny @ Jun 27th 2008 7:46PM
Be careful... war has changed!
Mr Khan @ Jun 26th 2008 7:53PM
I think this is too obvious of a direction for them to go in, after Lips, Avatars, and their Motion controller
Perhaps somebody figured to jump on it and paint Microsoft as a greater copycat, i don't know
Alfred Cantilina @ Jun 27th 2008 11:59AM
f*ck 4 chan
all those dudes do is hack things
darn nerds
Joel @ Jun 26th 2008 7:58PM
I really hope this is fake. I don't care for home and I won't care for this. I just want great games with a great online experience which I have had with my 360 thus far. I rather have microsoft focus on securing new ip's and working on more kick ass games....
Master Bruce @ Jun 26th 2008 7:59PM
As mentioned earlier, as much as Home had the idea first, they've taken forever to release anything. Odds are, MS will churn out something first.
Jomolungma @ Jun 26th 2008 9:09PM
Yeah, it's not like MS can rip off Home - it doesn't exist yet. While Sony SAYS it will come out some day, that's what they've been saying about Duke Nukem Forever for.... forever. Maybe if MS releases this first, Sony will look like they copied, at least to the average consumer who probably doesn't know Home from home.
That being said, I'm skeptical... highly.
thatguy @ Jun 26th 2008 8:05PM
This doesn't seem to fit with the 360's style... if that makes any sense.
Dave @ Jun 26th 2008 8:56PM
I was thinking the same thing. At least, they should give you a choice. Maybe that's what things look like if your zone is "Family"--but if your zone is "Underground", then you're in a futuristic smog-choked city and everyone's a mutant.
Darth Abe @ Jun 27th 2008 12:03AM
"but if your zone is "Underground", then you're in a futuristic smog-choked city and everyone's a mutant."
You have single-handedly convinced me that Microsoft needs to do its own version of Home.
Nick the Hero of Canton @ Jun 26th 2008 8:05PM
Surprise, Surprise.
Probably won't work as well as Home. The appeal of home is the moderness of it. Right?
mcatrage @ Jun 26th 2008 8:05PM
Why would you post anything that comes from 4chan?
kobebryunt @ Jun 26th 2008 8:05PM
Fake
NESv1 @ Jun 26th 2008 8:08PM
If this is real, Micro$oft is really desperate.
tmacairjordan87 @ Jun 26th 2008 8:10PM
So, lets assume this is all true.
Lips (singstar knockoff)
Avatars (mii knockoff)
Gamerpad (home and mii knockoff)
motion controller
And people have been ganging up on sony for copying lately?
Nick the Hero of Canton @ Jun 26th 2008 8:13PM
Singstar (Karoke Knockoff)
Miis (Internet knockoff..seriously, similar things have existed for so long)
Home (Second Life: The Knockoff)
motion controller (you win this one).
Drew @ Jun 26th 2008 8:14PM
http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/26/ps3-movie-downloads-coming-to-us-this-summer/
It's competition. People have always been doing it. I'm just curious to see what varieties they both try to have.
tmacairjordan87 @ Jun 26th 2008 8:15PM
we're talking about videogames here. Just about every feature on every console ever has copied from something else non video game related
Joel @ Jun 26th 2008 8:20PM
don't you get it yet that these companies feed off each other? Sony is working on a wiimote copy also, it is just not ms. ms put a harddrive in their system so did sony. nintendo used the first analog stick all the companies followed suit. They feed off one another, it pushes the industry foward.
tmacairjordan87 @ Jun 26th 2008 8:22PM
I know all of this already. I want to see the same bashing on them that I saw on Sony earlier this week and last week when everyone was laughing at them for copying all the time.
unboring @ Jun 26th 2008 8:35PM
exactly, and its the same people who gang up on sony who come in saying crap like
"Kudos to MS for adapting to the ever changing gaming environment." - Kevin
Microsoft should have just done a top down habbo hotel clone if they wanted their virtual world to look like cold diarrhea.
It will only make 360 look bad in comparison to PS3 when home looks awesome with tons of functionality and this abomination looks worse then maple story / generic flash mmo. Lets see some comparison screenshots game trailers. commmmeeee onnnnnnn.
cold diarrhea...
Joel @ Jun 26th 2008 8:40PM
see the thing is most 360 owners don't care for most of this crap that microsoft is doing. Nobody is overly excited hyping up the casual things that ms does. I mean jsut today sony announced that you can get your news and weather when you turn on your ps3. People were like "Wow that is the coolest thing ever." Now please tell me when reading the news and getting the weather is the coolest thing ever? Sony fans hype things that have been done by other systems while a majority of ms fans really don't care and just wants games to play.
