Peering into the abyss that is a collection of PowerPoint slides, we've concluded a couple of things. First, PS3 is hurtin' for games, with a mere 475 having been released in total at the outset of FY07. Second, PS3 is certainly selling a lot better. Here's how things look on whole.
PS3 worldwide sales for the second half of FY07 were 7.23 million, up 200% from the same period during the previous fiscal year. No doubt price drops and the release of a few desirable, exclusive titles helped there. PSP, by comparison, saw sales of 9.18 million during the same period, for an increase of 146% over FY09 2H. At the outset of FY07, there were 1,834 titles available for PSP total.
PlayStation Network has seen 9.8 million users register accounts since it launched, or roughly 45% of PS3's total owners. Hirai noted that PSN users worldwide have downloaded the data equivalent of 17 million single-layer DVDs – that's 86 petabytes.
With that, the part of our brain that deals with numbers has exploded.
