Ubisoft unveils Prince of Persia: The Fallen King for DS
As promised, Ubisoft has unveiled a portable companion piece to this holiday's new-gen Prince of Persia, dubbing the pint-sized platformer "Prince of Persia: The Fallen King." Featuring an independent storyline and "unique stylus controls" (natch), The Fallen King sees the agile -- and now adorable -- acrobat foiling a mean ol' corruption that has encroached on every corner of the kingdom. Presumably, you'll also help some sort of king to get up.
Joining the prince in his wall-running adventures is "mysterious new ally" and playable character, Magus. He'll (it'll?) apparently use magical powers to help you overcome all manner of devious traps and puzzles. With the aid of Ubisoft's Casablanca studio, this little prince will join his big brother on shelves just in time for Holiday 2008.

Games designed for next-gen consoles do not work on the DS. Period. I love my DS, but I wish they would stop doing this shit.
gir @ Jun 26th 2008 4:38PM
They're only doing it to make money. They're not doing it to please you.
MrXBob @ Jun 26th 2008 4:39PM
This game was not designed for 'next-gen' consoles. It was designed for the DS.
Chris @ Jun 26th 2008 4:40PM
I think Zelda was a pretty good transfer to the DS.
tmacairjordan87 @ Jun 26th 2008 4:41PM
Zelda's not next gen.
Chris @ Jun 26th 2008 6:01PM
You're not next-gen

I never asked them to please me - hell, I'll get plenty of pleasure from the 360 POP.
I just think that it's in bad taste to milk a decent franchise so voraciously.

Please please please be based on the motion picture!

Aww, he's cute. Can I keep him,can I, can I?

Sorry Timmy but your prince of persia got Aids and sadly it must die.
Here end his sad life with this shotgun.
Be a man Jimmy and kill chibi prince or what we used to call the prince of persia.

Too much Wonder Showzen for you! :P (I LOVE that show) ;__;
PojoMofo @ Jun 26th 2008 4:44PM
They should have called it "Prince of Persia: the Wind Waker"
Xoviet chiK @ Jun 26th 2008 4:54PM
Just in time for Godsmacks children's music album.
Looks alright so far. I loved the classic PoP games and the XBLA Remake, and other meticulously animated 2D side-scrolling platformers with an emphasis on realistic physics. I'm interested.

...And this is why I own a PSP. Maybe I like my games not having to be converted into cartoon-cute to even be considered for a platform.
Xoviet chiK @ Jun 26th 2008 5:03PM
Mega Man: Powered Up is easily my favorite PSP game, so gritty and in-your-face.
Mr.ESC @ Jun 26th 2008 5:07PM
I'm a PSP owner and I disagree.
Ds games are great but as a POP fan this is an insult. I hate what Ubisoft is doing; they are killing the original POP (Not the franchise) in order to bring a more wapanese Prince of Persia. Hell the Emo POP was weird but we learn to accept but this chibi POP is just plain bad.
I remember the first POP games: Plain hard with explicit deaths (F*ck even for a 2D game the deaths in POP were traumatic), all about skill and memorization (Unless you cheated).
F*ck ubisoft,f*ck them.Seriously why the couldn’t use AC engine for the new POP? why he had to be wapanese? In a second thought why he had to be Emo in POP:R?.
Bluebrake @ Jun 26th 2008 5:16PM
Tell me about it. I love the *idea* of the DS. I think it's a much more interesting platform than the PSP. But don't even try to defend Nintendo's platforms as "not kiddy" as long as this shit is still going on. This is practically a parody -- right up there with http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2007/11/5/the-littlest-hashshashin/
Exactly the same thing happens on the Wii: we get the dumbed-down, cutesy-filtered versions of what's released on the real consoles. I want to love Nintendo's platforms. They just make it very hard.

ViagraFiend @ Jun 26th 2008 5:30PM
lol! Mature by age, not by mind!
btw...theres only 4. Dementium is the only one that looks remotely good.
Dovi @ Jun 26th 2008 6:49PM
Only 4 in English.
Mr.ESC @ Jun 26th 2008 4:59PM
Seriously where is the POP games I grew up with? they were hard,no joke, but very satisfactory, this is just facepalmtastic.
I still remember playin POP in my Acer computer back when I was little and Ishar, what a great game.
Player1 @ Jun 26th 2008 5:04PM
God, first the had to ruin the whole style that POP finally had right, now they make it a cutesy cartoon guy? Nice pants and shoes. Does he have a genie lamp and ride a carpet too?

Prince of Persia 3D
Mr Khan @ Jun 26th 2008 5:05PM
Ubisoft + Nintendo. They're determined to make the core Nintendo fan hate them, they are
Sheppy (of the Fidlious Clan of Wong) @ Jun 26th 2008 5:09PM
Really?!? Me, the notorious Nintendo hater to many, I'm going to be the one who looks at this and thinks "Oh cool, must know more."
Frankly, not seeing a problem here. If they make the game 2D, stick to classic classic gameplay, I look forward to it. I want to know more about the gameplay but I would love a dungeon action game. Character design isn't TOOO abrasive either.
Mr.ESC @ Jun 26th 2008 5:23PM
I loved every POP game even emo prince issues didn’t stop me but these graphics don’t’ go with Prince of Persia at all. It feels like Ubisoft is copying some Japanese game or something killing Prince of Persia style. Sure changing the style every now and then is cool but when they copy other game style (*cough Legend of Zelda *cough) it loses part of itself.
You know isn't the graphics but the fact that knowing most Ubisoft DS games is either going to suck or be incredibly easy.
I mean “Megaman Powered!” up compensated the sugar overdose with a can of whoop ass and cheap deaths.
Anticrawl @ Jun 26th 2008 5:47PM
I just popped in to say.. Freakazoid!
Ludwig Kietzmann @ Jun 26th 2008 6:49PM
He turns into a Freakazoid, is strong and super quick
He drives the villains crazy, 'cos he's a lunatic!
I have to agree with Sheppy here -- I think this game looks like it could be pretty fun. And I *like* the cute art style. I'll have the console version to fall back on if I want something tougher.
(At least it's not developed by Gameloft.)
Levi @ Jun 26th 2008 9:51PM
Who the hell thinks you're a Nintendo hater?
seakae @ Jun 26th 2008 5:10PM
*shivers*
I often don't care about DS ports, but that main image of the Prince looks like friggin fan art.
Professor Lario @ Jun 26th 2008 5:19PM
Art direction is awful...
Lijik @ Jun 26th 2008 5:26PM
Ubisoft Casablanca last made the wonderful RRR DS port, and it looks like they're reusing that engine for this. I'm excited for it on gameplay alone, although the art of the palace being corrupted wasn't too shabby. The chibi prince is... odd. He's not full on japanese art rip-off and he's not full on in any other direction. He looks like he was designed about 12 people each with different art interests.
meist3r @ Jun 26th 2008 5:35PM
This is the reason why Nintendo will never lose their dreaded baby image. I love my Wii and I couldn't have had more fun with some of the games but this forced chibi style is really making me sick. The Assassins Creed spoof mentioned before is a funny but think for a moment what they would do to God of War (and I never even played that). The PSP gave players a mobile version of the game that apparently kicks some major butt no matter on what platform it is. By changing the main character you change the entire game.
My Sims is an insult to everyone that knows the impact The Sims had on "casual-gamers" (yuk, hate this term) and people that didn't even know they liked videogames. By turning everything into this mass compatible bullcrap is just awful. I fear the DS users are even more affected by this than anyone else because their platform always allows for some ridiculous hardware excuses.
In my opinion Ubisoft is walking a wicked path with some of their latest decisions but I don't really think anything will change for the better. As long as people keep buying these obscenities they will keep making them :/
Mr.ESC @ Jun 26th 2008 5:54PM
Again:
Ubisoft fault, your hate most be directed to ubisoft. Nintendo didn't make those games they just licensed them.
Is not Nintendo's fault they license those games, I mean they got a truck of money and they aren't made of stone.
tmacairjordan87 @ Jun 26th 2008 6:01PM
For the last time it is their fault because everything runs through them and they don't care enough to say "Uhhh..no". They WANT this shitty family friendly image and that's why 99% of wii/ds games are kiddy looking.
meist3r @ Jun 26th 2008 6:06PM
But that's one of these vicious circles and that makes me angry. When a game gets into making and they want to license to Nintendo someone at Big-N looks at that stuff. They should know that shedding their baby-gamer image is key to succeed in future generations. Right now the Wii has an advantage because the control scheme is really new. Everything else about the console (hardware) is worn out and half-assed. Then the Big-N product management guy goes "Hey look a new chibi style game based on something that could REALLY be successful, let's shell that out to kids that wanna feel good playing the little brother of what real consoles get to play". And then Ubisoft goes "hey, they want it. Let's make that game and then keep pushing into this direction since it seems to work.". Then some people actually buy this because they are bored out of their minds or have to ride trains for hours at hand. They figures look like people respond well, Nintendo gains profit, Ubisoft satisfies shareholders and we're stuck with shitty candy games that everybody seems to think are a brilliant idea. Except for the people that would "like to" buy some challenging titles for their mobile system but can't because there is only that hideous Pokémon crap around.
That pisses me off ... and I don't even own a DS.
Lijik @ Jun 26th 2008 6:30PM
Its been almost two years. Using the "The wii is only doing well because its control scheme is new" shtick doesn't work. The general public really does eat this watered down chibi art stle shit up, and they probably always will. Theres just no other excuse for Date Movie, Epic Movie, AND Meet The Spartans to all be the #1 movie in America at some point other than the masses being huge idiots.
Trust me, parents will look at this and buy it for their tykes in droves. "This looks just like that show little Timmy watches! He'll probably like it!"

Levi @ Jun 26th 2008 9:57PM
If some of you tards would only look past the "cutesy" graphics of DS games, you'd find plenty of epic games on the system. I just picked up Etrian Odyssey II today, and I swear I saw "Raping the Player" as one of the game features listed on the back of the box.
Geist @ Jun 26th 2008 10:12PM
But omg it's anime cutesy it can't be a hardcore game! Just because it's probably the toughest RPG game I've ever played doesn't mean it's hardcore! It's not bloody enough! Bitch bitch bitch bitch etc.
Superstar90 @ Jun 26th 2008 11:15PM
IDC about the art style, but please don't use the AC:DS engine, please! That game was a brown mess, full of flaws and disgustingly gross graphics.
I wish they hadn't made him SO chibi. I mean Link from Wind Waker is a child, but he has an artistic look to him, this is just stupid.
Some Guy @ Jun 27th 2008 12:02AM
is this Prince of Persia or Prince of England
Nazz @ Jun 27th 2008 1:24AM
must be a typo in the story, surely its "Prince of Persia: The Fallen Kingz"
