As of right now, homebrewers have the upper hand against Nintendo, and it is possible to run whatever you feel like running on the Wii you own -- even on a recently updated Wii. Now would be a good time to go try some of the stuff that people have come up with. But maybe you feel like you don't know where to start, or don't have whatever technical skills are required to make Wii Quake happen.
Much like we did on DS Fanboy for homebrew on that system, WiiHD has created a step-by-step guide to Wii homebrew, starting with the Twilight Hack. Follow these instructions, and you'll have the Homebrew Channel, ready and waiting to run your programs. If following three pages of instructions is too much for your fast-paced lifestyle, they've even put together a Starter Kit containing all the software you'll need, including the Twilight Hack and Homebrew Channel files, Quake, and an Amstrad emulator with public-domain games.

Does this void your warranty with Nintendo at all? Does it brick your wii? Will Nintendo do anything against you if you do this?
These are the fears I have about doing it.

1) No.

It's just a software mod, so you aren't opening anything up and modding the system. It's all good.

Why worry about the warranty when it only lasts a year or so?? Get Homebrew Channel via Twilight Hack and Homebrew browser via the boot.elf method.
Any worries reformat the memory or make a back SD card then clear the system.

I also have fears. Has anyone had major issues trying to do this? If it was easy enough to reset your Wii I would try it, but unfortunately Nintendo didn't include a Wii OS disc.

It's incredibly easy. Its just a softmod, and if you do everything right, you won't brick your console. You always want to be very careful with homebrew, but don't let that deter you from doing it. It's a lot of fun and, like the Wii, is very easy.

If my Wii is modded, do I still have to go through the same steps to put homebrew on it?
All the instructions assume not and whilst I'm happy to go through all the steps - if there is a quicker way, I might as well do that.

With a modchipped wii, you can install the HBC without using the twilight hack, but only if you haven't yet updated to system menu 3.3. With the new system menu, trucha-signed HBC install discs wouldn't work, because Nintendo fixed the bug that allowed for trucha signing with the latest update.
